So despite all these experts telling us Wang isn’t an ACE (including our own brass)  there is nothing wrong with the Taiwanese Iceman his stuff will be good if not great and he’ll get his 20 wins easily (with this offense? How could you not see that? They only scored 968 runs last season)  And he might even get more SO than last year when he had a horrible start (I really feel sorry for his 19 wins  . . . .  pleeeese) a true CY Young candidate in his own right. Regardless of how he starts this year he’ll be a 20 plus game winner. You can quote me on that. Are you listening Cashman? You should. Wang and this team are for real.

But we still need Freddy Garcia or similar for the month of August due to the NUMBER OF INNINGS PITCHED by the young studs by then.

SIMPLE MATH REALLY.

The pen solution won’t do without the extra experienced starter REALLY. Hank just said that money is no object REALLY.

Although the team and its colors come first let’s welcome the dawning of the Joe Girardi Era; one we feel will be a very fruitful and productive one.
Bruce4Real

Gone are the butterflies. Yanks ruled on a very tight game over a powerful Toronto team. Melky held court in CF and then he just willed a long ball over the right side of the fence immediately thereafter. Alex picked up where he left off last season. Wang although a bit shaky held his own against mighty Halladay and gave way to the stoppers Joba & Rivera who matter-of-factly closed the opening act of the season.

Chalk one team win for the Yankees; 102 more to go.One win for the Taiwanese Jewel; 20 more to go.

Nice ‘N Easy guys one game at a time.

Bruce4Real

The Jays have no problems with Joba over-celebrating when he delivers the goods (has he delivered the goods yet?). They caution however than things could easily go the other way.

Says the BIG HURT: “There will be days when it doesn’t work out that well and it will go the other way.”  “Baseball’s very humbling.”

Amen to that Frank.  Amen to that.

Has there been any studies done on the effects that hot-dogging may have on the opponent the next time they face the culprit team?  I think we need to run that one by Bill James the respected guru. I can only go by what the Mets’ official hot dog did last season on their last tilt that infuriated the Marlins and caused the Mets to miss their post season appearance.

According to my lowly standards hot dogging is not only acceptable but encouraged right after the last out of the last victory clinching the WS championship. Anything else falls right under FERDINAND’s alley. That’s a Kodak moment we can do without.

For the life of me I cannot picture Leyland saying to his pitchers:  “I want you to remember that and copy it exactly.”

Bruce4Real

Oh about that game last night. There will be times when just one player won’t be able to carry the team all by himself. Turn the page; a team Loss, just one of the 59 loses we had budgeted for this season. Now shoot for the tilt, that’s how we get to the post season . . . right?

Just a reminder to Jason: the only thing to fear while at first base is fear itself. It’s that bat that needs a wakeup call (at your earliest convenience).

Damon: just because the team left you stranded at third base after that beautiful triple it doesn’t mean we should stop trying to get on base.

When Cano said he was going to be more disciplined at the plate did that include also the ninth inning?

Mussina picked it up where he left off last season; letting the umps affect his pitching that is.

Bruce4Real

Let’s speak our mind on the Joba affair since it seems to have touched some nerve with Yankees fans and haters alike.

I can see how some people might have wanted it to just become a stealth topic but it won’t so here we go and address it just one more time.

It seems that if you watch Italian Serie A professional soccer  you’ll find the same type of celebration when their prima donnas stars score a goal and it’s called “the Italian salute” and basically it means “right up your - - - blank - -“

The reason we had tried to hold our tongue in check is that every time we are about to say something here comes Joba’s father on his wheelchair telling anybody within earshot about how humble and appreciative of the fact he’s wearing the uniform Joba is. But the question is Did Joba get the memo?

It doesn’t look like it and this might be turning into a daily episode of “Joba this is your life” when the guy hasn’t WON CRAP FOR US YET. I repeat Joba hasn’t won crap for us yet. I remember how humble he was when he was overwhelmed by the midges in Cleveland. It didn’t last very long though.

A strange and no so memorable night game. Hughes pitched a beautiful game and so did McGowan and we were heading for a lost series at home but something happened along the way; the point is we won.  An ugly win but we’ll take it for all those beautiful games we will lose sooner or later.

We didn’t score more runs but not for lack of opportunities Alex had his chances but he forgot the MOMENT. Just put the frigging ball in play let your ability do the rest. You can’t be perfect at the plate I know, nobody can so turn the page tomorrow will be another day.

The beauty of this game is we took advantage of Toronto’s mistakes and that’s what great teams do, there will be other nights like this one but provided you react the same way there will be other ugly wins like this one and we’re not going to send them back. They’re keepers.

Bruce4Real

Damon and Abreu showed some fight in them; Joba (sans pirouettes) and Mo came and went doing their thing coolly and professionally and the day (night?) was won.

Second team win 101 to go.  Let’s not feel sorry for Toronto they have a solid team and they might even get better but that should not be our concern, we’re playing to win at home or abroad (literally).

