| thesprinterPosts: 4Location: Join Date: January 1, 2008 11:56 AMSend Message | Newsday still has girls swimming scores, schedules, etc. under the swimming banner for high school sports. We're in january. wake up newsday. | |
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Come on Newsday....Emily Kelly is a great story but we are winding down to an exciting finish in both Nassau and Suffolk County dual meets.
Jericho vs Long Beach
Any predictions? Come one newsday 1 article on swimming is not enough!!! Lets get the Top 10! Lets get some more discusion here!
| thesprinterPosts: 4Location: Join Date: January 1, 2008 11:56 AMSend Message | Unless you're talking football, basketball, or some incredible individual accomplishment, Newsday just DOES NOT CARE about swimming and diving. We small sports don't merit a blurb even on the Newsday website, much less print. Girls swimming scores, schedules, and standings are still up. The boys season has received ZERO recognition. Shame on Newsday. It may not matter to them, but Newsday is the major media outlet that chose to include high school sports in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Whether they like it or not, Newsday should be reporting on it. At the very least, transition from girls to boys season. Even if it is 2 MONTHS LATE. | |

| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | anyone else have a problem that the last 2 swim articles are on the accomplishments of CLUB SWIMMERS? I mean i know they are great but there are some other swimmers that newsday could focus on. Or just cover the dual meet season more? How can we get a swimmer to be the N-ZOne athlete? | |
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | anyone else sick of reading about LB?? what about the other teams out there? Why no mention of the catholic schools? Usually they are all over this section?
So who will win??? LB v JER??? WM v HHH??? any one else care but me
| breaststroker92Posts: 1Location: Join Date: January 21, 2008 1:24 PMSend Message | i probably stand alone on this but, i believe jericho can beat long beach and newsday just hasnt recognized them enough, too much talk about LB not enough about the other teams. i would really also like someone to take them down. in the meet i have jericho winning a close one to clinch the Conference 1 title. | |
| swimfan1Posts: 1Location: Join Date: January 21, 2008 2:05 PMSend Message | wm or hhh...dont count out sachem east. put a real scare in wm last week. just a little young but dangerous. probably one year away | |
| thesprinterPosts: 4Location: Join Date: January 1, 2008 11:56 AMSend Message | I want to root for Jericho. But jericho's gonna have to go 2,3,4 in every event LB wins. They'll also have to go 2,3, in both free relays cause no way LB loses those. LB will go 1,2 in diving. A lot of things have to go right for Jericho to take it. Hills goes against Sachem East on tues and Melville on thurs. Busy week. I think its going to be a battle of unbeatens on thurs. Melville will take Hills to the 400 F.R. but Hills comes out on top. Sachem East is an up and comer but not there yet. Melville and Hills are losing tons of talent next year, especially hills. Sachem East might have a shot, but it's a year away minimum. Melville's losing Gao and DaSilva, Hills is losing Windler and Podniesisnki. thats a lot to make up.

| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Can LB win all three relays? Are they that deep?
There are some events that Jericho could sneak a win in.....The diving will hurt jericho...being down 10pts in a dual meet is tough to make up....isnt that LB's senior night? that place will be jam packed!
| jerichoswimfanPosts: 2Location: Join Date: January 24, 2008 11:41 AMSend Message | really newsday update the swimming page! a clash of the 2 best teams in this county is happening in 5 days and you havent written anything about it! The Jericho vs Long Beach meet will be a close meet, diving will make or break the jayhawks, but dont expect that to hold them back from giving the beach a run for their money.... | |
| lymomPosts: 1Location: Join Date: February 3, 2008 9:22 PMSend Message | And how about the (Suffolk) League I Championships on Friday? Not even a mention; only League II. Barely a mention all season. We swim in Suffolk, too! Lindy comes in 11th out of 36 in the Eastern States/Long Island Invitational Swim Meet and no one hears about it. Another sport where these kids bust their butts all week long and get no recognition for it. Come on, Newsday...look past football and basketball. There's a lot more going on! | |
| PattyWagPosts: 1Location: Join Date: February 11, 2008 5:16 PMSend Message | When is someone going to pay attention to the top swimmer right here in nassau county right under your nose, Jack Wagner just smashed the 2002 100 free record by over a second with a 45.47, outrageous swim not to mention the come from behind relays that won both for Holy Trininty, you guys were missing in action on Sunday, all the action was in the pool and you were not reporting it. But, you were there on sat to cover the public school champs, what's up with that, this really makes me angry, where were you ???

| spj08Posts: 1Location: Join Date: February 14, 2008 10:29 AMSend Message | Mrs. Wagner, Jack did swim great on Sunday and congratulations to him on setting the new 100 free record. I have been in touch with Alex Labidou (alex.labidou@newsday.com). He assured me there was going to be coverage in todays online edition in the Swim Insider section. First of all, big deal, right? Where was the coveage on Monday or Tuesday, and secondly, if you have to dig deep into their website for the story and results of the Catholic League Championship, then something is seriously wrong in Newsdayville. Needless to say, I can't find any mention of the meet, the record, or those swimmers who qualified for States online. All we ask for is one day of coverage. The public schools have pages and pages of stories and were prominently featured in Sunday's print edition. I don't get it. I know Newsday talks about writing stories on what sports sell newspapers, their lack of resources in providing coverage, they can only cover what their editors tell them to cover, etc., all sad excuses for the teams and boys who work so hard all year round and yet go unnoticed because "they can't print what they don't have." "We need the coach or coordinator to call in the results." Bull crap. Go cover the Championships. It's one day. You made it there for the Public Schools, why not the Catholic School League? Please email Alex and share your frustration with him. Maybe if enough people contact him they will get the message. | |

Here this kid is one of the hardest working athletes around and I know he got beat but I mean thier was no mentioning how he won all 4 years frshman to senior year in the 500 which is incredible. No mentioning he got all american for the second straight year and bascially jsut i woulda liked to see some respect to a swimmer who many who know the sport have the upmost respect for and apreciate.

Hahahahha take it easy Sean, everyone knows you work hard. However Newsday could care less about your work ethic, or that you won counties in the 500 four years in a row. You can come back by winning the state title, however Ryan Feely is a beast and will probably break the public state record. Hmmm...
