Is this meet big enough for Newsday to cover? They don't even have to attend, although it would be nice if they did. They can click on the link below and see the results. Could it be any easier?

http://ny.milesplit.us/meets/32546/articles The Glenn D. Loucks Games, one of the largest outdoor track and field competitions in the country, has been branded. Meet director and former White Plains track coach Fred Singleton officially announced Tuesday that New Balance will be the leading sponsor for this year’s meet held May 8-10 at White Plains High School.

I guess with today's weather we can assume Newsday won't be covering the Loucks Games. It is a shame because the athletes were out there competing in the rain.

Hey!!! Lakes??? Funny you said We all were wrong by putting our opinion about what gets put in the paper and Newsday not covering St anthonys or Adkins. Funny thing is on here there was about 4 people who type in and mentioned Loucks and Northshore. Then that was exactly what was in the paper a few days later. Anyone who knows what meets are good are going to be there already watching or competing.

The kids want to see their names, times, and places, not where the meet is. Anyone interested already knows where the meet is and what they are about.  Also it does seem alittle coincidence that our blogs are like word for word what the paper is a few days later.  I know they wrote it.lol I guess when they were doing their research the frogot about the Boys Suffolk County Relays at Bayport Bluepoint. Cmon its on the same schedule???

Tomorrow hopefully will have some names, times, and places since many will do great, one already being Gio from Smithtown who ran a 9:16.86 in the 3200 and placed 3rd. WIll Kearns of Westhampton also ran a 9:35,3200. Many other great races and times and dont worry you can use our information.lol

Also I know we do it for football when Newsday posts all the kids going on to college.  It would be nice to show Long Island in the printed section that there are 100's, not a few, but 100's of kids going on to run in Division 1 and 2 on scholarships and in the Ivy League from this island.  I have seen 2 people printed in Newsday 2 times already where they are going to college for track and xc. Both great runners, students, and people and they signed awhile ago not this week, but cmon what about the other 400 runners on Long Island????

Congrats to Kyle Merber 4:12.81 for the 1600 at Loucks. Another first place for the 1600.

Congrats to Bobby Andrews as well also  at Loucks in the 1600 with a personal best of 4:16.01.

I know this year isnt even close to being over but everyone better watch out for SWR and Bobby Andrews next year in XC and the mile and 2 mile. Yes hes only a Jr and their top 5 in XC are all coming back!!!!!!

At the Loucks meet there were great performances by both the boys and girls from Long Island. On the boys side there were about 65 teams and 5 teams from Long Island finished in the top 20 and on the girls side there were about 72 teams and 6 teams from Long Island finished in the top 20. All the athletes from Long Island who participated in this meet deserve to be recognized by Newsday as this was a highly competitive meet.

AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT. LOOK AT KYLE AND BOBBY'S 1600 AND JACLYN, EMILY, AND SUEJIN'S 1500'S. THE 800'S AND STEEPLES AND ALL THE RACES AND EVENTS.

EVERYONE RAN AND COMPETED GREAT IN ALL EVENTS TODAY. WAY TO GO EVERYONE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE MAY BE THERE TO WRITE AN ARTICLE.

What a surprise Newsday did not even mention the Loucks games in the sports section today. Well they did say that Brianna Welsch blew away the field because a lot of the girls that she usually competes against were not there. Where were they Newsday? They were at Loucks! The article on the North Shore meet was a good one. They did include a few winning times and gave some other athletes some print time at the end of the article. But in most other sports they cover more then one game. I don't understand why they could not send someone up to White Plains to cover the Elite event?

The Loucks games was a very large meet that Newsday failed to cover knowing so many Long Island High School runners were competing. One story from Long Island that would have been a great story to cover would be about the young lady from Elmont Memorial High school who is a 8th grade varsity sprinter who qualified #2 with a 24.93 in the 200 meter and finished 3rd amongst seniors, juniors and sophmores.  In case anyone from Newsday reads this her name is Valencia Hannon.

Do you know what the best thing about track is? Everyone competes. With most other sports half the team stands on the sidelines and never see any playing time. And a lot of those kids are really good athletes. But with track, whether the kid is the fastest or the slowest on the team, they get to compete. No kid is ever told they are not good enough. How many adults run in the NYC marathon or the Long Island marathon or any number of local races and they say "I finished"? It is not always about winning. It can be about training, participating, and finishing. What a shame that Newsday fails to recognize these student athletes.

