And so it was that Rassner with the help from Moeller had a fine game and got the win supported by our offense that has begun to come out of hibernation at the right time lead by a great day at the plate by the captain. Back to back dingers by Melky and Cano not bad.

It was also very nice as it has been for a few games to see Matsui, Damon and Ensberg protecting the plate with two strikes on. Way to go guys.

The relief corps did another great job and we got the win, a fine day at the office.

Bruce4Real

How about running out of patience with Kennedy? He took it in the chin sort of “I waz robbed.”  Sorry that’s baseball you don’t win you don’t play despite the fact that you thought you had arrived. No results no spot in the rotation. You came greatly recommended but you have shown nothing and I was kind of surprised that the Yankees were not yielding to the tabloids the Tampa brass always does but you had  against you the fact that first you and Hughes have practically not shown results which we sort of knew it was going to happen but then the sux stopped playing top baseball and that sort of opened a window of opportunity and that means a lot more than the mere hope that you may change your mind and really start trying to attack the hitters with the repertoire that preceded you but no thanks you haven’t won anything for us and that’s the bottom line go back to triple A and polish your soul and find the hunger and mental toughness you’ll need up in the Bronx and sharpen your tools and refine your ability to get men out.

You and Hughes play the “I know I belong here” type of game well but words mean nothing; wins, strikeouts and games pitched effectively mean a lot more. Hank tried to hold his side of the bargain but it was a losing proposition and reality dictated you be cut and be sent back to where you currently belong. That’s just business; nothing personal.

Bruce4Real

Great point about Yankee rookies “reddevil76”. You have always been a very decent Mets fan and I tip my hat to you. Just in case I never said it before on the other forum. You do honor your fandom with decent, intelligent, fair, impartial and civil comments  . . . . .  Sir.
Bruce4Real

Listen to these tabloids: Joba’s meltdown. Get real. So he’s human, good for him he got that one out of the way. For someone who really represents the future of the Yankees he should get deep in thought about the consequences of his actions and then . . . . . go have a gigantic ice cream and turn the page.

Today will be a different day and when needed he’ll be as lethal as before  . . . . .   NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER maybe a bit more careful but better for the experience. No need to lose any sleep I know I won’t.

Tidalwave22

how about those red sox!!! 1st again, u guys can't compete if your bullpen keeps blowing games!!!
Bruce4Real

Two losses in a row let’s not make it three. Another great game by Wang wasted but the sux loss makes it less terrible that it was . . . therefore . . .  turn another page and come to the stadium ready to compete from 1 to 9.

We didn’t adjust our game to this hurler from Cleveland he threw fastballs the entire night. Wake up guys.

The sux are giving you some breaks let’s take advantage of them.

I forgot to mention that great throw from Molina to Cano on the previous game. Great stuff, lights out.

Bruce4Real

A well pitched game Moose. Well on your way to the 260 mark. Don’t despair Molina stuff happens but Damon Canon and Betermit picked you and Abreu up and this is a team sport so every bit of help counts. Is it my imagination or the Indians know something about Abreu and they keep sending those rockets his way?  Giambi got his dinger too that can only be a cool sign.

But what matters is the win and we got it a great team effort I’ve already forgotten about those two previous losses (a great fan goes: What losses?)  . . . . and Joba was electric (literally)  screw those fans like me who picked on you for previous celebrations, go on and celebrate . . . . . the Big Hurt didn’t mind why should we or anybody else? Keep piling up those great innings.

So  . . . . . .  On we go to the next game guys  . . . . . .  Keep it up.

Bruce4Real

A question for the powers that be.

Who says Ohlendorf can’t be a future starter? He’s smart (ability to learn and adjust on the fly) he has VERY decent stuff and being smart he can optimize the use of this stuff with the right battery mate. Too bad the mega-millionaire catcher we have loves to dissect his pitchers (specially young ones) in the media when they have a bad game (if you ask me one of the reasons why our young and not so young pitchers don’t pan out) frigging useless spin, he can’t put a soc inside that mouth of his, take a page or two from Varitek stupid).

I’ve read that before (about Ohlendorf being a starter) from other Yankee fans comments whose opinions I care about and to me it makes perfect sense specially now that the fugazies are right on limbo. It will take patience of course but that’s what we’re all about this year and Oh yeah screw the tabloids wanting us to dump our future.

Bruce4Real

T. Jones was all over the place and you guys let him off the hook.

Same with Rogers (granted he’s using better pine tar the S.C invisible type but we know he’s still cheating) but  SOME MORE DISCIPLINE AT THE PLATE AND THAT GAME COULD HAVE BEEN WON. Those guys up in Boston keep trying to help us catch them what a bunch of guys!

Moeller remember one stolen base is better than one stolen base and a throw to CF   . . . . . .  Always.

We’re confident that the bats will pick it up where they left off last night which almost did the job. A game of inches guys. Make those darn pitchers throw strikes.

On Igawa? If you don’t have anything nice to say better left it unsaid. The only thing you could say is that he and Ian Kennedy will be unstoppable  this year  . . . . .  in triple A.

Let’s see who the brain trust brings this time up from PA. Think hard guys you’re not making it easy on yourselves.  Meantime  . . . . . .  Boston keeps losing.

Bruce4Real

Maybe Kennedy should stop wearing stirrups he looks shorter and hitters don’t have much respect for below average height pitchers. You may laugh but I’ve been right about a ton of seemingly idiotic stuff.

