Things couldn't look much worse. Management is an embarassment. Injuries are crippling. As Mets fans, we've seen this kind of outlook before. Question is, Is it over or can they still turn it around? Let me couch my response by saying, this may be more wishful thinking than likely. However, as a diehard Mets fan, I am prone to delusional views. Anyway, here goes. I think there is still time to get back in it. First, the Phillies are on an unbelievable tear. That is usually followed by a funk that may bring them somewhat back to reality. The acquisition of Lee may put the idea of taking the division beyond delusional. The wild card is a long shot but could happen if the injuries get back in time. The Mets have a steady diet of Diamond backs and Padres for the next two weeks. Now is the time to get hot. If they can go on a 10-5 run over the next two plus weeks against these struggling teams, they could be in the thick of the race for the wild card with over 40 games left. If Reyes, Beltran and Delgado come back to the lineup and Putz and Wagner come back to the bullpen, this team could make that run. Realistic?? Maybe not, but wouldn't it be nice?? Remember our two miracle teams, '69 and '73, were both in as bad a position entering August as this team. The difference is the talent to make the run. I know "If" is the biggest, little word in the Engliish language but if the injuries return by August 15th, it may not be over yet. There, I said it. Now you all know I'm a little crazy, but I'm a delusional Mets fan. At times like this, I remember Tug McGraw. "You Gotta Believe". I'm going to the game today and I'll be displaying my Piazza jersey with pride. "Let's go Mets!!!!!!"

Joel Sherman of the NY Posts reports that Mets mgmt may not tender Maine a contract this off season due to his injuries and that would make him a free agent. While the move is understandable it put a big hole in the rotation next year. That means we would be looking at a rotation of Santana, Pelfrey, Perez, Neise (if he shows this season he belongs) and the probable return of Livan. I don't think this rotation scares anyone. Omar or his sucessor, if he gets the boot, sure has his work cut out for him this off-season.

Is this really true? Mets said no to a deal for Roy Halliday???????

Folks, being out here in AZ, I am relying on trade rumors. com here. Please tell me that it's not true that the Mets told the Jays no to a deal for Niese, Parnell, F-Mart and Tejada? They didn't want to mortage the future. What future? You get a chance to have a Santana/Halliday 1-2 punch and you don't pull the trigger immediately. Hello..........the last time the Mets won a Championship was in '86. With a Santana, Halliday, Maine, Pelfrey, Perez rotation, you can fill in the other holes. Ike Davis, Eddie Kunz, Tobi Stoner, Flores, Thole are still prospects. My God, what is this guy Minaya thinking here or are the Wilpon's being cheap by not wanting 2 aces? Get Halliday. Trade Reyes for prospects. Trade Maine if you want. Sign O-Dog.We had another Met phenom sighting tonite in Oakland. Kevin Mulvey, that gem of a prospect, made his debut for Minnesota. . How are those Met phenom's Lastings Milledge and Alex Escobar doing? Go get Halliday. No brainer just like Piazza was. This will show a sign of commitment towards winning for next season. This trade rejection is just whacky man!

The Biggest Disappointment

With his strikeout in the first inning tonight (with a RISP, I might add) David Wright is now hitting under .200 in the month of July, with 2, count-em, 2, RBI's. A month ago, when Beltran joined Reyes and Delgado on the DL, it was obvious the Mets needed Wright's production more than anytime else. And the sad truth is, David Wright didn't just disappoint, he absolutely disappeared. Is this the guy the Mets should be building their team around?

Looking at the current standings, the Mets have the 10th worst record in the ML. If this remains throughout the remaining of the season, the Mets will have a 1st round pick within the top 15. Which means that if they do sign a TYPE A free agent, they do not have to surrender that draft pick. They would surrender their 2nd round pick. so basically, the Mets are given a freebie with them signing a TYPE A free agent. This changes the entire makeup of what the Mets might want to do. It may be worth it to try to trade Castillo (eat at least half the remaining salary) and sign Hudson. Then pursue TYPE B free agents like Erik Bedard or John Lackey, and Carl Crawford or Hank Blalock. Bring in some of the young players to compete and hope a couple catch on. So many options are open for the Mets,

Are they underachieving or just not that good?

We've used every excuse in the book for this team. Injuries are, no doubt, the biggest hindrance to this team. However, the problems, masked for so long by the achievements of our core players, run much deeper. Let's talk about defense and fundamentals. Are they kidding? At the major league level, they play horrible defense. The defense of Reyes, Beltran and even Delgado would have been the difference in at least a half dozen games. What about the disppointing regression of several players. We talk about Ollie Perez but what about Pelfrey and Murphy? We thought Pelfrey would be a solid #2, #3 at worst starter. With an ERA over 5.00, he is as big a disappointment as Perez. In Murphy, we thought we had a rising young star. At .246, with little power and serious defensive failures at two positions, it's time to call him out. Weren't Niese and F Mart supposed to burst on the scene this year. Too early to say but neither looked very good. So while injuries may have submarined this season, the disturbing lack of fundamentals and the serious questions raised about players like Perez, Pelfrey, Murphy and Maine (Will he ever be healthy) make the future much less bright. The question of whether our farm system can really produce talent that can help bolster a major league roster should also be asked. Also tired of the Mets lying to the fans about the extent of injuries. Reyes and Beltran didn't go on the disabled list and were day to day. Each was expected back shortly, etc., etc. Are they being honest with us or are they really that bad at evaluating injuries? Sorry for the downer. Seems the wheels are falling off. Hard to find anything going well right now. Hope they don't trade any good young talent. This team should see what it has. We've debated Omar's trade record. Forget any trades. The farm system doesn't produce, the players he acquires lack fundamental skills, and the teams he has assembled have had three consecutive years where injuries mounted as the season progressed and the players lose their fight as the season wears on. Time for a change.

