I’m not saying he is either BUT let’s say he’s very intelligent but then the question on every body’s mind is: Can he coach and adjust on the fly when playing the likes of the Sux, Rays or the Jays lead by the very best pitcher in ALL OF baseball Halladay? Because there is no doubt in my mind that Maddon and Francona can run many rings around our Joe and since the Sux and the Rays seem to be poised for the next season and beyond as well, how in the world are we going to beat those guys consistently enough since at this very moment we are even petrified by the very thought of going against Halladay once in a while?

Cashman says this failed season is on him (A-rod must be t.o. that’s usually his line) because Girardi did a great job. Girardi says NO this one is on him . . . really . . . . . because his coaches Kevin Long in particular did a great job preparing the team and the batters to take the Division by storm with aplomb and conviction. Long doesn’t say crap because he seems to be the only who realizes that all that is croak. How can this team be so incredibly irrelevant even when tradition, pride, salaries, their future on the line demanded they'd be just the opposite? Is that the Yankees idea of accountability? If the hitting coach was so smart and well prepared as Cashman says he was how come this offensive juggernaut manage to score only TWO tiny runs OR LESS in at least 47 games this season? . . . . . . that's 47 FRIGGING GAMES!!!! Injuries? Please . . . . . . . Stuff it. Could someone please elaborate how was that possible when EVERYONE WAS PLAYING HARD AND WITH FOCUS AND INTENSITY? GIVING IT ALL at the plate.
| Bruce4RealPosts: 1681Location: Join Date: November 29, 2007 11:46 PMSend Message | There was no focus nor intensity nor love for the colors or putting the team first. Did Posada put the team first when he demanded he’d be shown the money? Or when A-rod opted out due to medical reasons or Cano stopped caring about the team or the game because now he’s got the money? Giambi came to camp looking dandy but this is a walk off year, Kennedy and Hughes thought there was no way they’d be left out of the rotation. So the impression that this team leaves us with is: WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? A far cry from “it is quite an honor to wear the pinstripes.” | |

How are you going to fix that? You might start by playing hard until the last game and the last inning and the last out of the season for no reason other that you meant it when you said you were a better team than the record showed the whole year. On the season that is about to expire that might begin to do the trick. And don’t give us this spin about what kind of team we are going to have next year . . . . . please . . . . . .we’ll believe it when we see it (around October 2009 to be exact).
| Bruce4RealPosts: 1681Location: Join Date: November 29, 2007 11:46 PMSend Message | Thanks Posada for reminding us we’ll have problems behind the plate again next year after all you’ve done for us the last eight years. Two drops in a bucket . . . . . . . . . | |

Across the bay the Mets are beginning to doubt themselves and that’s worse than being booed by the fans or being under attack by the tabloids. All that is irrelevant . . . . What matters is how you feel about yourselves and your teammates. It’s all about you controlling your own destiny one game at a time which means it’s all in your hands. I have no doubt it will be done . . . . take one out, one inning at a time just like it applies to the Sux, the Rays it also applies to you guys. It will be nicer to win the Division but the most important thing is getting to the playoffs then you take your chances with your Ace and someone else on those short series although playing the likes of the Dodgers is better than playing the Cubs but regardless of whom you play the right thing to do now is just Soldier ON.

That was a well deserved standing ovation Moose. That makes this season ending less painful for both fans and players (we know it’s not about entitlement but still thanks for making it less painful) . . . . Kudos to you . . . . . we know your quest is not over but thanks just the same.

Excellent article from Ken Davidoff regarding Giambi’s generosity like the one he showed towards the team staffers that help the players day in and day out, especially in the year 2003 when he had no particular reason to be nice to people because that happened before the Roids episode. I was touched by the way he acted when our pitcher Cory Lidle died tragically and that’s something that we fans should remember when talking about the Giambi years with the team. That also tells us how much in touch or not some of our stars are with the regular fan and those who work for a modest living.

