I do not want to fight with you, I am just asking your opinion. I feel the girls should go to a school and play, not sit for three or four years. I have seen this happen many times. Someone takes the D 1 road and then sit for 3-4 years. If they went D 2 or D 3 they might have not only had a chance at playing everyday they would have had a chance to be in a World Series and winning a National Championship. They would also have a realistic chance to be All Region and possibly All American. The question I ask, would she rather sit the bench or limited playing time at D 1 or have the opotunity to play everyday at D 2/D 3? I think that is something that every girl should ask themselves before signing that letter. Don't misunderstand. I am all about not fighting. I am just sharing opinions. This is the main reason I hate forums like this. Things get read with the wrong articulation, interpetation, etc. Whew! With that out of the way my question/answer was not intended to be sarcastic, demeaing, or know-it-all. In the end softball is softball. I just don't want LI girls to short change themselves. I see alot of 'LI talent' that are not from LI going to top 50 D1 schools. If someone is happy playing Top D1 Low D1 D2 side D2 D3 then that is great. Not everyone is Lisa Fernandez, Jenny Finch, or Stacey Neuvman. Some are girls that want to play have fun and become doctors, lawyers, or some other profession. In the end that is what it is really all about. SftBallForever, you make excellent points. Hopefully, some useful advice to all the uncommitted players. Make sure you ask your potential where they see you on their team. Immediate impact player, 1-2 years grooming. Outfield instead of infield. The point is ask many questions.

Thanks, and you make excellent points on academics, they must come first. As the NCAA commercials say.........most student athletes become pros in something other than their sport.

top to bottom only the s.e.c. and the pac 10 could be considered the elite conferences. out of the rest, big 10, big 12 and big east are 4 team horse races. i`d put a.c.c. after them. in recent years i know of 3 players in that scenario. lisa longo (s. car.) played a regular shift at 2nd base. jess legendre (o.u.) started at ss for almost her full freshman yera then sat till her jr year when she earned the 3rd base job. she wasn`t on the roster this year. lastly the girl of the hour, sandberg (u.g.a.) played all but 1 game and started all but 2. and forgot n.car. has a kid playing ss regular too. has long island had a sudden burst of talent lately that one girl every 2-3 years making a top D1 school going to change? hope so but until i start seeing it i`m skepticalI agree that the Big 10, ACC, and SEC but I feel the others are mid majors for softball. How many players on the island do you think can play at that level?

| BigSftballFanPosts: 278Location: Join Date: April 17, 2008 1:24 PMSend Message | Don't know if its true but I heard at a tournament a few weeks ago that the NJ Inferno Gold are $5,000.00 and that the NJ Witches are $3,200.00 per season and that doesn't include rooms and airfare. These are all insane numbers if true - anyone know? | |
