since our juniors and seniors on the island have gotten a lot of press, lets talk about the younger players who will be top notch in a couple years..

anyone know of any stand out freshmen and sop****res?

Soph Kaitlin Meade pitched outstandingly well in HS and has now thrown 6 shutouts in a row for her Travel team - she has yet to allow a run and led her team to winning both Travel tournaments so far

Alyssa Leonard (spelling?) for BS has great instincts on the field and can swing a bat with the best of them. I don't know if she is a freshman or sophmore or a junior though

Update:  Soph Kaitlin Meade pitched outstandingly well in HS and has now thrown 8 shutouts in a row for her Travel team - she has yet to allow a run (earned or unearned) and led her team to winning all three Travel tournaments so far (team is 16-1-1 so far)

It's a rhetorical question, of course, but are all Ward Melville pitching mothers devoid of brains.

When you lose in the first round of the playoffs (way back in the middle of May) , you'll have plenty of time to pitch travel ball on the weekends.

Players who played in the LI title game, or states aren't going to playing school until middle of June.  Their school coaches are not going to release them to play on weekends.

Some of the best players aren't even out there yet in travel ball.  Winning the Triple Crown 4 Team Shootout at WM, er, doesn't count.  So go find a travel ball board section to satisfy your ego...and try and get past the first round of the playoffs too.

you pretty much touched every base on that one. weak long island tournaments dont count. mrs. meade, stop trying to hype up your daughter. we have heard it for the whole varsity season, WE GET IT

Rockettech and Catalyst - the "BB" (thats the Brentwood B..ches) girls are back!  You pick screen names similarly, and I believe I know who you are.  It must have been tough when she struck you each out three times that last game.  But thats no reason for you to get nasty.  You won't believe it but I am not Mrs Meade nor am I related to the Meades.  I do not even have a child playing softball anymore.   If you had read through my other posts over these months, you would have seen that.  I do know her to say hello - and many other players too - and only got involved in defending her when I first read your ugly ranting posts.  Someone deservedly threw her name into a post as one of the better LI pitchers (there were many names offered by many posters).  You immediately singled her out with ugly nasty and uncalled for statements - you didn't turn ugly against any of the other names - just her - and we all knew it was personal.  You can neither spell nor reason maturely - so we also knew you were children.  She is so much better than you two - and you know it!

This forum happens to be entitled "best frosh/sophs" - and she's there despite your ugly jealousy. I'd have to say that she is certainly in the top few sop****re or frosh pitchers on LI.  She'll be able to go where you can only dream.  If you do not have something positive to say (idea - why don't you come in under different names and praise each other!), then go back into hibernation.

Everyone knows but you that every good travel team doesn't compete on LI.  They compete out of state against other Gold teams, but I presume you do not know this being your daughter doesn't compete on a quality team.  Out of state teams are competing with their best athletes.  I believe I read in previous posts your daughter plays for a team that gets mercied every game, and you have the biggest mouth here putting down quality athletes.  So before you speak get your daughter on a quality travel team and try to win a few HS games before we hear from you again. I think you should read the thread on Suffolk Awards and look at the good pitchers there.

Rocketech and Catalyst:  A few minutes ago, Strikee3 posted on a different forum (Suffolk County Awards) the below message.  I do not know if its accurate but maybe it will shut you up.  Please note that Meade made All County and is apparently 3rd in strikeouts, tied for 5th in Shutouts, and tied for 7th in most wins.  That certainly sounds like she is one of the top frosh/sophs.  So please find a life somewhere else and quit knocking on this girl.

"Strikee3 :  PITCHING LEADERS- Most Strikeouts-in this order- Stavola-274, Flint-205(All County), Meade-188(All County), Taylor-175, Swezey-171, Lucido-168(All Division), Krantz-151, Stafford-150, Dulaney-145, Doolin-141, Shea-125, Havens-124(All Division), Devries-122, Weber-121(All-County).

MOST SHUTOUTS/NO HITTERS-in this order:Stavola 11 SO/6NH,  Sweezy 9 SO/3NH,  Shea 7 SO/1 NH,  Krantz 7 SO/1 NH,  Meade 6 SO/ 1 NH,  McGowan 6 SO/2 NH,  Dulaney 5 SO/ 2 NH

MOST WINS- Stavola 18, Flint 18, Taylor 18, Shea 17, Sweezey 13, Dulaney 13, Kantz 12, Bitsimis 12, Lucido 12, Meade 12, Weber 11, Gallo 11, Stafford 11, Havens 10

So there you go for pitching, please let us know the rest of the All county, division and league selections as I only knew of the ones I mentioned"

Olivia is great but the topic is best frosh/sophs, she is entering her senior year.

Why is it always the best pitchers...what about all the other players who contribute and make the plays so the pitchers get their no hitters
sftblfan

further proof- i hate to get on particular players, because i'm sure they are great kids and good players. BUT i'm looking at these pitching stats above and the bayshore pitcher is at the bottom of these lists or not on them at all, and she's all-long-island?????????????????? c'mon now. and these lists are only representing suffolk, what about all the other nassau players above her. bayshore controls some of this voting and it just isn't right!!! also the SS for bayshore has made all-long-island as a freshmen and a sophmore, and again i'm sure she is a terrific kid, but i saw her stats this year in the caption that went along with her picture for all island, and i'm sorry but there are alot of other players with better stats than that. as i've written in other posts for underclassmen to reap these awards they ought to be complete no-brainers for the accolades. i grew up with the same political B.S. that still goes on today, c'mon NEWSDAY wake up already!!!

very well said!!!

I agree that not enough credit goes to the non-pitching players.  It seems in every sport that the pitcher/quarterback is always the one who gets the accolades as if the pitcher/quarterback is the only one whose play determined the win or loss.  It seems to be the glory position - as far as the media attention.  It certainly can be the most important position as it is difficult to win with a poor pitcher yet a poor SS can be hidden somewhat as the SS is not in on every play.  But it may be the SS who saves the win for the pitcher.  Same goes for HR hitters - they get more glory than singles and doubles hitters.  Maybe there should be a forum for just the non-pitching players to give them a bit more credit.
