Or did they just watch what channel 12 played on the news. It seems the exact race winners that channel 12 put on the news, Newsday puts in their paper? Cmon now.... Everyone that was there saw two great races that havent even been mentioned anywhere besides me. That was the Boys 3000 steeple and the Girls 2000 steeple. MaryKate Anselmini of Ward Melville, and Brittany Llobell of Sayville had great times in the steeple and put on a show. So did third place Cecile Reuge also of Ward Melville with a strong performance. All 3 had great races. On the boys side look at my blog above. Barry Franklin in the 3000 steeple is no joke. When he drops 20 more seconds off that time then maybe someone besides me will give him more than 2 lines. Great race to all racers and events because plenty of great field events as well. Great race again to these 4.

I highly encourage everyone to check out the Summit Running XC camp held at Sunken Meadow this summer from July7th-11th. It has an extremely accomplished staff of runners and coaches and in a year when the state meet is being held at Sunken Meadow, you will want to hear advice from the likes of John Gregorek, Ryan Sheridan and other nationally known runners and FL finalists. Parents, coaches and athletes should all take a look at the brochure to learn more info.

Every day we see rankings in baseball, lacrosse, softball, etc but we have yet to see any track rankings despite the fact that more students run track than do any other sport!!!! The other problem is they probably won't do their homework- as shown by their indoor rankings. On another note, Mc boys beat Ward Melville 90 to 6 -not- 90 to 60 as reported by Newsday. I bring this up not to brag, but to point out that the W-M coach, knowing he could not beat MC, decided not to bring his A team. He decided practice was better than running in a meet- especially his distance runners. The meet was a joke and relays weren't even run. MC runners, coaches and parents were disappointed to say the least. I think it was a diservice to all runners and the league in general. What does everybody else think of this practice?
| JackieSparlingPosts: 8Location: Join Date: February 1, 2008 2:14 PMSend Message | that's funny that newsday must have assumed it was the typical 90-60 meet because coaches put that in as the score as to not embaress the other teams. and i don't think that's right either, its only fair to give it an honest effort.
and that was why i asked for everyone else's input.. because newsday's got nothing and frankly they mean nothing anyway.. everyone on here knows a lot more than the actually reporters, about track anyway. i see no one wants to be the first to give their opinion haha

I'm just getting around to reading this...I know a couple of people on the staff and you are way out of line saying that Newsday took something from News 12 and put it in the paper. The coaches called in those results. So was Newsday at the St. Anthony's Invitational Friday or Saturday? That was a huge track meet with the best from Nassau and Suffolk public schools competing against the best from the Catholic schools. I didn't see anything mentioned in Newsday. There was a half page story about the Southampton girls from Shoreham-Wading River Invitational. I would rather see many small stories about many runners then to see a half page on one school's team.
| JackieSparlingPosts: 8Location: Join Date: February 1, 2008 2:14 PMSend Message | that just goes to show that they don't write articles about who's good, what's going on at the moment in track, that best teams, ect ect because they dont even know who or what that is, they don't put the time in.. it's completely random, whatever is easiest for them to get a story about. personally i thought that the southhampton article was very poorly written and pointless. they just butchered it. don't get me wrong, coach arnold and his girls are great, they're probably the nicest team that we compete with by far.. it's just the article is awful. the whole thing is about how none of the girls ran the race they thought they would run at the meet. okay? sure it's not completely irrelevant but they dedicated about 3 paragraphs to it. i don't think they even put their time in it.
i just think its horrible that they know so little about track that they don't even know what to write about in an article involving it. what's important, what isn't, what we want to read about as athletes/coaches/parents/fans. i'll write the articles.. really.. they don't even have to pay me, i'm at all the meets anyway haha

The coaches called in those results. I haven't posted in awhile for many reasons and was going to stay off these sites for other personal interests, but now that I am being bashed, where should I begin? First reporters and writers or their friends and fans should be the last ones talking about being way out of line from people voice their opinions especially when they buy the paper and put adds in and all. Its called freedom of press and speech which they use all the time. Second as you, I and everyone else knows they are consistantly wrong on many issues and not just in sports and I do not mean just Newsday, i mean papers, reporters, and writers in general on the facts, dates, times, locations, and plenty of times add their own opinions on all issues. Last...every year Newsday puts in the contracts and salaries of people who helped them become writers and editors meaning the teachers and bashing how much they make. They do it to police officers and sherriffs and correction officers who make our streets clean and safe and keep garbage locked up even with all the dangers of their jobs and the overtime and extra shifts they must work their salaries are posted as well. Do they post their highest salaries as reporters, editors? Nope, never and why because everyone else is public knowledge and they are not, so I hear anyway. Never said I was right or wrong. This is a blog it is opinions not all facts!!!!!!!!GET OVER IT

