Though I did see Port Jeff play this year, there is no doubt that despite the efforts of the kids on that team, they would have gotten pasted by Port Jefferson teams from the early to Mid 80's back to the early 70's.

Overall Comsewogue,  Miller Place, Rocky Point, and Shoreham are not in the same class as the teams at their high schools in the mid-late 70's to mid 80's.

Why is there such a difference now?

Nielson vs Toby Knight????  You could start there. Frank Romeo, one of the top HS coaches have to go farther???

Coen, Goodman, Venable (as an 8th Grader) Langlois all at Port during the late 70's on the same team.

Austin, Read (all of them), Hogan and his gang  - all at Miller Place in the late 70's early 80's with Brown, Sommerstad, and Burke as coaches.

Best team was Romeo's Comsewogue 78-79 team with Jacobs, Barlow, and that group.

His 84 team was also exellent. I agree his 79 team was very good too. Better players and better coaching, Did the coaches make the players, did the players make the coaches, or a combo???  I know you need players to win. Been on both ends as was Frank

Less parental pollutants.  I believe that the kids flat out wanted to play the game more. Kids actually got cut from high school teams who could really play.

All the Miller Place, Port Jeff, and Comsewogue coaches were always working with kids at the Comsewogue morning program and watching closely at pick up games down at the Harbor.

AAU was unnecessary at that time.

Funny thing, my AD would not allow summer programs, fear of looking like you might be breaking the no coaching out of season rule that was in effect at that time
