Do not have official scores yet but if I had to guess I'd say Northport won. Very exciting watching the high jump and watching I think Bayshore's John Dettori and Sachem Easts' Rich Roethel battle it out. Great races as well, and two of the most exciting races were the 1600 and 3200 where, Barry Franklin of Longwood, came from about 4th place half way through both races and had one of those Kyle Merber like second winds to pull out the convincing victory in both races. Way to go all around to every team, runner, and coach. You all did great, it was a very good day for track and field. The small schools champiosnhips will be just as, if not more exciting. Good Luck Small schools and good luck to all at State quals.

Once again Newsday is making changes in the right direction but I only see one runner posting on here...Thanks Kyle.. Lets go runners, support something. To get others to support your sport and show interest it must start with you.
it must feel like you're talking to yourself on here sometimes huh? I can't speak for anyone else but I always look for new posts on this message board.. just don't always have much to say. however I do agree that newsday has definitely improved its coverage of track. glad to see that they did an insider on my teammate Janet and a little bit about our team. Go newsday.. but more importantly GO Mt. Sinai!
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | Not to leave anyone out, Good Luck to Westhampton's Leah Buletti in the Mile racewalk. Leah has done nothing but win, winning the state track meet in 6:46.66 last year in winter track. She has won every cross over this year and has many victories in her career. Best part for her team and her coach is she is only a Junior. She will be going against some very good competition, one being Loretta Schuellein who holds the Millrose record in the mile walk in a time of 6:52.12. I believe this record will be another one that gets rewritten today. These ladies can walk a 1500 or a mile faster than some of us can run it. ESPN2 February 01, 2008 7PM. | |

Congrats LEAH BULETTI | |

| mcfanPosts: 19Location: Join Date: January 28, 2008 3:16 PMSend Message | A wonderful meet at Suffolk large schools!. Yes high jump was very entertaining. Congrats to Northport on a well deserved victory. Lots of tight races, especially relays, made for top efforts and exciting finishes. Also congrats to Longwood, Brentwood and Middle Country on their top 5 finishes. I am looking forward to spring and another great season. Somebody please remind Newsday that the meet already took place, since there has been ZERO coverage of it. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | How did they do it? Its just amazing and almost unbelievable. KYLE MERBER HHHW: Ran a 4:13 on the small oval at MSG Friday night at 10PM for the mile(1st Place). Then satuarday goes and runs a 9:30.01, 3200 a 2:31.61 1000, and then a 4:10.96 in the 1600 on the hard gym floor with no give at Suffolk Brentwood.(All 1st places) DENNIS SCRUGGS BELLPORT BULLDOGS: His 4x400 team runs a 3:32.47 on Friday evening(3rd Place), then goes on Saturday and runs another 1:20.44 in the 600, high jumps 6'-3" and 3:25.24 in the 4x400 again.(All 1st places at SCCC). ***NOT ONLY DID THESE TWO FINE ATHLETES WIN THE SMALL SCHOOL'S TITLE IN EVERY EVENT THEY ENTERED, BUT THEY HAD THE OVERALL BEST TIME AND HEIGHT, EVEN WHEN YOU MERGE IN THE LARGE SCHOOLS.*** ***EVERY EVENT AND RACE THAT THESE TWO PARTICIPATED IN TODAY WERE AMAZING AND RANKS THEM IN THE STATE AND NATIONALLY.*** GREAT JOB KYLE AND DENNIS, GREAT JOB BELLPORT 4X400 AND EVERY TEAM AND RUNNER FROM THIS WEEKENDS EVENTS. GOODLUCK AT STATE QUALS GUYS AND GALS. | |
| SECTIONXIFANPosts: 25Location: Join Date: January 9, 2008 9:34 PMSend Message | I apologize to Mr Merber, Mr Scruggs and any one else affected by my last blog. The last one about the small schools title was completely off. I was looking at the Seeds and not the actual times when I wrote it. Kyle did win the 1000, 1600, and 3200 and Dennis did win the 600, and 4x400 but placed second in the high jump to Andrew Macniven of East Hampton. They did not have the top over all time when including the Large schools either. That would have been Barry Franklin for the 3200. Dennis Scruggs was 1st in the 600 and 4x400 overall large schools included and 2nd in small schools in the high jump. Kyle Merber was 1st in the 1000 and 1600 overall large schools included and 1st in the 3200 but 5th when including the large schools. Either way one great weekend for two great kids. Running on friday evening and running great times the following day is still amazing and unbelievable. This years state quals and state meets are going to one of the best for both boys and girls. | |
| SECTIONXIFAN08Posts: 28Location: Join Date: February 9, 2008 11:59 PMSend Message | I have more to post but was knocked off after my last post and had to make a new but very similar screen name. Congrats to all the girls from the Large and Small school Championships and I'll see you all this week at the Section XI state qualifiers. I was wondering where Mr. Merber received the information about the HS sports out of the print area of Newsday?I would not be suprised if it happens either just hope its someone playing a joke on him. I am trying to figure out how I was knocked off the message boards again since I have not posted one negative post yet!Maybe Newsday?lol On another note I think the person or persons keeping up on the section xi webpage are doing a very good job this year, a step up from last year. I'd also like to give a special thank you to Mr. Tony Toro for the great results and pictures he is doing for all of us on Long Island. He is doing an unbelievable job getting the results posted the very next day and at the same time snapping photos and everything else. Thanks again to all and anyone who supports the kids and hopefully Newsday will follow by keeping these children in the back of the paper. Anyone interested in his site it is just-in-time-racing.com | |
| SECTIONXIFAN08Posts: 28Location: Join Date: February 9, 2008 11:59 PMSend Message | So Suffolk State Quals girls and boys are both Tuesday night at Suffolk Brentwood???Thats February 12th. Great articles on the nassau finals by Newsday but nothing at all on the Suffolk Championships for Large schools and I believe small schools. Also hopefully if you all have chosen schools and signed letters of intent we can make a list and maybe send it in to newsday and maybe they can print it like they did for Newsday??????I saw the football list and not too many to Big D1 schools and I know you runners will be going to more than a few D1 | |

| mcfanPosts: 19Location: Join Date: January 28, 2008 3:16 PMSend Message | Newsday was late, but they did cover counties in Sunday sports section of 2/3. Thank you Newsday. Included were mentions of Misters Franklyn of Longwood and Lewis of MC for their double victories. Also mentioned were Scruggs and Merber for small schools. I don't know the actual numbers, but I think that more students participate in track than any other sport-with football the possible exception. They deserve the coverage they get and hopefully Newsday realizes this and continues to increase their coverage
