Did you see the Orioles taking that expletive private dancer for a spin? Did you see his expressionless face afterwards? That expletive blank stare? PRICELESS. When he HAD to BE CLUTCH he was nothing but HOT AIR.

All I remember about Eric Hinske is that he used to hit our pitchers PRETTY GOOD whether he was with Toronto or Tampa Bay or the sux. What’s not to like about Hinske?

Finally a big thanks to Hank, Hal and Cash. That was a VERY NICE TOUCH at the beginning of the game. Very nice touch indeed.

That HS softball team you saw last night before the game against the Mariners were the Westhill H.S. Vikings, the defending 2008 FCIAC champions from Stamford, CT; a group of 20 great softball players (the fast pitch kind of course) from Connecticut whose 2009 season came to an end because of a technicality ( their not too smart coach was partly to blame) losing to a 22nd seeded team (the Vikings were sixth seeded) when they were forced to play their last State tournament game’s final 2 innings without their superstar pitcher Jen Joseph (all state player) because the head umpire made a bonehead decision without knowledge of the tournament rules. Let’s just say both coaches and the umpires where in the wrong and as a result these ladies came ready to resume game playing only to have their hearts broken when they were told the season was officially over 2 ½ hours earlier.

The Yankees basically honored their seniors who ended their HS career on this sad note; a team who overcame adversity and had a courageous and strong final push at the end of the season finishing with a 20-5 record. The senior players so honored were: BRITANNY LONGO KYLEE RUTHER LYNETTE MARTINEZ HANNAH GOLDSTONE JULIE OSIPOW TAYLOR KURTZ NICOLE MEMALE Good luck to these great athletes in their college academic future and all future endeavors.

Oh and about that other game in Baltimore, "Give the other team credit. They put pressure on our bullpen tonight and we pretty much imploded," PAPELBLOWN said. "I can't think of any other word that describes it better." Before the Red Sox blew the lead, Boston's infielders joined pitcher Justin Masterson in leaving the field with two outs in the sixth inning. Thinking Pie's grounder to shortstop was the third out, Masterson walked toward the Boston dugout and was followed by his infielders. All of them sheepishly returned after realizing their gaffe. Half the team left the field with only two outs? The great sux bullpen IMPLODED? If you think that’s just a coincidence . . . . . . . THINK AGAIN.

Remember what I said a couple of days ago about the METS doing far more damage against the sux in Foston than the mere two loses they inflicted upon them? The true students of the game (beyond the frigging stats freaks) know exactly what I meant. Now you begin to see the results and you’ll see the sux regressing (at least for the few games we need them to, maybe more). Will the Yankees be ready for that change in scenery without putting extra pressure on themselves? We hope so. They are yours for the taking. Let me put it this way: THE SUX ARE . . . . . . VERY BEATABLE!

I have said before and I say it again: “Let’s hurry up and then wait.” As long as we don’t think too high of ourselves (and start the toga parties and food fights) before we win anything and put the team before our very own interest (IN DEEDS) we’ll be okay; that doesn’t necessarily mean let’s not enjoy the games.

Fine job by Andy in one of his best outings so far this season. Efficient, Effective, Economical. Good stuff. A pitcher’s duel on top of that, if you love the game it was great to watch. Aceves, Coke and Mariano completed and finished the deal. On the offense Melky went ballistic, Alex remained ballistic and Damon continue to deposit the baseball on his favorite Zip Code. The Jet Stream was on and so were the Yankees and Junior with his beautiful swing just added the palace to his long distance resume.

Alex is getting hotter and the media wants to know what’s the Yanks next step with regards to Alex staying in the lineup. Tex and Alex are both going to get better which comes with Alex being more consistent at the plate same thing applies to Cano because when Cano gets hot (and it is about time Cano picks up the pace) then that lineup is going to be lethal in the middle, at the top and at the bottom; or as someone keeps saying it becomes contagious, then imagine being at the other end trying to pitch around you guys. Good luck to those opposing pitchers.