Hughes not only pitched well but the frigging umpire was changing the rules he demanded Hughes throw 4 strikes per batter instead of three. Is that something that will be implemented in the future or are these umpires trying to fix games? Hey don’t look at me like that it happened in the NBA it has also happened in England in the Premier League and those guys were mere human beings and so are these guys. That’s just a thought maybe the investigative unit of MLB has free time in their hands.

Anyways, chalk another win and let’s get set for another series. Tomorrow will be a different game. Trust your stuff.  Score early; score often, that’s all.

As a footnote Toronto pitchers hit two of our players: Jeter and Jason but there is no way those were intentional hits.

Bruce4Real

The doormats turned the tables on the Yanks. As the haters say a day that will live in infamy until  . . . .  we win the next game stupid.

It wasn’t pretty. The stump said the skunk stunk but the wise skunk said: the Yankees stunk and he was right, from Kennedy to Farnsworth and from Posada to Giambi and everybody else in between. And to make matters worse Girardi forgot to get his flu shots, well nobody is perfect.

We should get a second opinion on that study that says Giambi is a better hitter when he plays first base.

There’ll be times when you’ll have to screw memories like these in a NY minute and come back and play much better the next time. Easier said than done but much better the other way around. Do you think you have it in you? Then comeback and beat these doormats and even the score.

Bruce4Real

How did I know we were going to lose this game? The sux were losing to the Jays and the Yankees have NEVER in the last 14 years taken advantage of such happenstance. In addition to another reliever we’ll need a genetic engineer to alter these guys’ chromosomes.

Best thing to do is have a good night sleep, wear a mask when near Girardi and re-FOCUS, the paper says you’re better than these guys so what are you waiting for? And cut the bull about these guys having good pitching!! Who gives a care? We want you to beat them in future games starting next one and move on. Do you have it in you? Where are the leaders on this team? We don’t feel the love guys. Not yet anyway.

Bruce4Real

Whatever happened to “the games that need to be won should be won”?
Bruce4Real

Great news the sux have lost two games in a row (as they were supposed to). The bad news is the 2008 Yankees were not able to take advantage of this fact. The team is in one of those slumps that affect those teams north of the 200 Mil. payroll mark.

Girardi did the right thing after falling sick; the last thing we want is for the team to get this “team flu” let’s hope the sux continue to cooperate and lose.

These have been team loses and all the spin in the world won’t convince us that these loses aren’t important.

Bruce4Real

We’re either about to lose our first series against the doormats of the league or we’re about to show our mettle (great buzz word in the 2007 season) and start kicking some a$$. Whatever happened to “not at home” nor “not on my watch”?

Kennedy wants another chance ASAP he says. The question is how many more games do you want to lose? Like everybody has said the young studs are untested (we knew that beforehand) so the operative word coming down from the Yankees Gods is patience. Does that apply to Posada, Giambi, Cano, etc? I guess we’ll get the memo soon.

That rain dance from the eighth inning on Tuesday’s game seems now like months away.

Bruce4Real

No discipline at the plate, not throwing first pitch for strikes or strikes at all for that matter. When the team is drowning every guilty party likes to describe the water and recite what he did wrong does that make it any better or less painful? Think again.

Where are the leaders on this team? The Cones, Tinos, Hays, Fielders, Justices, Strawberrys, Boggs from other teams?

So far only two of the crown jewels have turned out to be legit with one fugazy. Will that be the true count we’ll get from the young studs?

Bruce4Real

It’s early in the season (but how many seasons we have said the same thing?) and again the operative word is P-A-T-I-E-NC-E. So patience it is.

What worries me is that these loses took place at home. Could this team turn out to be a Juggernaut on the road? Do pigs fly?

Let’s wait for Girardi to get better and then their buddy pass will be over. Mettle anybody?
Bruce4Real

Detroit has started 0-5 and Foston has lost 3 games so far.

And we’re stuck with  . . . .  P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E.

Patience it is.

Bruce4Real

Could it be that this is not Jeter’s team, nor Alex’ nor Joba’s but Melky’s?

Think about it.

M-E-L-K-Y WHERE ARE THOU?

Bruce4Real

The good thing about the Yankees is that despite the fact that Posada and Giambi are slightly hurt everybody else is healthy (except Girardi of course but he’ll be fine soon we hope), so that’s the silver lining of the current situation, not quite a predicament yet.

Let’s start seeing the ball guys and let it travel farther. Let’s string some hits together one to nine; it’s a team game, cover each other’s back. Eyes on the ball at all times and don’t rush plays  . . .  re-focus and stay focused. The name of the game is execution you know that. We’ll be okay we know that. We have over 155 games to tweak what needs to be fixed in order to be successful this season.  One game at a time.

Bruce4Real

Wang so immutably cool, Matsui as graceful as his swing.

Joba’s automatically lethal.

Fluid poetry  . . . .  in Da Bronx.
