Free 6 foot heroes if they win? Good luck to GC also. Melville is playing Mamaroneck today who has not surrendered a goal this year and GC plays Putnam Valley who survived a real tough B bracket with Lakeland and last year's champ Rye. Don't know much about PJ's opponent. Hopefully the weather will hold up. Too bad games aren't on the Island so more folks could go. Good luck to three fine programs.

Jeff lost a hearbreaker in overtime at Regionals and had a great post-season run. Garden City continued to roll despite some lousy weather conditions. And Ward Melville surprised a lot of folks north of the Whitestone Bridge with a 1-0 win over perennial power Mamaroneck. The Tigers had scored 114 goals and given up NONE this year. Great job by the Patriots and it speaks well to teams like Sachem East and Smithtown East who really made Melville earn it this year. Good luck to both of these teams in Syracuse this weekend.

GREAT win by WM over arrogant M. Tigers. .... Great win. Ward Mel played tough the whole way. Way to go kids. What a pleasure to watch. Watching M's stunned fans filter out of the stadium in silence was too much fun. They were annoying. Lakewood High School was a wonderful host to all three games. Next game was PJ vs. Bronxville. A heartbreaker, the one Long Island loser. PJ scored early (by the amazing MG ) and tried to hold on for the next 50 minutes.. PJ had two key injuries. Bronx controlled the midfield and eventually the bigger older team over took the small younger team in OverTime. GC entered the field with great ****iness and played very well. BUT Putnam Valley (who upset host HS Lakewood) gave an inspired performance. At this point it had become a very wet day.

Stellar defensive effort led by goalie DT carried the day. Final game had Melville back to their game of ball movement and pressure to forge a shutout on a good team for the championship. An all around team effort from all for Ward Melville's first State Championship. Congrats to all!!!!!! |