A perpetual and relentless string of singles, doubles, BB and the occasional HR should be our M.O. A thing of beauty and when that happens we can score early and often to help our pitchers throw with total abandon and confidence or score whenever needed in case you have to come from behind, something you have been able to do very often this year, that was something we were missing the last few seasons so in that sense this is a better team. Defense has continued to remain steadily good with stellar plays at the corners and in the middle. Posada (with men on base) is controlling his nerves better; that’s also a plus.

Hey man this is July already . . . . . . . . I thought we took care of those glitches (silly fundamentals) back in April.

I see Girardi suffering from some of the same ailments Torre used to be afflicted with and that is he, like almost everybody else in the business, loves hard throwing pitchers and he seems to be overlooking Aceves lately (the best reliever in the bullpen). I get the feeling that the fact that Aceves coming to extinguish some fires has picked up some wins in the process doesn’t sit well with Joe. That is an old managerial sin that goes God knows how many decades back. I just hope this doesn’t come back to bite him. I have said many times that Girardi is a reactive type of Manager. If he’s paying attention he might have noticed that Aceves last night seemed lost in the first few pitches he threw, the problem is that when Aceves comes on board is usually in situations where he cannot afford to be hesitant about and instead he needs to be the sure cool hand we are accustomed to.

He’s the closest thing to our Ramiro Mendoza who more than anybody else kept the team going during those championship years I don’t care what anybody says he just made it look so easy JUST LIKE ACEVES DOES. Don’t screw around with an almost sure thing Girardi; be smart. Trust me that's bound to hurt you and your team.

Just like the whole world including myself pointed out to the sux Lowell case when Alex underwent his hip procedure as proof that he could come back from it and play at a high level again it is important to not overlook the fact that because the team needed him so badly (with Ortiz having problems) Lowell just went down. IF THE DOCTOR SAYS ALEX SHOULD GET A WEEKLY REST then REST THE GUY at least once weekly. If Alex goes down like Lowell just did I wouldn’t want to be in Girardi’s shoes. Hell will break loose. There won’t be a second chance. Don’t listen to the media; the media is going to get you fired, trust me. HEY YANKEES YOU NEED TO LEARN FROM THE FEW SUX MISTAKES.

Rest means REST not DHing; we know how fanatic Alex is on game day, that won’t qualify as rest. No way no how. I have said before that even God rested on the seventh day and He wasn’t making that kind of money. The team should be able to carry the torch and I say this matter-of-factly. This lineup should be able to operate with Alex or anybody else out on any given day. Let’s be smart about it.

The sux didn’t implode again down in Baltimore . . . . . . . . . . they just followed their pitcher du jour and walked off the field with two outs in the fifth inning. I’m sure they will get it right one of these days, right Papelblown? Do you still wax your legs . . . . . . private dancer?

“We had a chance maybe to break the game open and we weren’t able to do it and that happens,” Girardi said. That happens? Let the record show that the calendar is pointing towards the month of JULY Joe. By now when we have a chance to break the game open; WE DO IT. Unless you are planning to spend the month of October at home. Remember pitchers can’t hit in the AL only batsmen can . . . . . . . . let’s enter that item on the punch list.

Burnett agreed with Girardi that the location of his fastball made a difference Friday, but he also said the change of venue helped. “Completely different,” Burnett said. “It wasn’t the same. Not even close. Not even close. I didn’t even pay attention to who got in the box today, first time, it was kind of weird.” Could that mean you have reached the next plateau? I tend to agree with that. Funny that also seems to be the way Mariano pitches he’s far more interested in the catcher’s mitt than in who's at the plate or their current team’s domicile. This should be a very important piece of information for our young studs.
| Bruce4RealPosts: 1681Location: Join Date: November 29, 2007 11:46 PMSend Message |
On the other hand Burnett could almost easily affect how he approaches the game when he pitches in two very important ballparks; for him one is of course Toronto and the other one far more important for our team is Foston. Same exact approach should do the trick. With his tools and discipline that should be a no-doubter, whether is going up against Halladay or Beckett in our books we think he could almost easily (when he fully trust his stuff that’s a no brainer) compete with those two studs and others like them. We like his chances in those instances, that’s how good we think he is. |
