GoGiants!!!

Now that we have started the second half with a loss, it doesn't seem to be any different from the first half.  The injured players are not coming back anytime soon and there doesn't seem to be any help on the horizon.  I guess we will have to wait until the end of the season and hope that management makes some moves.  The first two moves, as I have said before, should be M&M.  Once we get rid of Minaya, who put this underachieving team together, then we can get rid of Manuel.  Manuel is the wrong type of manager for this team and NYC.  It is too bad that Gary Carter screwed up his chance to work his way through the system and eventually become manager of the Mets.  Gary's great knowledge of baseball and his charisma would be perfect for the Mets.  Lets hope that the Mets don't embarass themselves for the remainder of the season, and let's look forward to 2010.

I agree with you regarding Carter's charisma and baseball smarts. I don't think that he blew it with this organization either. When Omar gets the boot, I like Carter being that he is a former Met hero. Outside the organization, I like Larry Bowa. Something I never understood. Maybe he was never offered the job or just didn't want it but why did Jerry Grote never become a Pitching Coach? He played for Hodges and Berra and caught Seaver, Ryan, Kooz and Tug. Talk about a brilliant basemall man. I would love to see Grote offered the Pitching Coach position. Don't know if he'd leave San Antonio but talk about adding a true Mets hero to the dugout. I also wonder if Piazza would want to be a Hitting Coach? If they have lousy players, at least they'd have coaches with Mets ties.

Guys i hate to say it but the phillie fan that was always trying to say his team is better actually is right this time. I think this team is just done due to another injured player and now we don't know if Gary S. will be in the lineup any sooner putting more pressure on our bench players. For a team that just opened a new ballpark it seems that the 06-07 Mets are back to their ways again and not producing the way they kept saying this is our year. I know we have plenty of injuries and that should not be an excuse due to we have a farm system that is suppose to protect us from these injuries. Sorry guys i forgot we are talking about the Mets and Omar just traded almost all the decent prospects we had. I wish we had the Giants or Tampa Bay's farm system and we might be able to save this season again. But i think its time to put the white flag up and start wearing brown bags over our heads and wait for another 10 years to win a world series.

In the old days of baseball, before free agency; the farm system for every major league team was their blood line to success and stability for the future of the organization. Not to minimize the farm system currently in baseball, but with free agency; the prospect of developing a winning team becomes less dependent on the farm system. Again, please don't misunderstand me, I believe building a strong farm system is still an important element to ensuring a successful franchise. However; if managed correctly, an organization can develop a farm system and still feed off free agency to build a strong team. The Yankees and Boston are a great examples of this from both sides of this; in the 80's the Yankees would focus too much on free agents and big names and use their farm system as a pipe line for established players. Now the Yankees in the past 15+years have finally seen the light and have balanced that formula correctly. They have been able to acquire quality free agents and/or trade for them, while still developing players such as: Bernie Williams, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Rivera, Cano, Hughes, Chamberlain, Petitte, Wang just to name a few. My point here is that the Mets need to take a page from the Yankees and Bostons organization and learn to balance this formula, which will allow them to pursue Free Agents and still develop a farm system so it will produce quality players for years to come. No one said it will be easy, but as the Yankees and Boston have shown, it can be done. This will be the test for Omar and the Mets to focus on and to ensure a franchise that will be competitive for many years to come.

I could not have said it better myself.  The only point I disagree with is your final sentence.  You indicate that the Mets and Omar should take an example from the Yankees and the Red sox.  I totally agree with that statement except I would hope that Omar would be gone and a new GM would be in place.  Omar is not going to change his ways.  We cannot blame him for the injuries but we can certainly can blame him for the team he put together and the way he has decimated the Mets farm system.

OMAR "THE TENT MAKER"  MINAYA "THE LIAR" NOT MUCH TO BE SAID THAT HASN'T ALREADY BEEN SAID. THE METS SHOULD REFUND THE FANS THEIR MONEY FOR THE LAST TWO MONTHS. NOBODY SHOULD BE PAYING THOSE PRICES TO WATCH THIS GARBAGE. ORGANIZATION NEEDS A TOTAL FACELIFT AND IT STARTS AT THE TOP. WHAT A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS!
