| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | I can see from today's paper that Newsday is stepping in the right direction. Its like the 90's all over again. A whole page on track is a wonderful thing. The track althlete of the week Sarah McCurdy(Very well deserved), you all know who she is and if you don't, you haven't been to many xc or track meets in the last 6 years. She is a great athlete, great student, great kid, multiple time all-state and all-american, and a WENDY'S High School Heisman Finalist. Congrats to Sarah and to Amire Solomon of St. John the Baptist(The Triple Jump Threat)(Solomon's big leap foward-Good article in todays Newsday). Also soon to come or already here the N-Zone with Kyle Merber of HHHW. Newsday, I feel is doing a 100 times better job now then during the xc season and want to say Thank you to them. There also is a big difference in the amount of info on the website as well from Newsday.Good Job, Thanks again, and please keep it up. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | I have seen many great races and performances this year but have to say Kyle Merber of HHHW might be the most exciting runner to watch. Whether its the xc state meet or the 4:15 mile he always sits back during the race and out of no where, gets a second wind and takes off like he just started the race. Never know what to expect. He's always, always smiling and never ever has a bad thing to say about anything or anybody. One thing he admits he does, that could be seen as his only negative is he always looks back during his races. The thing is, he doesn't need to because its only forward for this great kid and great athlete. Great job and goodluck this weekend at the Armory. Long Island represent in the mile races at the Armory and anywhere else you run. | |

| KMerberPosts: 31Location: Join Date: December 7, 2007 11:59 PMSend Message | Thank you for the kind words. I'm going to ask around and see if any other seniors have their college picked out yet. We defniitely need to get some more posting going on here. Newsday has been giving Long Island a lot more coverage and even covered a crossover meet for Nassau. They're normally at the armory every weekend so the requests must've worked. Any predictions for the league meets coming up? It seems like there are no heavy favorited teams this year which will make the anticipated events all the more exciting. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | BIG WEEKEND FOR TRACK AND FIELD FOR SECTION VIII AND XI. YALE TRACK CLASSIC UP IN CT. 01/18/08-01/19/08 (YALE UNIVERSITY IN NEW HAVEN) NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL AT THE ARMORY 01/19/08 SUFFOLK BOYS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS ON SUNDAY 01/20/08 SCCC BRENTWOOD SECTION VIII GIRLS CONFERENCE 2,4,6 CHAMPIONSHIPS AT SCCC BRENTWOOD 01/17/08 GOODLUCK AND GREAT JOB TO ALL RUNNERS, COACHES, PARENTS, and NEWSDAY. Great showing last night at the Art Mitchell Meet. Some girls were resting up but plenty of good performances. Any Predictions for FRIDAY, SATURDAY, OR SUNDAY. Could see Long Island capturing the girls 500 meters and boys and girls mile races but it wont be easy. Have to give it to Chanelle Price of Easton Pa.(UTenn 08) in the 500 and I think the national record will be challenged by a few runners in that race. Every one go out and support your teammates, classmates, coaches, family members and friends at any of these amazing meets this week. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | Sure not too many people are suprised by Chanelle Price of Easton, PA breaking the 500m national high school record in an amazing time of 1:10.30. What is amazing are some of the times of the distance super sophmores of Nassau County.Check them out at Section VIII The Nassau County distance runner super sophmores of Briana Welch, Emily Menges, Emily Lipari, Lucia Montefusco, and Erica Cirino are running some amazing times this year. Nassau has some amazing underclassman in all events. This state and island is full of great talent but nassau's class of sophmores could be something special. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | Bobby Andrews of SWR, WOW is all you can say. Only a Junior and just ran a 4:12 mile which puts him number 1 now in the country infront of Kyle Merber of HHHW. We are going to have some suffolk qualfiying races starting with Leagues tomorrow. Andrews, Merber, Franklin, Signoretti, and a few other runners means some amazing times. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | No one is perfect, which I see often in my typing and talking before I thinking lol. Sometimes I get alittle too excited like Mr. Vitale. It is not Bobby Andrews of SWR it is Bobby Andrews of Manapalan of Englishtown New Jersey. Either way both are great distance runners and both are Juniors so they will competing a lot against one another the next 2 years. | |

