If they are not interested in playing top D1, they can still better their game playing with or against True Gold. If they don't want to get better then they should tell the coach that signs them to excuse them from practice because they don't want to get better. If the are not talented enough to play D1 and want to. They are not going to get better by playing with or against D2 competition. In the real world how many of those players are capable of playing TOP D1? You just want to stir the pot.

Agree. For girls who just completed their junior year this summer and the fall are not the time to go to tournaments to "better" their game but to go to tournaments so they can be seen by college coaches at schools where they can play.

If a girl has completed their junior year and has not have had contact with those top D 1 schools then they are not on those schools list of recruits. The summer before your senior year is not the time to get found by those type of schools. They know about you 1 or 2 years before.

I agree with you too, my point is that for girls going into their senior year, this summer and the fall are their last chance to be seen and their focus should be on that and not attempting to better their game against competion and coaches for whom they most likely will never play against, with and for. They should be using this time to be seen by schools where they have a realistic chance of playing.

Yes I agree and they should be ready to hear from D 3 coaches too. There is nothing wrong with playing that level. It is the true student athlete. And if you out there haven't seen some of the top D3 schools in the nation then you really don't know what it is all about. FYI there are 4 or5 in NYS, Cortland, Ithaca, Buffalo State just to name a few.

Ithaca and Cortland were at Binghamton 2 weeks ago and Ithaca was at TNT this weekend. My point is that your team should be showcasing at tournaments where the schools you are most interested in are attending. BTW there were four LI teams playing simultaneously on the main compex at TNT Saturday morning: Chargers, F&I Pride, Team LI and Heat. There were many coaches at all levels watching these girls play.

None taken, I agree that there are LI girls capable of playing at the top D1 levels and if they are seeking to play at that level, they should showcase at the higher profile tournaments. For those girls who either do not have that talent level or are not looking to play softball at that level, then they should showcase at different tournaments. I just do not subscribe to the belief that you have to play or showcase at the highest level possible rather you should be at the level that best suits your needs.

Big Ten, Atlantic 10, Atlantic Coast, Colonial, Big East, Southeastern, and more. I agree that the Big 10, ACC, and SEC but I feel the others are mid majors for softball. How many players on the island do you think can play at that level?

And by the way, it could work in reverse for the player if they are in 'Top D1' tournaments with only 'D2' talent. They will never be showcased in the right forum.

Heard the Bandits had a tough weekend, although I think they were shorthanded as usual. Chargers played well and lost some tough ones by one run. Heat had 3 wins an a tie through Sat., but they played through Sunday and I don't know how they finished up. Don't know how the Pride did, but I'll tell you it was awesome to see so many Long Island teams playing at the same time at that main complex. There are a lot of coaches watching and the LI teams were impressive.

Out of the PAC-10, how many girls actually wowed you? For me maybe 5 but I'll stretch it out just for conversation and say 20. That leaves about 150 or so players in the PAC-10 left. Out of that number do you think there are 5-10 girls, 1 for every( other) team that could make the team? How many teams do you want to include in 'Top D1'?

How many teams do you want to include in 'Top D1'? I do not want to fight with you, I am just asking your opinion. I feel the girls should go to a school and play, not sit for three or four years. I have seen this happen many times. Someone takes the D 1 road and then sit for 3-4 years. If they went D 2 or D 3 they might have not only had a chance at playing everyday they would have had a chance to be in a World Series and winning a National Championship. They would also have a realistic chance to be All Region and possibly All American. The question I ask, would she rather sit the bench or limited playing time at D 1 or have the opotunity to play everyday at D 2/D 3? I think that is something that every girl should ask themselves before signing that letter. |