But in his first year ever runing hurdles he is now running a 15.5 on avg with a best of 15.2 that is amazing. i just wish i had a few years to teach him more cause i believe this kid could have been better then longwoods austin arcibald was if he had the training all throughout highschool. And we cant forget about his football buddy brock Jakolski who is tearing up the 100 200 long and tripple events this year lets see if floyd can finnaly score some points at counties this year. I only know boys well so here goes: Middle Country is the team to beat, with Longwood, Wm Floyd,Northport, and maybe Bellport close behind. i would agree except i would put floyd in front of longwood for one reason we last a close meet to them by i think one or two points but our pole vaulter was just returning from an ACL injury and he is much better now and i feel he could easly take the volevault now.....and also our tripple jumpers jumped horible that day vaughn magee and brock should have beat the longwood kid but thats just my opinion and remember its greatly bias lol
| athletes-supportPosts: 40Location: Join Date: January 27, 2008 8:49 PMSend Message | You know Jackie when I read that Newsday Article on the SWR Relay Invitational I was wondering where the times were also. I wanted to see how they compared to the St. Anthony's Invitational times. I understand the SWR meet was mostly small schools. But I think that Newsday should have covered both or at least mentioned both and some of the winning times. I found the times under the Newsday Track Blog http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/highschool/track_field/blog/ St Anthony's also had unseeded races on Friday night with some pretty good times. Most faster than the SWR times. A sample of the time differences are below SWR Relay Invitational Results St. Anthony's Invitational | |
| JackieSparlingPosts: 8Location: Join Date: February 1, 2008 2:14 PMSend Message | actually, bayshore's time in the 4by8 was 9:31.37. you must have seen their seed by accident instead of their final time. that was one of the best races of the day with 4 teams finishing under 940. not to mention the 800 run which was stacked with talent between mccurdy, lipari, welch, lipsey ect ect. and then to see lipari and welch race again in the 1500. the boys 800 was also a great race. i don't know, i can't assume but i don't think there was that kind of all-american talent at the swr meet.
also i'd like to wish good luck to my team tomorrow as we compete for the league title in our last meet against shoreham.. if any of my teammates do read this that is =)

I don't know if Newsday is going to have more scoring information on line as I see there is a new link to the scores. We can only hope that everyones complaining has paid off.

MCfan...We're sorry you found this as a diservice...however MC is one of (if not the) best team in the county. WM was not going to beat them with or without those distance runners...I would also like to point out that the entire team went with the exception of the 4 kids who were doing the workout...so only 4 kids missed out on that meet, other then those kids that was the whole team. We did a workout because we were running the 4xmile on Friday at the St. Anthonys invitational and originally we were going to go to the meet on monday but then it got rained out until tuesday and then again changed to wednesday...that is the only reason we did not go was because we had planned the week out already and the meet kept getting pushed back.
| KMerberPosts: 31Location: Join Date: December 7, 2007 11:59 PMSend Message | I started laughing at the coverage of St Anthony's. It is probably the best LI meet of the year and it got nothing.lol | |
| mcfanPosts: 19Location: Join Date: January 28, 2008 3:16 PMSend Message | To WM: if it was only 4 runners, then ok. I was of the opinion that it was more-especially considering the score. Thanks for the kudos. I hope we can live up to that honor. To Kyle: Amen. For such a great meet to be ignored is a real shame. Maybe if we keep writing and shouting Newsdsay will hear. We all should e-mail the editor as I have been doing since last year. If Newsday is Long Island's paper, then it should cover the sport with the most participants. Yesterday, they missed the boat again. Brock's accomplishment was a great individual effort, But maybe if they were in tune, they would have covered the MC - Longwood meet. Two powerhouses slugging it out right to the end. Barry doing his thing and Myles his. It came down to the LAST relay- won by MC. Thanks to all participants for providing a very entertaining meet. Floyd vs MC on Tues should be fun- with Myles and Brock head to head. | |

| SECTIONXI08FANPosts: 13Location: Join Date: April 21, 2008 5:37 PMSend Message | One of the best dual meets of the year was at Longwood the other day. I know MCFAN was very excited as MC won by 6 in League 1 the biggest and best league Suffolk. These two teams have great coaches and plenty of great athletes but my hats is off to MC. They have everything but could use a couple more distance runners. They have a strong athlete for every event and for some 3 or 4 great athletes. Good Luck to these 2 great teams at Divisions and state quals. In case anyone is looking for meets coming up.. hint hint Newsday... Here are a few this weekend starting today North Shore Invitational These are where ALL AMERICANS will run and State and National champs, not like the other sports, who have ALL County and ALL Long Island. Everyone deserves the same recognition when it comes to amateur ahtletics. Good Luck to all this weekend and do your best cause you never know some one must just be there to take a picture of you or print an article. Cmon Newsday How bout a page, half on Loucks and half on North Shore, not on one team or runner but on all the top runners and winners and record breakers. Small pictures too not most of the page.lol Thank you for this site and hopefully for your articles come sunday morning |
