I believe it was set up to take the place of Empire Games. Senior and Juniors went to final tryout last night at Burns Park in Massapequa. Players were notified of selection by phone call today 7/1. Does anyone know of a website with the final 20 rosters?

I was at the Rising Sop****re tryouts on Tuesday (For Suffolk) and was very impressed with the level of talent there. There are some very good players to watch in the coming years. I wonder what criteria they use to pick the team, specifically on defense. There were quite a few goals scored on both sides, so does that make the defense look weak ? What about a defenseman who completely shuts down a know scorer, but doesn't get a chance to rush the ball upfield. Does anyone know when they are going to announce the final teams ? that is part of these types of tryouts you have to take it upon your self to get looked and to answer to the 2nd part of your quest is they did already the player where called and i know for the rising sr they have a scrimmage agains a CT team next Wed at 5

The rising Sophmores have their first practice on 7/7. The Nassau Suffolk Game will be played on 7/21. There is a tremendous amount of talent involved with this showcase. It will be very interesting to see them all pulled together as a team.

Their pri_k of a coach screwed his kids and refused to tell his players about the event. Some kids from shoreham showed up and weren't allowed in . They were told no application, no tryout. The guy wouldn't budge. But the kids knew going in that the team was already picked. There were a few extra spots needed to be filled in.Those guys who ran it let the kids fend for themselves. There was no coach on the sidelines on the outside field, the kids substituted themselves. They weren't even looking . There was a defensive guy from Comsewogue who had like 6 ground balls, played great, but didn't make it. That soph goalie from Mt. Sinai didn't either. -The ones who did must have been just better than the top save percentage goalie in his division last year. The same crap all over again. I heard a kid who DIDN'T get a phone call for the top 36 went to the 2nd tryout anyway, and they let him in!!! And of course, the coaches son supposedly made it, and he was not good at all.The Middie from Riverhead lit it up at John Burns, but didn't make it . So it just goes to show you that when it comes to these "Select" tryouts- the Select have already been chosen. It doesn't matter how good you are, you just have to have the right connection. Just keep going to tryouts, and maybe you'll get lucky and get noticed. But don't expect much if you're not related to the coach, not on his school team, just simply went there with talent. It's really not enough anymore. It's all politics, all bulls___.

You sound very negative on the event. If Shoreham kids were denied the chance to compete it's not the fault of the people trying to provide a venue for the players who would have competed for a spot on an Empire team. For the Shoreham kids denied a tryout , it's not realistic to expect them to just show up and try out. What would set them apart from anyone else just randomly showing up and expecting a tryout? There were probably a couple of hundred kids between the different age groups, the registration period was open for a while. Allowing people to randomly show up would upset the balance of the teams that were set up. It's unfortunate they were denied a chance to tryout but put the blame where it belongs. As far as the whole argument of the chosen few being selected, no one on the rising senior roster is from a school that either coach is affiliated with. When ever the selection process is subjective the process will always be susceptible to accusation but I think the majority of the coaches there were doing their best to perform honest evaluations. I don't know if they were being paid or not but I don't think they would waste they time off for two nights in the summer just to lend an appearance of legitimacy to an event. I think the people that stepped up and organized the event in the absence of the Empire games sould be commended for trying to do something positive. Yes the players for the most part had to sub themselves and it worked reasonably well . There were some kids that did abuse their playing time and that's unfortunate. What you heard about a player coming back for the 2nd round that wasn't called and what really happened may be two different things. Some tryout. The coaches didn't see all the talent available to them. The shoreham team wasn't there. Their pri_k of a coach screwed his kids and refused to tell his players about the event. If nothing else there were quite a few college coaches there and playing in front of them is always worth the trouble if you're serious about playing college lacrosse whether you make the team or not. You are right about one thing, keep going to the tryouts and maybe you will be noticed but you are wasting your time if you show up without talent.

Yes, the coaches put in their time &commitment. But the end results show their true agendas. I think it may be that there are just too many good players out there & not enough spaces for them. Especially when the "Select " ones are already pre-determined. Does anybody know where you can see the final roster? It sure would be interesting to look at.
| Laxlover111Posts: 6Location: Join Date: May 13, 2009 2:55 PMSend Message | A kid from Rocky Point made the senior team? That kids a joke. No team skills. I saw him play the other night for his H.S. summer team. He never passes, just tries to run thru everyone, and cried when he lost some faceoffs. Luke Miller is ten times the player he is. I said this before, & it looks like nothing has changed .The junior from Riverhead would eat him alive. See my respone to Best defense on the Island . That says it all. I stand by my position even more now, after watching that game. They're thru. No team offense, the attacks couldn,t even catch or pass, falling down, losing the ball, and again ,even in summer ball, he played the same 3 defensive guys who couldn't do it last year. They won't be around long next year. And it looks like since he isn't preparing for the future, the upcoming kids are going to suffer when they finally get on the field. Check my post...I invite all responses. | |

| lax0524Posts: 3Location: Join Date: July 6, 2009 7:25 AMSend Message | Wow, Laxlover111 is really negative. I am the parent of a child who has absolutely no "connections" and he made the rising Sophmore team. My son is just an excellent Lacrosse player - period. It's what he loves to do and his passion shows as does with all the kids I watched play yesterday from both Nassau and Suffolk. Those two teams were perfectly matched up hence the end result of Nassau beating Suffolk by only one point in OT. I agree there are so many talented athletes these days, but not everyone is going to get picked for everything all the time. It's part of being an athlete - Deal with it! I watched both tryouts for the event. Although there were no coaches on the sidelines, these boys are supposed to be team players. In my opinion the kid who doesn't sub himself out to give another player a chance to play is only slighting himself. These coaches know what to look for, they have seen it all before. I watched a kid in first round tryouts who did not come off the field once. Needless to say he was NOT at round two tryouts! He did it to himself, his plan backfired. So like I said earlier, the coaches know what to look for, As far as the coaches who did not nominate their players for the event, not the fault of the event organizers. These organizers give a tremendous amount of their time for the sheer betterment of the sport. I don't know if they get paid or not. As far as I concerend you could not put a dollar amount on what they do for our children and the sport. | |
