The Commack squad of Sam Austin, Paul Schulman, and CJ Olsen is fierce. As of the Commack/Ward Melville meet of this past thursday, Austin is still undefeated, continuing his high school winning streak that began at the Brentwood Holiday Tournament. Paul Schulman (like Matt Joe) has hit some bad luck on the way. He has picked up a few losses, some because of lazy fencing (a loss to Half Hollow Hills sabre Dan Park) and others from poor directing (a loss to Ward Melville's Pete Freiss that Schulman would have won if not for a number of dismal calls). CJ Olsen, while not at the same level as Austin or Schulman, is still a very capable high school fencer and I can see making Second Team All-County. Ward Melville has Pete Freiss, who has also picked up a loss here and there, one against Commack's Austin, another from Newfield's Rabinowitz, but should still be expected to be First Team alongside Austin and Schulman. A few other noteworthy sabre fencers are Kevin Nguyen of Centereach, Nino Prodigalidad of Newfield, and possibly Joe Babinski of Whitman and Alex Russo of Hills.

I was Matt Joe at the quad this weekend. I agree with you. He is very very good.

They run hot and cold, but, their team is doing great this year. somone else picked them to win it all in NAssau. Girl sabres, Curry, Tringa, Kenn, and that little Cyrana is fun to watch. Saw her at the Coliseum in Rome about 2000 years ago. She thrusted two sabers to the gladiators chest pulled it out then tok his block off. then thru the sabres in the stands and...Wait I'm sorry that was the movie Gladiator with Russell Crowe. I get them confused sometimes.
