With everything being said over the years, surely someone must have the so called bad stuff on tape.

Is the guy denying his behavior?

Are players in his favor denying his behavior?

There is a very fine line between abuse and motivation of your players. If it were on tape it would be easy to judge.  Have any EI games been taped over the years?

If a bat was really used on a player, what has the player said about it? What has the coach said?

It seems that some obvious yes or no questions need to be answered. No need for any type of special investigators.  Get the people involved in a room and ask the questions.  Will the coach who is as opinionated and loud as his reputation back down and deny his behavior or stand up and say that it is his way of motivating?

Seems like a lot of wasted time for things that could be answered very easily.  I don't know the guy and I"m not in the district, just an outside observer.  Can anyone enlighten the world?

show me a coach who doesn't curse or yell, at the high School level, can't find one... not a one who hasn't done it at some point.

To all of you that think you could coach better why don't you go coach.

nothing like beatin a man when he's down..geesh!!

To anyone who takes the time to read this entire post:

Everything has been blown completely out of proportion.

I hope someone of authority sees this post.

Ciampi is not only a great coach of athletics but he also influences the lives of his players a lot deeper than the average parent, bystander or board member thinks.

He is a positive role model for his kids. Yeah the world is tough, get over it. Something I've learned from playing for Ciampi: If  I can play for him, stick to it, and give it my all, I will be a success. Its not easy and sometimes its not fun, but if you want to be successful: thats life.

And nothing has been more true. Ive learned that experience hands on from Ciampi at a young age and it has helped me to become who I am today.

Just to hear that a man of such integrity is being accused of something like this makes me sick. He has done more for this community than any one I know.

Ask any one who has played for the man and I guarantee you the first thing they say they learned from Ciampi wont be: "He taught me how to throw a football" or "He taught me how to block" they will say "he taught me discipline" or "he taught me how to be a more responsable person."

The bottom line is, Ciampi is different from other coaches. (I have had several other coaches) His methods are stronger but are not out of line. He is strict and he is tough but he is not over the edge. But the thing that sets him apart is not how he coaches, but what he teaches his players.

People need to wake up and realize what is happening to this man. He is the positive father figure and role model of so many young men, not to mention a great symbol of this community; and to see him in this position makes me sick.

There must be a reason why these accusations have been made.  I think its great that students and players for ciampi are writing in support of him, but where are the parents?  No player (at least current one) would write anything bad, but i think it speaks VOLUMES to not have any parents respond to these false (supposedly) accusations.

YEAH... but how do you know that none of these posts are from parent's?

I commend the kids both current and past for stepping up, and having their voices heard for a man whom they obviously have a great deal of respect and admiration for.

I don't know anything about this coach other than what I have read in the paper's over the years.

From what I have heard, the asst coach is at home collecting his $100K paycheck while the district decides what to do with him.  A niece of mine in the school says that he IS coming back--thats the word.  Teachers have mentioned that if the district has done nothing as of yet, then there must be no reason to NOT bring him back.

That same niece has the HC as her soc stud teacher.  Said all he does is hand out dittos, text his wife and show movies all day long.  Hasnt learned a damn thing in his class.  I dont know him personally, but i've never heard any examples of how "great a guy he is" and what he's done for the "community".  And as of this time...still no parental support.

There probobly will be no parental support.  You find that in many "entitlment situations".  Coaches like Ciampi teach their players to fight through adversity that many parents are attempting to shield their kids from.  In my minds eye a tough minded person who can handle challanges is much better off than a person who lookes for Mommy and Daddy to make excuses and/or save them from every tough situation.  In other words "Little Johnny" is forced to become an independant, sulf sufficient adult in the EI program.  Most parents can't deal with that because their children actually seem more respectful to their coach than to the parent.  Maybe it is because in the end, the player is greatful to Coach Ciampi for being real with them (even though the truth hurts at times) than blowing smoke up their butts.  You can't make excuses for your kids forever people!

i played against this guy the 3 last years and he is an absolute dbag...everytime i would talk to a kid on first base or the catcher in the batters box my first comment to him would be wow ure coach is ****** and that would start up a great conversation.  i was playing in the game in which the kid got chest bumped and found it quite amusing that a coach would cross the line like that.  the berating as u kno did not stop after the game ended...i thank god everyday that i was born in east islip
eiredmen28

I totally agree with Mike. For baseball, Ciampi helped me with my swing and my pop time to 2nd base. He prepared me for a college game environment. Once you enter college, its a totally different atmosphere. He coached like it was a college game. He prepared us for our future. At times was it tough? Of course, but in order to become a talented player, to path to success isn't an easy one. I hope these accusations get dismissed immediately, and this "child" who brought up these accuations move to West Islip like he says he is....
Nicepass

Not sure of what the entire situation is about.

Coaches are not perfect and the great ones admit when they have crossed the line.  The first thing every coach should do is get coaching insurance in case a parent decides they want to sue him for whatever reason.

Coaches have to be passionate.  Football coaches in particular are under tremendous scrutiny. The minute you take that job, 50 percent of the parents are upset with you. Between the ridiculous expectations of parents (and their child getting scholarships to recognition) and the spineless decisions of administrations (who fear only bad publicity not future moral judgment), it is really an uphill struggle for the coach.

The East Islip coach may very well have been wrong here.  However, the climate in interscholastic sports is now at a point that even the mild mannered coach is under a microscope now.  At least in New York the coaching salary is pensionable income.  In New Jersey, this is not true and the bottom line is you HAVE to win to keep your job there.

Worse???  Is being a competitive man a bad thing.  This whole situation is an absolute joke.  I played for both Big Sal and little Sal.  These men are just not coaches they are father figures to most of the kids that play for them.  Do they curse sometimes?  Yes, do they reprimand you if you do not do the right thing on or off the field absolutely.  These coaches made me and a lot of other student athletes better people in school, life and in the community.  Sal Jr. should be exonerated of all charges.

The story that I heard is that Sal Jr sent  a player who was not performing down to JV and the father who thought that his kid was the next Derek Jeter flipped out.  I dont know about you but if my coaches didnt think that I was good enough my father never said a word he told me to work harder.  These fathers these day all live through their children because they never had any sports career of their own.  Thank God that I was able to play for these two distinguished coached who always taught me that hard work would pay off.  I wish I still lived in the school district because it would be an honor for my son to play for any of the EI coaches.

To the parents get over it, if your son was good enough he would be playing if he is not good enough have him work harder dont send letters to the school embarassing your child and yourself.  To the dad that sent the letter making up stories that his son was hit, you couldnt hack it as a high school athlete and obviously neither can your son.  You are teaching your son horrible life lessons, if he doesnt get his way to cry and scream until he does.  If your wish does come true and Sal is dismissed as the head coach of football and baseball, this town just lost out on a coach that has won county championships in baseball and football and LI championship in football.  He has sent many kids to school playing both sports.

do you just hate life? because you have nothing better to do in your life then complain about coaches that are living the life you wish you had. you seam like that guy on pros vs. joes that is just horrible and the only reason they put you on the show is so people laugh at you to keep their ratings up. seriously though just get out of here because were all fighting for a great man who helped everyone in this community at some point in his life and trying to keep east islip sports alive because his family is the back bone to our sports. so all of you other people hating on east islip sports, its not our fault you dont have the amazing opportunity to be coached by the best coach on the island. and anyway if he was so bad why would we have the enitre student body, parents, teachers, and alumni fighting for his job as coach back?
