If Robert P. was the head of the Nassau coaches last year, somebody else this year, and there are several different rulebooks flying around and being applied, then WE have a problem that bickering will not solve. The problem is that fencing in Nassau at the high school level is nowhere near as organized as is Suffolk. This does ultimately hurt kids. Every Suffolk HS result is posted at Newsday.com, they even have posted standings. Nassau, no standings, and minimal results are reported. Why? Because Nassau lacks organization. I understand that some of the coaches try to take the bull by the horns, but it hasn't, and isn't working. We need a steering committee of coaches, parents, school administrators, etc.... to work with the governing body in Nassau (Section VIII) so all information, from coaches first aid certification, to what rules will be followed, as well as a "method" to detrmine disputes are decided on and disseminated. I suggest a website, on behalf of Nassau County HS Section VIII Fencing, where rules, requirements and results can be posted and relied on. If everyone feels as passionately about this sport as is reflected here online, it would be to everyone's benefit. Hey, we can even have some of the private clubs pay $5.00 a month so we can pay for the service fee' for maintaining and hosting the site. Every Nassau high school fencing team can even have their own section about their team which the coaches can upload information on their team, etc..... Its the lack of information that is killing this sport in Nassau County.

Great Idea! I proposed this at one of the season meeting, but it was only noted, not motioned for a vote. I also sent out numerous emails with information about submitting scores, etc. I sent Newsday a press release at the beginning of the season with the schedule, and info for them to cover. I was acting President until the most recent coaches assoc. meeting which was held last Thursday. Since I was not officially a coach this season, the position was turned over. One of the other officers, and other members of the association felt that I should stay in the position of President until I was reinstated as a coach, but it was decided that until that time or another vote for the position, that Mike Kreidman would hold the position. This change only happened the week before Counties, and was told the day of counties that since I was no longer President, I was unable to have input on the decisions that were made Saturday. Unfortunately, it is the President's job to make sure the proper rules and procedures are being communicated and followed. Again, I was unable to preside or assist in that capacity.

Yes, there is an issue with some of the non-season individual honors but why ignore the rest? Many of our fencers don't know or no longer care about the infighting going on. They do care that their achievements and the achievements of their peers are not being recognized.
I only hope that those present tonight at the LI championship will act like professionals and good sportsmen/women. It is the time to mirror the vast majority of our fencers.

Robert, you would make a great "Director" for Nassau County, notwithstanding an official "coaches" title. I think you would do a terrific job with the right kind of support to organize at least the information via a website. I would be willing to assist you with that.
