I also wish you good luck in your search for a coaching position. I'm sure you would do a good job. I only wish it would be for MC-although I have no problem with the current coaches. And if I was one of the Newsday "blog" writers, I would be blocking your access too!!  Look at the articles and dates of them. Keep up the good work. Any predictions for the upcoming outdoor season?

First congrats to all who ran at the NSIC and NIN. Many great races by many from Long island. Now everyone will be getting ready for another great year of spring track. Goodluck to all and work hard. Also remember for you Seniors this is your last HS season so not only work hard, teach the younger ones, but have fun doing it.

I dont know Middle County coaches personally but your boys team is competitive every year and every season in XC and track.  I know you use to have a very good coach in Jerry Leeds and back in the 90's were a force to be reckoned with 1992 placed 6th at the Class A state meet, 1994 placed 4th, 1995 placed 3rd, 1996 placed 4th, 1998 placed 8th, and had many good individual runners. So thats not easy to keep doing. William Floyd, Longwood and MC all had great runners and great teams in the 80's 90's and still have good teams with many good athletes. I wouldn't worry too much, I would say MC is heading in the right direction as well as William Floyd and Longwood and I know Floyd and Wood coaches lose a few athletes to their football teams. I wouldn't worry too much. On another note I haven't seen any blogs from Rich Adickes of Floyd. I know he had posted and had to stop running for medical reasons. How you been Rich? Hope all is well and keep fighting where ever you are. Any updates from anyone?

So you want to know my predictions?     For which divisions as a team or State Quals or both?

I was pretty bad during xc when I picked Kings Park over Miller Place( even though they were 1 and 2 in Class A) and my picks of SWR boys and girls and Smithtown Boys were easy ones. I did pick the top four for Class AA right,  I picked Ward Melville and Northport 1 and 2 both right( because I said SueJin was not herself that day at divisions and her places in both races is what made the difference in Divisions and State quals) then picked Longwood over Bayshore which was wrong for the girls in Class AA. I dont want to jinx anyone but its all in good fun. I think my picks will shock some people especially for the boys.  I'd like to see what who you all think are going to win divisions????

SECTIONXIFANO8

Another question. I have seen or heard where just about every senior on long island is going next year but two. Two of the best, one boy and one girl. Giovanni Signoretti and SueJin Ahn of Ward Melville.  Any idea? I have an Idea actually were they are going a hint.... no 1 and 2 for XC in the country these two college teams in 07, but I dont want to spread false information. These two have had great careers for years and they should have their names printed some where.

Suejin committed to Duke on a partial!?!. She must really like the school. Regarding previous MC track teams-only recently have the two schools combined for outdoor.  Centereach and especially Newfield did have some very good boys teams-with many earning scholarships. For some reason the girls have not fared so well. Who can figure why some schools like Bayshore always field a good girls team and schools like MC rarely do. It's got to be more than just coaching. Maybe its the water. For boys this year, it looks like a dogfight in A between Longwood,Brentwood and MC. The depth of MC -especially in sprints- may prevail as it did indoors. You got to  like Northport and Smithtown. Also SWR, Mt Sinai,Bellport and HHE.

MCFAN: I know SueJin always made ALL ACADEMIC at the ALL COUNTY dinners so I would think she received an academic scholarship or some sort.  Not saying all in the Ward Melville school district have money but Id bet many are not missing dinner or taking cold showers because they cant buy oil.  Even if no other money besides a partial athletic scholarship, who can complain and not that anyone is but she is running in the ACC for the DUKE BLUE DEVILS who by the way I was hoping were upset last night by Belmont.  Always cheer on the underdog.

I have to laugh at something you said and it was about Bayshore and that it can't be all about coaching and it must be in the water.  Not saying your point is wrong or anything it is just that I always use Bayshore as an example and say that it is about the coaching and it is not in the water. Great teams have great coaches no doubt about it.  You guys see how FM, Shenendowa, and Saratoga dominate either for boys or girls year in and year out, thats good coaching.  I always say and even got in trouble during XC for saying it but great teams reload and good teams rebuild and some teams are always at the bottom.  I watch at the meets and you can see some coaches what they do and what others dont do.  I have mentioned it to other parents and coaches about Coach Borbet's differences and what puts him over the top. Not putting down any other coaches at all. I do think most are giving 150% effort and hope no one takes offense because these are all just opinions. I could get more into details but I plan on coaching and don't want to give any more secrets away...lol

             Now about Coach Steve Borbet.......

SECTIONXIFANO8

Coach Borbet if not the best coach now or of all time on Long Island he has to be in that sentence with the others.  Bayshore hadn't lost a dual meet since 1996 until the one they lost this year to a great northport team, by a close score of 25-33 without one of their top players and everyone forgets without Alexis Ferguson who ran a 20:45 as a 7th grader in 2004 and she'd only be a sophmore now.  She supposedly left to play tennis instead.   The Marauders have won 10 straight league championships and 54 straight dual meets before that loss and 27 of the 29 runners that ran for Bay Shore had personal best times on that day as well.   So it shows you how good Northport was.

