Why do teams tell parents that they are going to all the best showcases when they cant even get in to these showcases? The Heat is telling parents and players that they are going to the TNT LASTLOOK SHOWCASE this not being truthfull. These parents are trusting these organizations to do the right thing with the kids, that 16u heat team cant even play 500 ball in the brookhaven leauge. Maybe they should be another gold team. Parents please do your homework when picking a team to showcase your child. The Chargers, The Bandits, and Sudden Impact will get your kids showcased. Is it a showcase if there are no coaches there?

Agreed, every 18u team ONLY goes to the BEST showcases; that is, well, according to the coach.

LAXMAN - I have to admit you do sound like a burned parent.  BTW, does the "LAX" part of your name indicate an affiliation with lacrosse?

3DAUGHTERS on another post has some very sound advice for all players and parents - in all sports.  It is largely up to you the player and the parent to get the colleges interested.  You have to contact the college coaches with your videos, etc to interest them and then let them know where you are playing.  And you have to stay after them with calls, letters, follow-ups, visits, etc.  Show them that you are interested in the college.  Don't expect to attend a Showcase or any tourney for that matter and just expect coaches to show up and besiege you with offers - it doesn't happen that way.  You have to let the schools know first that you are interested in them.  You should be picking a school first for education purposes not just to play SB.  AND unless you are a simply outstanding SB player, your marks had better be there.  A college which has a choice of 2 relatively equal SB players will definitely choose the one with the marks first.  Marks count more than simple SB ability.  SB is not the revenue maker for colleges that football or basketball are, and the colleges will not be giving away athletic money in a sport which probably is a money loser for them anyway unless they can get some extra besides the SB ability.  That extra for them is academic ability.

Wow. That screams of bitterness. You need to chill out. Do you know for sure that the team is not attending that tournament? Unless you are affiliated with the team or you were previously affiliated with that team I'm not sure how you would. If you are currently with the team and you do know for sure that they are not going, well then that's a major issue, no one should be lying about the tournaments they're attending, but if you're not and I think it more likely that you're not, maybe you should contact them directly and ask? I just went to their website and looked at their tryout message. There are two email addresses listed for questions. Did you ask them?

As for lying to people maybe they are hoping and there was a communication breakdown, these tournaments keep everyone on hold even the chargers are being put on hold after the product they put out last year.

I took my daughter to the LI Express tryout, it was pretty intense, not a joke at all.

From my understanding the TNT Fall Last Look is strictly invitational, as in you literally have to be sent an invitation in order to attend, as opposed to other invitationals that wait for applications and then they choose for the pool of applicants. I've been to the tournament's website. It does not have a general application form for that tournament. In order to go you must be invited and obviously they were.

If someone claims to be going, its very likely that they are. Travel softball is a very, very small world. The odds that someone would lie so blatantly are slim, as an organization's reputation is very fragile. It's not worth it to mislead potential athletes and I don't think that's the case with the Heat. I do however think that's the last bit of attention the very angry, bitter and quite frankly libelous original post deserves.

Laxman - I don't know that team or the coaches - but that doesn't matter.  Your remarks are completely nasty and uncalled for.  These are just chidren - someone else's daughters.  There is no reason or need for you to be so nasty.  It sounds to me like your daughter didn't make the team and you are frustrated and seriously venting - but at the wrong targets.  If you feel you can coach better, why don't you do so?

Now that is way over the line. You're insulting children who work extremely hard at what they do. I reported your post to Newsday. Hopefully they take care of it and quite frankly I hope they remove the thread. This is absolutely ridiculous. What did they do to you? Why do you seem to care so much? Did they cut your kid? Beat your daughter's team? Have the audacity to attend a tournament you seem to think they shouldn't be attending? Enough. I'll admit I spend an inordinate amount of time on the game of fastpitch softball, but the anger in your posts is scary. You're very brave also, to do this anonymously. Calling out a team of girls and their coaches, everyone can find out who they are, but no one'll know who you are. Very manly and courageous of you.

There are a few teams and organizations that have the talent and organizational clout  to get into the better tournaments. Coaching has alot to do with it as well. There are alot of teams out there that just don't have the talent or enough talent to compete in the top Showcases. Some organizations get alot of kids to tryout. Instead of picking the best 15 or so, they get greedy and pick eough for two teams and dilute the talent pool.

It's not hard to see which teams and or oganizations can go compete with better teams. If your daughter is a player, they are all trying out now, tryout and see how she does
