They have two strong foils (Phillipou and Pauley), a good epee team, and one good sabre and coach Retzkin has really improved the team that won the Nassau County Championship last year. But, Great Neck South, Great Neck North, Jericho, and Oyster Bay all have a good shot at upsetting them. South has two good foils (Phillips and Healy), one strong epee (Fischler), and two good sabres (Tinaro and Klepner); North has a balanced epee and sabre team and one good foil; Jericho has one good foil (Zheng), one OK foil, one strong epee (Greenfield) and two strong sabres; and I am not sure about Oyster Bay, but they beat Great Neck South.

Oyster Bay also beat Jericho in the 2nd meet(1-1) on the year. Oyster Boys, lol, also have a Strong foil team led by Collins and a nice trio for epee, maybe not the best, but, a unique group. Very dangerous as all three have very different styles. I see Garden City, GNS, GNN, and OB in the final four, depending on how the seeding goes for the playoffs.

And since it's been OB and GNN in the finals the last 3 years, might as well keep riding that horse. they've swaped the championship every other year. GNN, then OB, then GNN again, guess it's OB's turn again, lol. We shall see. Either way, I think they're will be some very good qtr, semi, final matches.

fyiits been GNN. GNN,GNN then OB and back to GNNits going to be intersting to see who goes off into finalsthe Great neck south meet agains North could screw things up though Thanks for the fyi. Either way. whoever wins the nassau championships it don't a hill o' beans if they can't knock Ward-Melville of that pedestal. Maybe for a goof next year all the top best of the best in Nasau all move to one school; a lottery will decide wich one; A Nasau dream team. haha whoooh a litle too much red bull, monster beverages tonight. Although A thought it would be goff if last year Putterman, Pearlman, and Shore were all on the same team. Imagine being the number 4 behind that line-up. I beleive GC will finish 8-2; then it gets really weird. If South girls beat North and OB beats CSH before the 27th bout then they all might finish 7-3. Not sure about CSH's record though. Imagine that. tuesday match's on both boys and girls sides can move team from 2nd to 5th or vice versa. If south boys lose then they'll be 7-3 along with OB(if they beat CSH) and Jericho already finished at 7-3. They may end up as the 5th seed. eeegadst!! However, if the old lady crosses the road before she sings after the bells ring before 7pm then all bets are off. Tomuch red bull. errr

I have to agree. Judging by the Brentwood meet (that many Nassau teams were not able to make) and the JO Qualifiers, the Suffolk teams (mainly Ward-Melville and Brentwood) are clearly deeper and stronger than any Nassau team. Even the strongest Nassau schools may have only one or two fencers in each weapon who could compete against the top Suffolk fencers. An all-star Nassau team against an all-star Suffolk team might be somewhat more intersting. The GNN vs GNS meet tonight has many playoff ramifications in both boys and girls playoffs.

On the boys side: GC, GNS, and JER all advance. OB upsets North, again. Gold medal between GNS and GC. OB beats JER for the BRonze. In the Girls draw...GNN, CSH, and OB advance. GC upset by a fired up Hew. OB and CSH for the Gold. North beats HEW for the Bronze. And CSH pulls out a tough one against division rival OB. Or not.

And of GNS's 2 losses one of them is to OB. Although, I imagine JER is going to be a bit fired up should that match-up happen. Hey, any given Saturday.
| TeleFoilPosts: 44Location: Join Date: January 12, 2008 7:48 PMSend Message | I agree GC will win the gold. But, stranger things have happened. Curious though. does anyone know if the number 1 seed had ever lost in the qtr finals in either Boys or girls teams? | |

Foil: Advantage Oyster Bay. So, let's call those two a wash. That leaves it to Epee then. I'd call that to close to call. Could go either way. the two may not even face each other. The 6 seed team might knock Jericho out of it, lol. Or North holds it's ground against OB. I would not be the least bit surprised if the 8,7,6,5 seeds knock out the top 4. I can't figure this season out. I'll just wait and see.

GNN vs OB should be a very close match, as it has been for the last coupl of years. theyv sort of got a litl rivalry goin on now that they face each other in playoffs once again after last year when a better team (than this year's team) lost to OB due to a certain, thick glassed, old gangly, prone to memory lapses and has an apparent problem of not being able to realize wat happens under his nose. The notorious ref is obvioulsy BERNIE who has created his own excitement thru out the nassau county league with his apparently random calls and rules that he makes up on a whim. Going bak to ur other point, i realy dont see wheatley beatin jericho. so count on jericho to be at the final rounds on saturday. on the case of ur matchups, i defintely agree with everythin u see. The jericho saber squad has proven itself to be the best sabre squad in nassau for the past 3 or so years. When u hav fields and leung finishing 2nd and 1st in the individuals, who both also were slected as members of the all county first team, and combine that with their "worst" fencer who finishd in the top 8, and u got one of the top sabre squads in all of long island. I gotta believe that OB will win the fight in foil due to jericho only habin one good foil who also finished in the top 6. (4th or 3rd i think) So it will coem down to epee. this week is gonna be nuts and there could be defeinietly some surprises to who is gonna show up on saturdy at the OB (who i think r hostin?)
| PisteoffPosts: 10Location: Join Date: February 2, 2008 10:17 PMSend Message | If it comes down to Epee between OB and Jericho, it will be over before it starts. Jericho will win easily. Why? Because they have three very strong Epee's, and one of their best Epee's doesn't even start. Greenfield is good for 3 wins. Park, who came in 6th at individuals is much stronger than everybody thinks. He is good for 2 wins. Roach is good, and will probably beat Park, but thats only 1 out of 3. Then theres Jericho's hold back who is not a starter. I watched this kid (he's in 7th grade) fence everyone at individuals. He went 2-0 against Rayson Hong (GNS) 2-0 against Matt Mordvin (Ind), lost to Nicky Patcha 5-4, and went 1-1 against Karson Miller (GNN). He went 3-2 in both sets of prelims, better than the other 3 wins in the second prelims because they all went 2-3 in their first prelims. (Philippou-GC), (Park-JHS) and (Jay Liu-GNN) who ended up 6,7 and 8th. He could go 3-0 against the whole OB squad, but lets assume Roach can beat him. That would be Epee Jericho 7- OB 2. Jericho's Sabre squad will probably go 7-2 as well. Even if OB foil goes 9-0 it doesn't matter. | |
| TeleFoilPosts: 44Location: Join Date: January 12, 2008 7:48 PMSend Message | That is most likely right. the first time they met it was a white wash favor of Jericho. But, one other little tid bit. OB boys...5-0 on the road this year. Too bad they're hosting the counties. Although it's at the high school not the middle school. So, could be considered an away venue, lol. ![]() |
