The first 2 weeks of meets are over and nothing....you blew it during girls season.....please do not blow it now. Can you PLEASE switch over to boys season! There are some great teams to look out for this year. Can Long Beach win or will Jericho finally break their streak. Is there another team out there to look for? What about Suffolk. Will HHH be able to win without their top seniors they lost last year?

Anyone else excited to watch what could be the closest Nassau County meet in years??? GNS looks extremely impressive. Can the Jayhawks or Mariners beat them this year? Is there another team to look out for? What about Suffolk? Hills looks extremely good. And in the Catholic league....St Anthony's beat Chamidade?? Come on newsday!

What about mention of 2 time Suffolk Champs Half Hallow Hills????

| freestylefanPosts: 1Location: Join Date: January 1, 2009 5:46 PMSend Message | i agree with you the time spent on swimming is poor esecially when other sports are covered so well. i thought the article last weekend would have covered all the schools including Suffolk. There are a few very good swimmers in every school even if some do not have the depth to compete.

Are the Jayhawks overated or is Hills the real deal??? What bout Great Neck South????? Come on Newsday...will Plainview really have a shot at winning the county this year? Can you focus on the teams that will really make noise!!!!!

For years we've been asking the same questions of Newsday. Now that the boy's swimming season is in full swing how about some exposure/articles on the best individual swimmers on L.I.? We've got quite a few with competitive times for NY state. The focus should be placed on swimmers in public and private schools. Swimming was a major focus nationwide in the Summer Olympics yet continues to be shortchanged with the local media. What gives???????

| Metsrule50Posts: 6Location: Join Date: January 10, 2009 10:59 PMSend Message | GNS looks the strongest right now. Jericho is just under-performing compared to south. | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | So its settled then....according to METS RULE LB and Jericho has no business showing up to a meet against GNS....all be it that GNS is top heavy, do that have the depth that Jericho does to win the county meet. Never never never count LB and Woody Davis out....there is a reason they havent lost in over 5 years | ||
| swimmingpro?Posts: 2Location: Join Date: January 13, 2009 9:19 PMSend Message | actually...long beach got destroyed by jericho.... first 3 events 1,2,3'd ... it wasn't even a fair meet except for cabasino | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | When will Newsday finally realize that swimming is becoming a more popular sport than it ever was? They need to start giving highschool swimming the coverage it deserves for these are possibly the stars of tomorrow. Newsday needs to bring back that top 10 list to bring back that overview of long island swimming and what teams/swimmers are the ones to watch. I saw that LB did get smashed by Jericho but Jericho has incredible depth. I wonder how the GNS vs. Jericho meet will turn out. Incredible amounts of depth on both sides...will it come down to that 400 free relay having One June Chang anchor?? I wouldn't count out LB at counties, they always come up strong in the relays...(watch out 200 free relay? upset Jericho?). Woody Davis will have his boys prepared for the meet, just wait for it... | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Predictions for boys counties? 50 free? 100 free? Another showdown between One June and Cabasino? How about the 200 free?? Cerra has been 1:43.9 and Spinella has been 1:44.0, as well as One June Chang has been 1:43.9 already as well. Watch out for the 200 free...going to be one heck of a race. Will Cerra pull another miracle? 1:40s!?!? How about the relays?? | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | There are plenty of races to look out for this season. You have the 200 free that for the past 2 seasons has been the best race of the meet. With Spinella, OneJune, and Nick Cerra more than likely doing that event, who will win the IM?? Will anyone challenge Cabasino in the 50? The chess match begins with the relays...the county meet will more than likely come down to the relay combinations...Can GNS make a serious run at the Long Beach 400 free relay record? You have OneJune anchoring anything is possible.... Any other races to look out for?? Spinella going to be challenged in back? Mo or Peng in the breast? Can anyone besides Lennon go under 5:00 at counties?? What about suffolk or catholic? Swimming isnt just a nassau sport | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Truthfully, I haven't been following suffolk too much as I find that their more impressive swims come late around their county championships...As for catholic schools, be on the lookout for Jack Wagner who may possibly break the state 50 and 100 free records if he even swims those events...Wagner went 1:37.7 200 free, 45.03 100 free, and 20.89 50 free so far this year. Watchout for a possible dual for the ages in the 200 free at NYS Champs: Wagner vs. Luchsinger (1:38.02 meet in pennsylvania). Will we see two swimmers under 1:38? That would truly be remarkable and a race to remember. I feel HHH will easily be at the top again although losing some star seniors, they'll come around. Will Holy Trinity be a small but loud voice in the catholic school champs? I mean they have a sophmore who goes 1:46 200 free...possible 400 free relay threat? As for the 400 free relay at Nassau Champs, LB set the bar pretty high with a 3:12...although One June will most likely anchor at a 46, where are his other 3 team mates? Haven't seen any under 51 so far this year. | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | The 200 should be a great race, but remember, GNS will be battling Jericho for the county title....maybe One June doesn't do the 200 free. He can win any race at counties he wants EXCEPT that one and the 50. In both of those races he has serious compeition. THis weekend should be a good one to watch with all the MLK meets. All the LIAC, EXPRESS, and OWA swimmers have meets agianst each other. Next Thursday....battle of unbeatens...Jericho v GNS...should be fun | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Looking at the results on the section 8 website, Long Beach got beat pretty bad again but this time by Great Neck South. It seems that Jericho and GNS are very strong in similar events (200 free, 200 IM, 100 breast, and all thee relays), as this is what hurt LB the most (aside the 200 free relay) and of course GNS having the ability of One June Chang to swim wherever he wants. Here's a question..what do you think Spinella's gonna swim? Will he go for the Nassau 100 back record? He's been at 52.2 at a meet so far (That bests Ahern's 52.98), or will he challenge One June, Cabasino, and possibly Kowalsky in the 100 free? I'd lookout for strong relays, I wouldn't be surprised if LB snuck a win in that 200 free relay...Do you think Jericho can go udner 1:30? Is anyone going to challenge Lennon in the 500 free? So many questions, so many possible great races...I'm looking forward to the battle of unbeatens Jericho and GNS...it may come down to that 400 free relay having One June anchoring. Who's going to win? | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Spinella hasnt done the 200 free yet this season...could he be going for the IM and a county title? | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | i retract my earlier post...he did the 200 free and went 2:01.... | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Yeah well Spinella has been 1:44.0 at a liac meet in buffalo...he'll prob do that time around counties when he squares off against cerra and one june. 2:01 at a dual meet with not much significance...wait till the meets start to count and you'll start seeing fast times |
