Well, when a Manager puts a scrub like Argenis Reyes in the leadoff position in his lineup, ya know things have hit rock bottom.

Omar mulling a deal, huh? Why, is a rival GM interested in any of the prized gems in the system? I would prefer to hear that Jeffy has mulled and is about to make the decision to dump Minaya and Jerry. Put Manuel out of his misery already. Neither Minaya or Manuel have been winners anywhere so why expect them to turn this thing around even if all injured players came back tomorrow. Newsday headline tomorrow: Los Metsos Say Adios to Omar & Jerry.

While I am not a big fan of Jerry Manuel, fact is he was Manager of the Year in 2000 when he guided the White Sox to an AL best 95-67 record.

Having Argenis Reyes playing SS was just to give Cora a day off. However; batting him leadoff with Castillo available was stupid.

I am very impressed with that stat but like Willie, JM is the wrong guy at the wrong place at the wrong time. Did Jerry get a ring in 2000? Sorry West Coast but they need to clean house from the choking loser image starting with the coaching staff which should have been done at the end of last season. Thanks Jerry but Caio Jerry thanks to Omar.  Believe me, if Omar stays and Jerry stays, I only hope that some good luck starts heading in the Mets direction. Maybe starting with some trades.

According to Peter Gammons of ESPN; he stated that the Mets have 5 to 6 highly touted prospects that should not be dealt. He didn't mention their names, but most of us can probably figure out who they are. One foot note: Milledge couldn't succeed with the Nationals, where he was given the CF position and blew it. Now the Pirates traded for him and will move him to a corner outfield position, which is better suited for him. However; sooner or later he will fail there as well. Milledge is nothing more than a role player at best.

NOT EVEN SANTANA COULD GET A WIN. 6 LOSSES IN A ROW AND COUNTING. THE MELTDOWN IS IN FULL SWING. THEY MAY NOT WIN A GAME ON THIS ROADTRIP. WHAT A JOKE AS OMAR SITS ON THE SIDELINES AND WAITS. CAN ANYBODY SAY MATT HOLIDAY!WHAT THE HELL IS OMAR WAITING FOR. PULL THE DAMN TRIGGER AND DO SOMETHING.THEY WILL LOSE OUT ON HOLIDAY AS THE REDS ARE VERY INTERESTED IN HIM.

to acquire Holiday, the Mets would have to give up 2 of their top prospects in the package, and that's not going to happen for a guy (holiday) who will only be with the team until the end of the season. You don't trade away 2 of your top prospects for a rental player. Fernando Martinez would be one of them and most likely a pitcher (perhaps Holt). You may not care if we trade away Martinez at this moment, but believe me, in 2 to 3 years when he is 22/23 years old; you're going to wish you didn't. According to ESPN Peter Gammons, the Mets can get Holiday right now if they include Martinez in the deal. He agrees with the Mets for not pulling the string on the trade. As I mentioned several times, Omar can't panic and make a foolish trade (top prospects) just to make the media and fans happy. I understand your frustrations, but you can't panic and start trading away our young stars for players who are overpriced and will only be rentals. That's not sound business and it will only set back this team even further.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that with all the injuries we have and key players out any move now is a panic move (see Kazmir for Zambrano as a reminder of what one looks like) and I would hate to see Omar do that. I can see other GM holding a gun to his head, they are like sharks smelling blood for Pete's sake. Plus one move probably does not get us to the play-offs if we do not get some of these injured players back first. Do you want to mortgage the future and still not make the play-offs? The second thing is Holiday's number outside of Coor's Field drop of drastically even if you adjust the numbers for the difference in home vs away at-bats.

2006-2008 splits adjusted for at-bats

Home : 62 HR 219 RBI .326 BA

Away:  49 HR 179 RBI .296 (He had 1.49 more at bats at home vs road, so I took his three year stats on the road and multiplied by 1.49)

Look at his stats this year, they are way down from previous years I think proving my point. While he is a good player I do not think he is the saviour some people think he would be.

This series with Philly is crucial. Lets see how motivated they get to play hard against the defending World Champs who as we all know---were called pansies or chokers by Coley & Jimbo Rollins. Tonite can send a message not only to Philly but to Atlanta and Florida as well. Inhuries aside, the Mets team was insulted. Hopefully, Livian can pitch a gem. I am feeling sweep this weekend by the Mets but I know, one game at a time. Payback time that is. GO METS!

JUST PATHETIC. SO MUCH FOR FEELING GOOD VIBES FROM LIVIAN. LIVIAN IS DOING HIS TOM GLAVINE MELTDOWN AS I JUST TOOK A PEEK ON MLB.COM. IT'S A NIGHTMARE. UNREAL.