Coach Borbet's track team has won the League II championship 11 years in a row and the County Championship 6 of the last 8 years(2000, 02, 03, 04, 05, and this past year with 119 points and second place Northport was a long ways away with 47 so it wasn't even close. The Marauders came in second place the other two years they didn't win it.

He has so many county champs I am not even going to write them all.lol  His teams and runners have been nationally ranked and won national championships as individuals and relay teams more than a few times as well.  The ALL Time Suffolk Top 5K Time by Laura Cummings of 18:15.3 is one of his runners.  He has had more than 16 girls who ran under 20 minutes at Sunken Meadow (The toughest course in the state and maybe the country). 6 of them are under 19:20 on that course which is just sickening.

In track they have many of the county relay records. A 4x400 of 3:55.59. The 4x800 record in 9:04.51.  The 4x1600 record in a time of 20:58.2.  DMR record in a time of 11:43.5. The one mile relay record, the shuttle run relay record, and the individual records of the 3000 meters by Cummings(UNC to Albany) in 9:49.76, and the mile record by Mary Liz McCurdy(Stanford) in a time of 4:52.87.

The best thing is he consistantly has his runners going to top schools and athletic programs year in and year out.  Another great thing for Bayshore and not for the rest of us especially me(another asst. coaching job I would have loved to have) went to  Ms. Susanne Allen, who was an All-Suffolk County runner at Half Hollow Hills and ran at Quinnipiac University.(Another Up and coming program with very good coaches in head coach Shawn Green  and Asst coach/recruiting coach Roy Harrison at Quinnipiac.  Coach Harrison's daughter is actually a freshman runner at Brown but come on who can turn down the IVY League even if your dad is a college coach of another team. Ms. Allen is also a Physical Therapist on top of all of her experience.  Seems they have it all covered over there at Bayshore with the team having a coach and trainer all in one.

This has nothing to do with the water or the he had a few good years excuse.lol This is a GREAT COACH and in my opinion THE BEST LONG ISLAND HAS EVER SEEN IN ALL SPORTS.  BEST THING ABOUT HIM IS HE IS A GREAT MAN, PERSON, AND ROLE MODEL TO EVERYONE AND ANYONE THAT COMES IN CONTACT WITH HIM AND HE HAS INFLUENCED SO MANY PEOPLE.

I told you I'd being doing a few on coaches  and here is the first one.......so.......

How's this NEWSDAY.PRINT THAT!!!!!!LOL/JK           Just dont block me...lol

I think both teams should be good in the leagues and both teams lost some great girl athletes especially Sayville but I still have to go with Sayville winning the league 5.    Jaqueline Kaste, Brittany Llobell, and Sarah Pellegrini in the distance races and relays will be points for Sayville.  Sayville being a small school always has good distance runners. They also have good field events, sprinters, and hurdles like Islip does as well but the distance, steeple, and relays will put them over the top. Again this is only my opinion and wish both teams great seasons. Hey you at Islip could always use this as motivation too it could work to your benefit.

Good Luck to Ryan Sheridan from Walt Whitman and Iona who will be running March 30 in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. He will be running with 5 others as a team of guys under 20(6 of the Top HS and College runners in the country) who will compete in the 8K against the best in the world.  The girls team will be running the 6K.  Goodluck Ryan who in his last two big races placed 2nd in both by about a second. Great things from this kid who never quits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SECTIONXIFANO8

I have a question for anyone that has an answer!!!!!!!     Does an athlete have to qualify for the pentathlon?     If so how and when can they qualify?
SECTIONXIFANO8

For the pentathlon I saw on the section XI results page it says one entry per school and a second may be conisdered. It says State Qualifying standard is 2750 points. Sound correct? So every single school is allowed one athlete to compete in divisions? If so what about state quals?     How is it scored?   For example, the 800 is it based on your time or your place?  or both?
KMerber

I believe the IAAF has an official scoring table that is internationally used for the pentathalon and decathalon. Place is not important at all in any event, just the times and distances and then you awarded a certain amount of points. I know we had an athlete try it for the first time last year at Divisions and he had never previously done 3/5 of the events. I also think a few years ago we had an athlete do it at state quals.

Thank you for the site Kyle. I am always on Tully runners it is a very good track site by a track coach upstate and I should have known it would be there somewhere.  For any of you runners or parents of runners Tully runners has many of the top runners times from every section including 8 and 11. It has  the meet, the date and info for xc and track incase anyone doesn't keep track of their times and needs them for college or just want to compare to other runners.  Thanks again and goodluck in your winter track season.

Goodluck to any girls running tomorrow at Bayshore.
