Sam Mo can place top 10 in breast or IM if he wants. Adam Chang seems to want to swim fast again. GNS looks to be the team to beat. LB is making its usual run and who knows how the Jayhawks will respond to a poor week.....Saturday should be a great indicator of how Counties will shape up.
Anyone have thoughts of Suffolk or CHSAA??

I was actually looking at times from a couple years ago (He went a 50.1 for his 100 and 1:49 for his 200 in 10th grade..what happened to this kid?)..However, I wish I knew more about CHSAA but Newsday fails to cover them as usual so I don't have the adequate knowledge of that league...Aside the usual powerhouses (Fordham Prep, Chaminade, Iona Prep)..I'd look out for Holy Trinity for a bit if a surprise this year...They can make some noise in a couple of events. Look out. As for Suffolk, HHH loooks impressive/strong already as usual, I'm not sure who can really challenge them in suffolk champs. As for Nassau, I feel like it's been more exciting the past 3 or 4 years being that Garden City was always built for county championships...not dual meets so they usually gave LB a run for their money. As for this years county champs...will Junior Nick Smith of LB take the diving county title over james o'neil? Where's lb's old plethera of divers? That's always LB's strongpoint...gaining an extra 30 points from diving (in counties). I think the race of the meet will be the 200 freestyle between Cerra, Spinella, Nickey of CSH, and One June. I think we're gonna see sub 1:43, 1:42 swims? Is anybody ELSE interested in hs swimming?
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Watch for Jericho to come back strong after a shaky week of the loss to GNS that probably carried over to eastern states...They are going to make a statement at counties...I think the pressure just got to them swimming @ GNS in unfamiliar territory. Gonna be one heck of a county championship, two weeks to go! | |
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Can the Jayhawks out score LB and GNS??? I think it will come down to where the 3 coaches put their top guns. Can GNS go after all 3 relays at counties the way LB did last year? Can Jericho sneak in a win in the medley or the 200? WIll LB somehow go 1:29 again? How does Woody Davis do it? The 200 will be the race of the weekend. One June, Nickey, Spinella, Cerra (all LIAC swimmers by the way). Will anyone challenge Lennon in the 500? Will he be the only one under 5:00?? Will Adam do the Backstroke? Can Solomon give the Jayhawks the boost in that event? Who will win the breast? Will OJ do it? GNS has so many other weapons that it seems a waste to use him there. MO will win it in a walk. THen you throw in Ching, Yoo and Park thats a leathal combo! Can Jericho find some magic in Peng, Patrick, Kiriazis?

| jayhawkswimfanPosts: 5Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 10:55 AMSend Message | jericho is one of the strongest, deepest teams in the county. and im aware ive advertised myself heavily as being affiliated with the jayhawks so no need for the comments regarding that. but one bad week at GNS and all of a sudden the jayhawks are nothing? they ended a 57 meet winning streak for the what 6x defending county champs, that GNS meet was a fluke the jayhawks are just so deep all across the board. they wont go down without a fight, eveyone seems to forget who the number 1 team in the county was. think on that haters. | |
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | JayHawk You do make valid points but I have to disagree with some of the things you said. First off, LB had no chance facing you guys at home...From what I heard, the meet was over from the start. 12 Medley? 123 200 free? 124 200 im? I do agree that there is a reason Jericho was ranked #1 from the start...They say you learn alot more from losing than winnning. In this case Jericho is going to come out strong. Although some are giving LB credit, LB seems to only have sprinters and a FEW offstrokers..they'll be lucky to come in 3rd. The only thing that stands out is that they have two flyers who go 57? Anyone ever heard of Chris Corrigan? Is he related to LB's flyer from last year..Tim Corrigan? Why didn't this kid start swimming earlier? This county meet will most likely come down to the 100 breast/400 free relay where both teams are very strong in...however having GNS drop a 3:15 is hard to beat..Jericho's got heart, maybe that's what will make the difference in the county championship. | |
| chriscrutcherfanPosts: 10Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 5:30 PMSend Message | Am i imagining things or do the results from eastern states show that Adam Chang swam the 45.9 in the 400 fr relay? | |
