He had his assistant coach congratulate Sachem's girls on making it to the finals. I guess he felt it was unnecessary to display long held sportsmanship principles. I do not live in North Babylon, but if I did I would be very proud of how their girls played and acted on the court. I can not say the same for Coach Petry, at least as far as the intro's went. I think he may be forgetting that even though these teams are unbelievably talented in the basketball arena and that he can take credit for being a good basketball coach, that part of his responsibility is to teach basic politeness and sportsmanship. As a parent I am disappointed by his example. It was a great game and all girls involved and their families should be extremely proud that they made it to the Finals.

I am a NB graduate and a teacher and coach in another district. All I know is when his star players make plays, they don't go dancing down the court or pound their chest. They also don't yell at the refs when things don't go their way. If you watched his East Islip teams you would know that they were so successful because of their hardwork and dedication to the game. For some individual to make such an outrageous statement about sportsmanship is a disgrace. As a coach I will tell you that the kids folllow their coaches lead. I am sure that the Sachem East girls were congratulated by Petre after the game the way it should be. Thank you Coach Petre for making us fans of NB proud. And of course thank you to all the members of that Bulldog team. I haven't been this happy since Jason Gwantley.

He coached my daughter in AAU and spent so much time devoted to developing his players. He has involved many of his players in camps...giving them summer work, etc. Coach Petrie arranged for his AAU team and his EI players to play at Madison Square Garden during halftime at a WNBA game. I just have the highest respect for Mike Petrie! I've been at many games where an assistant shook the opposing team's hand. I wasn't at this game but I don't think he was slighting anyone.

It's always the assistant coach. Coach Petre has more respect and sportsmanship for the game than you'll ever know, almost all opposing players know him. He is very respectful towards other players and other teams, you will never see his players being disrepectful. You never see him run scores up, or his best players scoring 50 in a 53 point win. It's amazing what people say, when they lose. If you wan't to know Coach Petre call him, he talks to everyone. He loves the game, the kids and the whole scene |
