| SuffolkFHPosts: 2Location: Join Date: November 12, 2008 12:02 PMSend Message | Here's one guesstimate for an All Long Island: Goalies: Deturo W-M, and Johansen Friends Academy. Defenders: DeMola SE, Loor SE and Norell GC. Mids: Brosco SWR, Pewarski GC, Holland W-M and Gallagher Pt. Jeff, also Beltrani W-M and Vitalo W-M, Forwards: Cabral Sayville, McTiernan GC and Andromidas GC, also Baranek West Bab and Amato Manhasset. That only leaves a couple dozen top players out. | |

She won't make it but the goalie from Smithtown East is exceptional, and the goalie from GC must be good because she was unscored on most of the year. Newsday will have a tough time narrowing it down to 16 like you did but I think that is the right number. Don't see how you can keep Garden City's Terraciano off the team. She made it last year and had another great season. I'd pick her instead of Loor as Sachem was good but not good enough to deserve 2 selections. I'd also pick Rahner from Melville instead of Beltrani- Rahner had big goals against both Mamaroneck (only kid to score on them all year) and Greene at states.

The first four mids mentioned are awesome. The first three forwards probably no brainer picks as well. I'll go with the two goalies, though they may not be shoo-ins. Probably Amato too, she led Nassau in scoring. After that it's up in the air on the other spots. If a sophmore gets on, it's Beltrani. There are probably a dozen girls not mentioned who might have a shot. Newsday has a few tough calls this year among a number of deserving girls. With over 50 field hockey teams on Long Island, I'm thinking, maybe an "Honorable Mention" list this year? Team success will likely play a factor.

| hcattopPosts: 9Location: Join Date: September 23, 2008 3:32 PMSend Message | Callie Vitalo who is also a sop****re- Newsday has it wrong in the scoring leaders- had a better year than Beltrani- and scored some huge goals upstate- she should be the sop****re that makes All-Long Island- ignore the hype- reward the accomplishment | |

Many of you don't have all the facts so let's let the powers that be decide on All Long Island. SUFFOLK has a lot of talented players and there are always some that "should have been" included but ALL players that are chosen deserve it. NASSAU has powerhouse Garden City - their starters play only a few minutes of each game so to accumulate the stats they get is quite an accomplishment - to say they have too many players each year is untrue - they've won several state championships. Remember what happened with PJ last year when Newsday had to stop the blog. DON'T put teams or players down that you know nothing about. Think before you write - remember - the kids read this too. KEEP IT POSITIVE FOLKS...these girls all work hard and deserve accolades, not criticism.

GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS TO ALL LONG ISLAND WINNERS!

| deerpathkathPosts: 1Location: Join Date: December 15, 2008 10:57 AMSend Message | Coach of the Year Selections were obvious and well deserved. For some reason Newsday reduced the number of selections this year from 14 to 12. Last year there were no goalkeepers picked and this year they took 3. That left only 9 field players to be taken, 3 from Garden City and 2 from Melville so only 4 field players from all of Long Island were taken that played for someone other than the two State champs. Giving 25% of the slots to keepers is too much. That being said why did Newsday eliminate Caroline McTiernan, Lauren Terracciano and Danielle Demola -all seniors- who all made All-Long Island last year and had great seasons this year? Newsday raised the price of their paper from 50 cents to 75 cents yet couldn't dig deep enough to give the Field Hockey page some color like some of the other sports got. Finally, Micaela Gallager had a great career and is a fantastic field hockey player but is The Player of the Year supposed to go to the kid who had the best career or the best year? Eleni Andromidas won LI Player of the Year without having made All Long Island last year so I assume the awards are based on this years accomplishments. Also Newsday printed that Micaela had 16 goals and had 40 assists this year? Huh? Pt. Jeff didn't score 40 goals all year going 9-11 on the season. Newsdays own stats say she had 14 goals and 5 assists. I guess my point is if we're looking to reward seniors, try explaining to DeMola, McTiernan and Terraciano why they were left off the team entirely. | |
| FHonLIPosts: 3Location: Join Date: December 7, 2008 8:00 AMSend Message | It's a typo - Micaela Gallagher had 14 goals and 4 assists - not 40. She's still a great player! | |
