I'm interested in any feedback for predictions....Think about it...... who is going to be the dominant swimmer? Any potential surprises? Is there anyone who can beat OJC? Any team that can beat GNS? OJC and the gang look too good to beat.
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | Well I think along with OJC, the dominant swimmers will probably be Jack Wagner, Thomas Luchsinger, and Frankie Dyer. Perhaps Dan O'Connor from Section 3 will make things even more interesting. OJC is good, but it really depends on what he swims at states. If he swims the 200 free, I will be surprised of he beats out Luchsinger, who went 1:39 last year and can go faster. OJC is probably favored to win the nys public title in the 100 free, but jack wagner from holy trinity is still the favorite to win it overall, he's been 45 and has a shot at breaking the state record. GNS has some very talented swimmers, but I'm not sure if they have the depth to win a team state title. | ||

If you really want to talk about who will be the best individual swimmers let's not forget about the likes of Krause, Wagner, Panzarino, Wallace or the relay team of Fordham Prep. These local swimmers are all extremely competitive. As a matter of fact Wagner was the only LI swimmer to win two events at States last year in the 100F and 50F.

Overall, I say GNS places 3rd at states...For the simple reasons of depth that some teams have a lot more of and they don't have diving like LB did. Yeah OJC will give Wagner a run for his money in the 100 but Wagner has consistently been 45 according to the meets he's been at. I feel that the race of the meet (Don't scold me, this race I find to be interesting..swimmers pushing it for all 20 laps) may very well be the 500 depending on who swims it (Feely, Dyer, O'Connor). Are we going to see 3 people under 4:30!? As for state champs, we may find a surprise for the winner. Does anybody think section 8 will take home the title? Are they not deep enough?
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Look at states last year and then look this year. LB finished 2nd last year with 2 dominant relays and 3 dominant swimmers. GNS does not have that. Yes they will win the 400free, MAYBE, but their medley and 200free are just OK on the state level. Lutschinger will win the 200, Wagner will win the IM, Cabasino will win the 50, Wagner will win the 100, Cerra will finish in the top 3 for the fly, Lutschinger and SPinella will finish 1/2 in the back. Overall Long ISland, not just section 8 or section 11 or CHSAA, will have a great showing! | ||
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | Section 8 will have a very strong showing at states this year and perhaps one of their greatest years in a while. But I just don't see them winning states. Most of their swimmers will qualify for the top 10 finals, but they won't have many people in consolation finals for the depth that is needed. Section 8 is also one of the smallest sections there is. Only if section 8 and 11 were combined...
It's very hard to predict team results for states. It's just too close to call. Last year Section 3 was favored to completely dominate everyone, but they ended up losing to Section 6, which was barely even in the picture. And most of the sections haven't had their championship meet yet, so it's still a while before real predictions can be made.
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Um did anyone see the section 1 results from nbsharks.com HOLY CRAP!! They have 2 relays that went 3:11. Their entire final heat of the back made the state cut PLUS 2 in the bonus heat. Feeley went 4:26 and 1:39!! Watch out Lutschinger!! For all the talk we have been having about how good section 8 is....I am sorry to say but from the looks of it section 1 is the area to beat! http://www.section1swim.com/Results/BoysHS/2009/Sec1/Meet.htm | ||
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | Yeah, I saw them. I wasn’t surprised by the 500 because feely is amazing at distance events, he was ranked first in the 1500 meters freestyle in the nation this summer for sixteen year olds. but 1:39 state record in the 200 was quite a surprise. He only took out the first 100 in a 48, but came back in a blistering 51. his back-half is real strong luchsinger and feely in the 200 will probably be one of the greatest race ever at states. They have different race strategies, and it’s probably going to come down to if luchsinger can hold off feely or if feely can catch luchsinger on the 100. | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Ryan Feely is going to be the swimmer of the meet. Too bad they do not give it to a catholic school swimmer, because Jack Wagner would give a run...although is there a guarantee he wins the 100? Is he doing the IM or the 50? He did the IM at catholic champs.

| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Wagner will most likely do the 200 im, he's been 1:49 so he may try and break that record. With so many other sections having their championships coming up, it's going to be exciting to see what happens. Three more weeks | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | This may easily be one of the most anticipated states in years! Come March 6th and 7th, we are going to see some of the most exciting swims ever. Can't wait to see the results of the other section championships; then we're going to really see how fast this states is going to be. | ||
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | Section 3 had their championship meet on Thursday. West Genessee went a 1:35.69 in the 200 medley relay, just over half a second above the state record. And the scary thing is that none of the swimmers on the relay are graduating this year. Theres two juniors and two sop****res. Dan O'Connor went 1:57 the in the 2 IM and 4:36 in the 500, not very impressive at all, but expected without tapering and shaving. Pat O'Donavan from Auburn went 50.15 in the 100 back. NYS is going to be a swimming powerhouse this year for the first time in a while. | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Anyone have results from other meets. I wonder if Lutschinger rebroke Feely's record??? | ||
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | Section 5 had their championship. The full results aren't up yet, but it looks like they're very deep. They have 10 teams and 28 swimmers going to states. The times weren't as fast as Section 1 or 8, but the depth is very impressive. Section 5 is sending 5 400 free relays to states. Cory Zorsch from Greece went 46.69 in the 100 free and 52.43 in the 100 back. Other than that, there weren't really a lot of star individual performances. | ||
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | It looks like Luchsinger just smashed the state record in the 200. He went 1:37.72 in the 200 and 49.54 in the 100 fly. Pittsford 2-relay went 1:27.2 | ||
| NYSSwimfan57Posts: 37Location: Join Date: January 14, 2009 9:42 PMSend Message | Holy $h!T, these results from section champs are getting better and better. This is probably going to be one of the fastest states NYS has ever seen. Wow, the top 15 people in the 100 free are under 48...When's the last time you've seen a race that close? The race of the meet will either be the 200 free or the 500 free. 200 free: Luchsinger (1:37), Feely (1:39), Dyer (1:39) WOW! 500 free: Feely (4:26), Dyer (4:31), O'Connor will go under 4:32.
Get ready for one heck of a meet guys. Three more weeks, hang in there. The anticipation is killing me.
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | Amazing this is....amagine if Wagner was to do the 200free...the top 4 guys could potentionally go under 1:39...from a state to have no one ever go under 1:40 to now the top 3...SICK....my bet is still on section 1 to win it all..... | ||
| nassauswimfanPosts: 61Location: Join Date: December 10, 2007 7:51 PMSend Message | O and by the way...i retract my swimmer of the meet prediction.....I truly believe Lustchinger will break the 200 (again) and the 100fly record....thus winnning swimmer of the meet | ||
| NYSPHSAASwimmerPosts: 13Location: Join Date: January 28, 2009 2:04 PMSend Message | Yeah, Sectionals has never been this fast. I'm not surprised though, I mean look at Luchsinger, Feely, Wagner, Dyer, and O'Connor. Luchsinger and Feely swam at the Olympic Trials this summer. Luchsinger was ranked number one in the 200 fly for seventeen year olds and Feely was ranked number one in the 1500 free for sixteen year olds. Wagner is ranked nationally in the top ten for multiple events. Dyer is just fast, and O'Connor has probably the biggest potential as a junior. With all those elite swimmers, you have to be expecting fast times. But the 200 free this year at states will be crazy, perhaps even better if Wagner decided to swim it. Feely will probably win the 500, but don't count out Dyer and O'Connor. The 100 will be close, but Wagner should be able to pull it off. He's the only swimmer who's been under 46 in the state. As for Swimmer of the Meet, Luchsinger may be the frontrunner (only because Catholic swimmers aren't taken into consideration), but Feely has a chance, too, because he is part of two relays that could potentially win the state title. | ||

Wagner, Luchsinger and Feeley will be swimming the 200 free; Wagner, Braden Clarke and One June Chang will be swimming the 100 free; Wagner, Luchsinger, Yeager, Krause and Cerra will be swimming 200 IM; Luchsinger and Feeley will be swimming the 500 free; Wagner, Cabasino and Chang will be swimming the 50. Should be fun. |