And just like that the Cathedral closes its doors for the last time. Long live the new Yankee Stadium.

That last day at the stadium was beautiful and then some but we still have a few games to play and just as Sweet Lou said “they may carry over to April.” This is a very important game for us (true Yankee fans) and Moose. The Jays are a great club but Moose is a great pitcher himself and the team has shown some pride, hunger and timely hitting lately. Now is the time to bunch up all this good stuff and go for it . . . . . one offering at a time, one out at a time. Trust your stuff (because you should, because it’s there) no extra pressure is needed just focus, determination and professionalism, no overanalyzing, no trying to win the game with one swing: Teamwork and execution. Don’t wait until the middle innings to score the needed runs . . . . . score early and often instead, especially tonight. You’ve done it before . . . . . . You can do it again, we know that.

Congratulations Moose . . . . . . A very valiant and awesome effort. A well deserved honor. We’ll see if fate gives you a chance to pitch another game this season against the Sux. It will be what it will be. Should you be able to take the mound at Fenway there’s no doubt in my mind the whole team will chip in for you to reach your goal. We win as a team and finishing with a win at Fenway won’t be shabby at all. We wish you a speedy recovery and we are thankful nothing major happened to your arm. Talking about a game of inches . . . . How about fractions of an inch? Let’s hope for the best then . . . . . . . meantime the team looks good grinding it out one game at a time.

BTW Congratulations to the Maddon’s Rays and the Francona’s Sux are definitively in order. Kudos to a great regular season.

ANDY PETTITTE . . . . . . . YOU’VE GOT A LOT OF NERVE. Listen to this guy: "The biggest thing was me, personally; I just pitched terrible," Pettitte said. "I don't think we played great, I don't think we hit in some clutch situations when we needed to, but everybody pitched really well other than me down the stretch. If I don't win one game out of my last 10 starts, I think the last couple days of the season, we'd be right there."

Andy meant the period starting July 31st which just so happens to be the period which coincided with Cashman sending Farnsworth to the Tigers in exchange for Ivan Rodriguez, a move that killed the Yankees chances for a playoff spot. The bullpen was working like clockwork so much so that Cashman thought he had the Midas touch and he could get anybody to replace Farnsworth and things would remain copacetic but that was not going to be the case and it went down exactly as predicted here. BUT wait all you hear is about the genius of Cashman and I’m probably the only one in agreement with Cashman that the team not making the playoffs was his doing and his doing alone.

So don’t come now you tired warrior and try to run that spin by us. Your mea culpa is hereby absolutely not accepted and that’s final. Go rest your tired shoulder, your body and your soul; go spend a lot of quality time with your family but don’t even try to go there again. You’d be so out of line.
| Bruce4RealPosts: 1681Location: Join Date: November 29, 2007 11:46 PMSend Message | Hughes meantime is trying to tease us again and he could look so much like the real deal just like he did last night. For what it’s worth just remember that Santana didn’t look that good at the same stage of his career. | |

And talking about the Mets what is it with these guys? They can’t close the deal. I know the Cubs are for real and they might meet the Cubs again in the playoffs but hey you’re not just playing for a playoff spot you have the starters and the hitting talent to go all the way. Don’t go making a liar out of me . . . . . . just play to your talent’s full max (in case you didn’t notice now it’s the time to do that).
| Bruce4RealPosts: 1681Location: Join Date: November 29, 2007 11:46 PMSend Message | If you ask me I think the Mets are playing trying not to lose instead of just playing full speed to win each remaining game. | |

This I feel is one of my most important posts. Every Yankee fan knows by now I don’t quit when it comes to supporting the Yankees. I try to be there through thick and thin I try to give my best take of what goes on at the stadium as influenced by the Yankee Brass and the ticket paying fans, which are the only fans that have a real chance to impact on the outcome of a game or a season. We know the problems this team has encountered throughout the whole season and how their best efforts came a little too late with one exception: Mike Mussina’s valiant effort. |