GREAT RACE. HOPE EVERYONE HAS TICKETS FOR MILLROSE AT THE GARDEN.!!!!!!GREAT JOB WAY TO RUN!!!!! | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | Not only did Merber break the Suffolk record but he beat Charles White( Garden City to Cherry Creek H.S. in Colorado and then to Texas U.08), last years mile champion, 2 of the top 5 FootLocker XC Finalists and some should recognize some of the other runners especially Michael Fout of LaPorte In., who is featured in this months Sports Illustrated and was the Gatorade National runner of the year for cross country and won many many races including Footlocker Nationals 5K race in 14:50. Cory Leslis Ohio(FSU),Sintayehu Taye Ma, (Virginia U in Fall of 08) a Footlocker Finalist in XC a few times. On the girls side the NY girls took 6 of the top 11 spots in the girls Mile Invitational at Reebok. 4:58.83 was Bayshore's own Sarah McCurdy ( Wendy's H.S. Heisman Finalist) in 6th place and the Super Soph Briana Welch Of Northshore was 7th in a time of 5:00.61 both beating some tough runners in Kristin Reese Carmel(Stanford), Nicole Benson Peoria Ill,Tori Pennings Warwick, and Caitlin Lane of Greenwich (Penn State). GREAT JOB TO ALL, FROM BOTH OF THESE RACES AND THE SUFFOLK GIRLS LEAGUES TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK RUNNERS. | |
| athletes-supportPosts: 38Location: Join Date: January 27, 2008 8:49 PMSend Message | The Suffolk County Girls track teams had their League Championships today. Great races were run by so many. It would be nice if Newsday would cover the track somewhat. Yes Merber for the boys and McCurdy for the girls are clearly this years best but there are many, many more great runners who deserve to be recognized. | |
| mcfanPosts: 19Location: Join Date: January 28, 2008 3:16 PMSend Message | Coverage is good but could be better. Nowhere online or in print could you find that Middle Country Boys won Division I beating top 10 (Newsday) ranked Brentwood and Longwood . Plenty on SWR Boys and Sachem girls but not one mention. Also, MC not ranked in top 10. Good luck to all in Counties, with hopefully MC getting the recognition it deserves. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | Not knocking Newsday or the supporters who want more track in the paper and online but I would say Newsday is doing a 100 times better now then in xc. When we have basketball boys and girls and wrestling with other sports, one article on track everyday is not bad and thats what they have been putting in basically. Everyday there is something and thats alot better than it has been. Once again Newsday is making changes in the right direction but I only see one runner posting on here...Thanks Kyle.. Lets go runners, support something. To get others to support your sport and show interest it must start with you. Great job to all that ran this weekend. I saw some really good tight races. Also saw some great ones on TV from Reebok in Boston... Counties up next!!!!!! | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | Ok anyone have a list of their college choices???? February 06 less than a week away. Maybe if we get a list, Newsday can put a little writeup on the colleges you runners pick. They did print it last year but I know not everyone was on it. Maybe if everyone posts on here and they see all the runners going to D1 and DII schools they will print it up especially when you guys go to more D1 schools than other sports. High school rivals Gabriela Baiter and Bianca Fung grew up 12 miles apart in New York's Suffolk County and cultivated a competitive relationship. Any friendly animosity instead has been turned into camaraderie on the Penn State women's indoor track and field team. The pair of jumpers -- Baiter will compete in the long and triple jumps, and Fung will be a long-jumper -- highlight Penn State's recruiting class. Collegian Online is where this above article is from... Good article if anyone hasn't read it or wants to read it. Just another 2 Section XI stars shining in the national college spotlight. For the Collegian | |