| GNSrebelfanPosts: 15Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 6:48 PMSend Message | No I think one june chang swam anchor. Might be a misprint/typo. Hey what about Bellmore/Merrick? I heard they were winning against LB after the diving. Think they might be a sleeper? | |
| GNSrebelfanPosts: 15Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 6:48 PMSend Message | I also think that GNS and Jericho will be going for it all at counties. Prediction Long Beach will be 4th at Counties. Might be a sleeper for third place. Although I did see that Nash from LB dropped 3 seconds in the 100 Fly. Wondering if Davis has any others up his sleeve? It should be an interesting finish. May the best team win. | |
| GNSrebelfanPosts: 15Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 6:48 PMSend Message | NYSswimfan57 St Anthony's and Fordham Prep seem to be the teams to beat in the Catholic School League. Try the nychsaaswimming-diving.org website for the latest scores and times. Holy Trinity and Chaminade are not far behind. Should make for fast times at States | |
| chriscrutcherfanPosts: 10Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 5:30 PMSend Message | wouldn't be surprised if it was a misprint... originally it said patrick yang swam the 45.9 anchor and on the website it says hes a freshman... unless thats a misprint too ![]() | |
| chriscrutcherfanPosts: 10Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 5:30 PMSend Message | Actually Patrick Yang might not have swum that 45.9 but it still looks like he is one of GNS's fastest swimmers.... assuming that this isn't a typo he swam a 22.11 50 free in the medley relay @ eastern states. that's not posted on section 8 top 25 times i'm guessing because its a relay split, but if it was it'd be 2nd after cabasino and 10th in the state. thats not bad for a freshman. | |
| GNSrebelfanPosts: 15Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 6:48 PMSend Message | Actually, Patrick Yang anchored the medley at 22.11...still very respectable for a freshman. One June Chang actually led off the 200 free relay at 22.02. Still think they might not be able to break LB 200 free relay record. It should be close. | |
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Imagine if GNS had all of these swimmers last year? Woulda been one heck of a county championship! | |
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Speaking of freshman, Bellmore-Merrick's Austin Kowalsky looks quite impressive...He's gone 22.2 and 48.9 at a meet in Buffalo...Will the 50 and 100 free be a closer race than we all think? | |
| chriscrutcherfanPosts: 10Location: Join Date: January 27, 2009 5:30 PMSend Message | This just gets more and more interesting... | |
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Here's a question...Will GNS break LB's 400 free relay record last year of 3:12.8? I mean 3:15.85 is very respectable for this point in the year. I feel there is no way they can break LB's 200 free relay because that record absolutely demolished the ones they set in the previous 2 years. There's no way One June wil be able to split his 100 much faster than a 45.9...Who's going to step it up on that relay? Adam Chang? Sam Mo? Let's hear it. | |
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Or how about this...What will GNS do at states? A plethera of talented individual performers? Or the three relay and one individual event per person. Watch out for Jericho to steal the 200 free relay from LB as they must be dissapointed from their past performances...Jericho is hungry to fulfill the expectations that everyone has of them for the season. Jericho is going to come out pumped up and determined to take home their 1st county title. Only two more weeks fellas | |
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | It's true that we have seen some unbelievable times in Section 8 this season already. But let's not forget entirely about the other sections in new york. Frankie Dyer has posted incredible times, but Dan O'Connor of Nottingham in Section 3 is also impressive with 4:34 in the 500. He's been much faster than that at Junior Nationals. He is one of the greatest distance swimmers in the Northeast and he has the ability to challegne Feely and Dyer for that state title. Luchsinger is amazing, but to think that he has a chance of Ricky Henahan's backstroke record is absurd. Luchsinger has not been 49 in the backstroke, so it is unlikely he will go 48. And don't get forget Cory Zorsch from Greece, who finished second at states last year in the 100 fly with 50 point, or Will Brophy from Canadaigua who will probably go 45 in the 100 free shaved and tapered. So what I'm saying is that Section 8 looks promising this year, but don't forget about the other sections that've dominated at the state level for so long, especially Section 5, who has many elite teams including Pittsford. |