Great job Valencia!  A couple of other underclassman from Garden City (there probably were many others) had great days at the Loucks.  Eight grader Molly Josephs WON the 1600m race walk with a terrific time of 8:01, even in the torrential rain that soaked the field and its competitors.  She did get some nice coverage on News 12 on Friday evening.  Then on Saturday, freshman Michelle Rotondo medaled by finishing fourth in the Pentathlon with over 2800 points. She ran a 2:20 winning the 800m to close out the event. By the way, 2nd and 3rd were also from LI - Farath Raphael from HHH East and Lauren McGrath from SWR, making it 3 out of the top 4 spots from LI in probably the toughest event (actually 5).

Looks like Long Island has some very talented youngsters to watch out for in the coming years.

SJB boys sophmores run 3:30 4 x 400 at CHSAA Frosh Soph intersectionals, and break 19 year old meet record.

And where was Newsday?

mcfan

Who knows?  Maybe the sale to real Long Islanders will change the inertia at Newsday regarding track. It's good to see more and more are finding this forum and posting. I am enjoying the comments and info. To Shotstopper: your comments exemplify why more choose to do track than any other HS sport. If you can run or jump well ,you get to compete. No politics or idiotic coaches decisions will stop that. And even those at the "B" level can enjoy the competition and get self satisfaction with improvement and PB's. To eagl, jmich and mlady: isn't it great to watch young runners improve and compete at such a high level?  We will all be watching-even if Newsday doesn't.
COACH214

How bout some love for Louis Day of Holy Trinity.  He is tearing up the throws this season, winning both the Shot and Discus at the Loucks Games, and the week before winning the invitational Shot Put a the St. Anthony's Invitational.  He is destroying his competition.
mcfan

Great. Keep posting names and accomplishments so that we can contrinue to follow them and to look for them at meets. But SHAME ON YOU NEWSDAY!!!!! 3 pages of HS sports and just 2 blurbs on girls track. The League I show down with Brock vs Miles could have been a great story. MC vs Floyd was wonderful with Floyd taking the early lead thanks to Brock almost jumping out of the stadium in long jump. Brock took the jumps but Miles took the races. Floyd battled hard but could not keep up with the depth of MC. Congrats to all members of MC track, Coach Soto and staff on Div I champs. Also congrats to all members of Northport track, Coach Gilmartin and staff in finally wresting the Div II from Bayport.  See you all at Counties
KMerber

A loaded league IV finished out their dual meets today

Hills West and Bellport TIE! with smithtown west coming very close to upsetting both teams in their dual meets.

What about Kadeem Howell from Manhasset High school. This indoor season he was all-state, all-federation and an all american and he recent won the triple jump at both St. Anthony's and Locuks but newsday still fails to mention him at all. Amire Soloman of St. John got a full article during the winter but Kadeem beat him everytime they competed in the indoor and outdoor season this year. How come newsday isn't talking about him his PR's are 46'7"in the triple and 22'7" in the long.

      Does anyone know.........

Where I can find a printable and up to date version of the Suffolk County outdoor track records since they all seem to be smudged together on the section xi website for the boys?  Its difficult to read and I know some of the records are not updated.

How accurate is the girls page for suffolk county records on the section xi website?

**** GOODLUCK TO ALL TEAMS ATHLETES AND COACHES AT FRESH AND SOPH MEET, DIVISIONS, STATE QUALS, STATES, AND NATIONALS******

***THE NEXT SUFFOLK COUNTY ALL TIME RECORD THAT MAY FALL IS THE 3000 STEEPLE WHICH IS LISTED AT 9:26.5, BY DAN STEVENSON OF LONGWOOD IN 1994, WHICH I CAN BARELY SEE AND I BELIEVE THAT RECORD HAS BEEN BROKEN A FEW YEARS AGO BY SOMEONE WITH A TIME OF 9:23.***

GIOVANNI SIGNORETTI OF SMITHTOWN, AT 9:36.75 AND BARRY FRANKLIN OF LONGWOOD AT 9:40.24, HAVE NOT RUN AGAINST ONE ANOTHER IN THIS EVENT AND WILL BOTH HAVE A SHOT AT THIS RECORD WHEN GOING AT IT TOGETHER.   GREAT RACE FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.....
