Don't understand it. There should be no college players in a college showcase at all.

I was at one showcase where there was a team with all but 1 or 2 were college bound players. I am sure there were a lot of college coaches watching that team. I feel showcase organizers should limit the number or percentage of college bound players on teams. There are many teams out there with a mix so it will never be 100 percent underclassman. I feel a team in a showcase should have more underclassman than graduating seniors, lets say 65 to 75 percent recruitable players.

To do that they will need to play a competitive 18U schedule. I think that returning college players playing 18u is the problem. It is my opinion that once you play college ball you should no longer be eligible for 18U. This would serve two purposes 1. It would give more high school kids opportunities to play up and compete for college rosters vs. other kids competing for the same spots. 2. It would open up the 23U field and give our kids a stronger competition level as they continue to play the game they love. I guess there is a number 3, it will make all the so called gold teams from everywhere real gold teams with high school players. After playing and recruiting from gold tournaments you will see what makes most of them gold is all the returning college players that fill their rosters. Long Island may not have a true gold team but at least most of our rosters are filled with High School kids working hard to get an opportunity to play college ball. |