Bruce4Real

Another fine article in the NY Times on the USA Softball team as well as some great college softball players across the nation.

Jessica Mendoza and Andrea Duran could teach our own Alex and any other lethal hitter in the Majors a thing or twenty about hitting consistently and in the clutch almost every time. Pound for pound they are far better than Alex, Manny and any other professional baseball hitter and have far more class.

Monica Abbott, Cat Osterman, or Jenny Finch or any other pitcher in the US National team could run rings around any pitcher in the Majors including Beckett or Joba or Santana or Halladay.

Bruce4Real

A pitcher under the radar in college softball could be seen playing for Long Beach State: Brooke Turner whose sister was a phenom (Michelle Turner) who dominated her games while at UCLA and Long Beach State and simply got so bored with the competition that she got out of the game in her senior year. Still on the West coast you’ll find Christina Ross dominating the Mountain West conference for her team San Diego State University.

Two great pitchers can be seen in Texas playing for the Texas A&M Aggies: Megan Gibson and Amanda Scarborough who have in them a bit of Babe Ruth since both are not only excellent pitchers but awesome hitters with power. In the south Pitching for the Number one team in the Nation Florida Gators you have Stacey Nelson 39Wins 2 Losses  E.R.A. 0.78 in 41 games.

Closer to home you have Hofstra University’s Junior Kayleigh Lotti. Best pitcher in the conference for two years running and Long Island University’s own prime time hurlers Blaire Porter (Northeast Conference pitcher of the year for 2008) and Jeny Giles (Northeast Conference Pitcher of the year for 2006 and 2007) these last two pitchers can be seen this weekend playing for the championship of their conference at long Island University Softball field in their Brooklyn campus. What a treat!

Bruce4Real

Any of those pitchers mentioned above could make our young studs look terribly human by comparison and incredibly flawed. If they were male athletes (they would long be drafted by ML teams) and the softball world would be deprived of the sheer enjoyment of watching these great athletes compete because they would be established successful starters in their profession with immaculate records.

Do yourself a favor and try to catch any of those games this weekend and polish your soul in the process.

Bruce4Real

I don’t like those comments about Rassner not being flashy. Since when "flashy" wins championships?
Bruce4Real

Effective YES that wins championship and Rassner has started playing this season like an effective starter not afraid to go after hitters. Great for him, maybe the young studs can learn a thing or two from him and who says it has to be Hughes and Ian who MUST belong to the starting five in order for the Yankees to be successful this year?

They are part of the long term process to regain respectability (as perennial candidate for the WS title) but a group of starters with Mussina, Wang, Pettitte, Rassner and one of the young studs or Ohlendorf or Joba at the end of the season (in this instance Ohlendorf and Kyle playing an important role as the bridge to MO) would be perfectly alright.

The team is back at .500 but let’s not get ahead of ourselves by beginning to say things like it’s WS title or bust that would be utter non-sense the team is adjusting well as we go in part due to the failure of the chosen ones (Detroit and Boston) to be more effective at this time of the year but just like Boston and Detroit will surely right their ship so should we.

Bruce4Real

Back to the game: it was simply a great team effort starting with the new member of the starting group who true to his mantra kept it simple and threw fist pitch strikes not afraid of the hitters making contact (that’s why we had such a pricey defense spread all over the field) and went on from there.

Great job Rassner, great job guys. A nice collective effort. A team Win. Kyle was in and more important OUT of trouble, all part of this game of baseball but we won and we feel good about it.

Chalk that one to team effort.

Bruce4Real

Today is Pettitte the Yankee warrior who needs the run support and he should get it. We are sure he’ll give us his best effort and he deserves the win and we should give it to him and save it for him. We already lost too many games.

Now that Jeter has found his HR swing the team will start climbing the charts but still focusing on the job at hand and on its own record and will begin to make its serious challenge to those 2008 pretenders.

Let’s do it one pitch at a time one inning at a time and we don’t want any more injuries so stay within yourselves and play safe but execute in every facet of the game, you owe it to yourselves now that Giambi and Cano have started swinging those bats and running those bases (literally non-stop) with abandon.
Bruce4Real

Gagne has begged to be left out of the closer job for obvious reasons.Whatever happened to all those tabloid experts who said the Yankees lost the season when they didn’t bid for Gagne’s services last year?

These guys absolutely positively stated that it was a “Yankees huge mistake.”

No wonder some of us don’t think too highly of these tabloid experts.

Bruce4Real

Again. Pettitte the Yankee warrior needs the required run support and he should get it. We are sure he’ll give us his best effort and he deserves the win. The key word is EXECUTION on the field and at the plate 1 to 9.

A team effort is all that's needed.

Bruce4Real

I thought Pettitte was pathetic tonight.  Not on the mound but after the game. So you had a bad game which occurred on a night when your offense deserted you AGAIN.  But to act like if Tampa Bay owns you that’s pathetic.

I liked Girardi’s spin better  . . . . LOL.

Wake up Joe  . . . . .  nothing seems to bother you. It’s ok to try to instill confidence on your team but to believe that crap about everything being OK? C’mon  . . . . .  let’s go to the video.   The only thing better than that spin is Boston losing AGAIN.  Let’s not blame the Sux they’re giving us every which break and we’re not capitalizing on it.