We just blew it right now with this week and it seems it going to get worst with the Dodgers and Reds in town. It seems any team can beat us up right now and that is not looking good.  We won't be getting Beltran or Reyes back till after the all-star break and the issue with that is are they going to be the same players that we seen. There is 3 positions that need to be upgraded and we have to start with the most recent one is a left field bat.  The 2nd position is a starting pitcher and the last is a real 2ndbase man. If you saw the series this week with the phills you saw how castillo did another error with a popup. We need to get someone else that knows how to play this position well.

PhillieFanatic

What did I tell you people earlier in the year?  Didn't I tell you to just hang it up and go home?  Wasn't I right?  Of course I was, because we're a real team.  We swept you.

And now Pedro will come and pitch for us and throw a perfect game against you guys.  You choked again.  Although I give you credit for choking earlier in the year.

YOU ARE THE REAL LOSER! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING ON THIS WEBSITE? PHILLIES PITCHING IS A JOKE AND WILL CATCH UP TO THEM. YOU TAKE AWAY HOWARD, ROLLINS AND IBANEZ AND SEE WHERE YOU WOULD BE. TAKE AWAY DOROTHY HAMELS AND BLANTON FROM THE STARTING ROTATION AND YOU ARE IN DEEP YOU KNOW WHAT. INJURIES ARE PART OF THE GAME BUT THIS YEAR HAS BEEN BRUTAL. I BLAME MANAGEMENT FOR DOING NOTHING AT THIS POINT. YOU PLAYED A B LINEUP AT BEAST THIS WEEKEND. PHILS GOT SWEPT BY ATLANTA AND HAD THEIR COMPLETE ROSTER MINUS IBANEZ.
PhillieFanatic

I'm here to show you that its obvious to everyone (except you mess fans) that the mess are losers.

We just routed a team 22 to 1.  A team that has a better record than you.  We are a real team with real players that want to play.

Gotta love watching the mess fallllllllllllllllllllllling and then go splat.

Can't wait for them to displace the Nationals as the 5th place team.

Just take a breath and calm down there Phillie Boy. Injuries have hurt us so don't get too psyched up about this sweep. Still a half season to go. Although you seem to goof on the Mets as much as Mets fans dislike the Phils, I think you should definitely hold off on ordering your 2009 Championship champagne.

HoJo20

Phillie boy if you read into the rumors report you got it all wrong because Pedro is not going to sign with your team he wants to head out west and compete there so i assume your dream is out the window. The 2 point is that you actually have a strange stadium that my little 8 month old son can hit a ball out of there its just like Yankee stadium, hit it and its gone. So lets take that for granted that your stadium is just a hitters park. The 3rd  point is that your team is going to fall as well due to that your closer still has a hard time pitching you lost your left fielder and rollins really is not a consistance player. The season is still not over yet and there is 81 games that can actually put any team in danger.

It is apparent that we the fans, on this site, do not have any answers for Minaya on how to improve the team for the 2nd half. Even worse, I am not so sure that Omar has any clue how to improve this team other than bringing in Ruben Sierra or Julio Franco or maybe extend Castillo's ludicrous contract. Sad, very sad state of the Mets.

On the bright spot, there are 82 games in which these guys have the opportunity to step up and play the game hard. Church, Schneider, Murphy, Evans with the help of Wright, Sheff and Cora. The pitching staff will be better when the offense decides to score some runs and not make mediocre pitchers look loke Jim Bunning. The Phils have allowed Atlanta, the Mets and Florida to hang around which means that Philly ain't as good or Lidge lucky as they were last season. Yeah, it is a little downer that Philly swept the Mets in thewir building where they aren't indestructible. Whichever team wins the East will need the help of other clubs beating the other teams in the East. That has been Baseball forever. Hopefully the Reds can rebound from that rout last night

and Pelf can pitch well and get some defensive and offensive help. I can't believe that it could get any worse for the Mets. It can only get better. Maybe it is worth trading for a bopper like Matty H

and attempt to sign him. Would Singleton or Otis have emerged as stars as members of the Mets?

Melvin Mora also? Even if F-Mart blossoms into a star in 3-4 years with another team like the A's he wouldn't be doing it in NY. In 5 years, they can resign F-Mart as a FA. Farfetched but nothing is written in stone in baseball any longer. Minaya and the owners have to be held responsible and I feel that they owe it to the fans especially with a new ballpark to go for it this season. Who does Peter Gammons love so much? Ike Davis?  Wilmer Flores? Toby Stoner? Josh Thole? The Mets can always sign a FA to be what F-Mart becomes--if he becomes. Put Holliday in right, Carlos B in center and Church if he isn't traded in right. Then, they can afford to be more patient with Murphy and Evans as Wagner and Delgado come off the books. And they just have to bite the bullet and eat Castillo's contract and sign Orlando Hudson for next season. They blew it by not signing O-Dog this year because of Luis the Great. They will get a 2nd chance next year.

PhillieFanatic

The easiest way to fix your team is to just stop playing.  Put down the gloves and bats and go home.  Your season is over and you'll never win another championship.
