I'm sure that Syosset never imagined in a million years what a battle you would give them. You're a young team with an incredibly bright future. Good luck to the Seniors who helped put you back on the LI soccer map. Way to go boys! Now if your coach would only agree to let you play an annual game against the Blazers. That would be something! Great comeback by Syosset though. Down 2-0 with 20 minutes to go in the game. They fought back and picked up their keeper who lost his footing on the 2nd South goal. Bad enought that it had to end on PK's but it really would've been a shame if it came down to the keeper (who had a great game) losing his footing on a slick field.

The back-up did a great job but I think that playing without your starter can get into your head at times. Even so, every loss they endured was by 1 goal only against the tough competition in D-1. And when they got healthy at the end of the season they topped Jericho 2-1. Now they've lost a top midfielder who broke his nose this past weekend. The other guys will have to pick it up. I see them beating North Shore setting up a great semi-final contest with Jericho...rematch of last years County Championship game.

The return of GN's starting goalie really appears to have given the entire team a lift. They are playing with a tremendous amount of confidence right now. This team appears to be peaking at the right time and whoever they play in the semis on Friday, Jericho or Lynbrook, will have their hands full. Should be a great game and I would not be surprised at all if the winner out of this side of the bracket wins in the final. Any scores in yet from the other games?

Jericho will undoubtedly be looking to avenge their loss on pk's in last year's final but don't underestimate GNN...they are a dangerous team, loaded with Seniors who were part of last year's County Championship team. GNN has a new coach this year who has done a great job with the team keeping them focused and working hard through some tough one goal losses during the regular season. It ought to be a great game. Hopefully this year it doesn't end on PK's. |
