Following up their 4th consecutive County T&F Championship they have 8 girls going to States next week. In the group are a 7th grader, an eight grader, two freshman, two sophmores and two seniors - what a future this team has. The 4x400 (Catherine Cafaro, Taryn Schmelzinger, Brooke Senken and Emily Menges) and 4x800 (Aoi Nishamura, Jenna DeAngelo, Maddie Adams and Emily Menges), Emily Menges in the 800 and Michelle Rotondo in the pentathlon. Pretty good showing not to have been mentioned but at least there was an article to talk about - Good Luck to all Section VIII'ers in Buffalo. |

Although Newsday will give only so much space to T&F, some mention should have been made of GC girls. It's a great accomplishment and deserves some recognition. Thanks for the info and we will be watching those young ladies for years. Suffolk Div coverage was a joke, but State Qual coverage was much better- a FULL PAGE!!!! Congrats to all who will be shuffling off to Buffalo after surviving the brutal conditions on Sat. I enjoyed every minute of it( and lost a few pounds). It was great watching Suffolk's best but I wish there was a more accessible 8 lane track somewhere. It also was nice that Mr Lewis finally got recognized. He surely deserved it and happens to be one of the nicest kids you ever want to meet. Also Mr Haney and Coach Soto earned their Newsday accolades. Good luck to all in Buffalo. |
