I believe we are all going to see the first triple crown winner since Yaz last did it in 1967. Looking at the competition in BA/HRS/RBI'S,  Obviously, Albert needs to be consistent throughout the season and hope Ryan Howard doesn't go on a rampage like he did last season. Howard is the only player right now, stopping Albert from winning the triple crown.

Pujols is a free agent after this year.  Wouldn't he be great as our 1b next year?

This is inaccurate.

Pujols' contract goes through 2010, with a club option for 2011.

My guess is that our first baseman next year will be Nick Johnson; both he (31 next year) and Delgado (38 next year) are free agents.

I don't believe that Johnson will be the Mets 1st baseman in 2010 and here's why: 1. that would mean that they have given up on Murphy and I don't believe that's true. He is learning 1st base on the job, which is difficult. With a full season, winter ball and spring training; he should be much better defensively and as a hitter, he will improve. 2. If Nick Johnson is labeled a Type A Free agent, there is no way the Mets will forfeit 2 draft picks for him. (If he's Type B free agent, the Mets wouldn't surrender a pick, but the Nationals would get a supplemental pick through the league). 3. History of injuries will absolutely be a factor and a concern in regards to signing him.

One final note in regards to Murphy, despite his struggles this season offensively and defensively, he still has value and the Mets know that. If the right deal came along, they would trade him. Only a handful of players on this team are untouchables and Murphy is not one of them.

I don't see any inaccuracy here. Afan mentioned Pujols is a free agent at the end of the year and said he would love to see him as a met. Not a prediction but a wish. I agree with him, I would love to see him as a Met. It probably will not happen because I see him as loyal to the Cards and he probably resigns there. But as a Mets fan Afan and I can dream can't we!!

Westcoast, I believe the inaccuracy that 6986andnow 09 was pointing out was the fact that Pujols will not be a free agent after the 2009 season, but rather the 2010 season with an option for 2011; which is correct.  I'm sure he would love to have Pujols in a Mets uniform like the rest of us would.

Okay, Crunch thanks for making that clear.

Correct; we won't have the opportunity to get him.  Sure would be nice, though.

I am kind of hoping that Wright can keep up on his current approach at the plate and be the first Met to lead the league in BA and be a spoiler to Pujols Triple Crown.

Me too.  Beltran is right there also.

looking at those stats of Pujols, he has 28 hrs and only 29 strikeouts!!!!!he is on pace to hit over 50hrs this season, if he can manage to hit over 50 hrs and strikeout less than 50 times. He will be only second player and the first since johnny mize to do this. As a Mets fan, I would like to see either Wright or Beltran win the batting title, however; I have a gut feeling that Pujols is going to win the triple crown.

WE MAY FIND OUT THAT ALBERT IS ALSO ON THE JUICE. HE IS A TREMENDOUS ATHLETE AND IT APPEARS THE TORID PACE HE IS ON BRINGS UP THE POTENTIAL STERIOD ISSUE. I KNOW I AM SPECULATING BUT I AM SHOCKED NOBODY HAS MENTIONED HIS NAME AS A STERIOD CANDIDATE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM IN A METS UNIFORM BUT IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN WITH THE IDIOTS WE HAVE RUNNING THIS ORGANIZATION. I WAS EXCITED WHEN WE GOT SANTANA AND THOUGHT OF CHAMPIONSHIPS. ONLY THE METS COULD HAVE ALL THESE ISSUES WITH THE INJURIES,DROPPED BALLS, OVER RUNNING BASES ETC.

I truely hope that Pujols is not implicated and or associated with steriods. That would be only blacken the eye of baseball even more.