Bottom of the first, the Braves are up 3-0. I'll go way out on a limb here and chalk this one up as another Loss for the Mets. This team is so bad, there are just no words to express it. Pelfrey stinks, and the team cannot hit its way out of a paper bag. This team is just plain pathetic. I cannot believe the Wilpons haven't canned Omar and Jerry both. They must be comatose over the money they lost to Madoff. For my part, I cannot understand how I even continue to watch these guys. I must be as delusional as they are bad. Somebody, help me.

Now that we have started the second half with a loss, it doesn't seem to be any different from the first half. The injured players are not coming back anytime soon and there doesn't seem to be any help on the horizon. I guess we will have to wait until the end of the season and hope that management makes some moves. The first two moves, as I have said before, should be M&M. Once we get rid of Minaya, who put this underachieving team together, then we can get rid of Manuel. Manuel is the wrong type of manager for this team and NYC. It is too bad that Gary Carter screwed up his chance to work his way through the system and eventually become manager of the Mets. Gary's great knowledge of baseball and his charisma would be perfect for the Mets. Lets hope that the Mets don't embarass themselves for the remainder of the season, and let's look forward to 2010.

Whose available before the trading deadline???

There have been many differences of opinion as to who the Mets should acquire before the trading deadline. Many on the board feel the Mets should go after a high profile player/players such as: Roy Halliday/Cliff Lee/Matt Holiday/Victor Martinez and mortgage the future and give away our top prospects (5 or 6 total). While many feel the Mets should go after a low profile player that would fill a need and not cost us a top prospect. Regardless which side of the fence you stand, we are in agreement that the Mets need to do something. Getting the core players back, along with healthy Maine and Putz will certainly help this team(the jury is still out on Wagner on how effective he will be). The recent trade of Francoeur for Church is a start and perhaps a long term plan by Omar (Francoeur is only 25 and has a higher ceiling than Church). Most recently, many fans on this board have expressed bad trades by Omar in recent years. Well, for those of you who have bashed Omar for trading away Bannister a few years back will be happy to know that the Royals have placed him on the trading block, along with Gil Meche as well. Could either one help the Mets in the second half? the answer is YES. Have either one been lights out for the Royals this season? the answer is NO. Meche is the most skilled between the two, but commands a higher salary and most likely higher trade value. Bannister makes roughly $1.7mil this season and is under control beyond this season and would command less in return. In my opinion, there's no doubt that the Mets need SP to help them in the second half. Along with the return of all the injured players, they will be better if they should take this direction. Well, there you go to all fans who hated that trade of Bannister for Burgos, now's your chance to get Bannister back without giving up any of our top prospects. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

All-Star Game: Curse of Derek Jeter or Curse of the Mets?

I am pretty fed up with the all-star game. I feel like I am watching the movie "Groundhog Day" and the same thing happens every year. No hitting by the NL. A 6th, 7th or 8th inning tie-breaking run by the AL and then the closers shut the door. I am sick of Mariano Rivera's FACE! I just can't figure out if it is The Curse of Derek Jeter (his first game was 1997 and the AL hasn't lost a game since then) or if it is the Curse of the Mets. Is it just me or do you notice that every single year, a Met seems to contribute to the loss? Last night, a typical David Wright throw to first base enables the AL to put up two HUGE runs in the first inning. I think Wagner spit the bit two consecutive years, including taking the loss one year, but every year, it is some Met giving up runs, making an error or failing to produce at the plate in a crucial situation. Would have like to have seen Heath Bell get the win last night to stick it in the craw of Omar, but the fact that he was even in the all-star game was excruciatingly painful. Bell, Kazmir, Jason Bay, Orlando Hudson (who would have been a Met if we could have dumped Castillo), the pain just never ends for Met fans....

SO MUCH FOR BUILDING A WINNER

Hey Met fans,We now have an underdog. A team that's not expected to win. That's this Met team to clarify. No more excuses from either side of the coin here, this team has been exposed for what it is. A team that depends on the core and FA'S and what we thought was fairly good pitching. Oh I know some of you thought like me, the team was weak, but got alot of arguments we would be OK. 38 blown saves ! We will be better next year. Wait till next year is more like it now !After 3 years of frustration, we now face a 4th. Crunch, Met fan, Westcoast, while impressed with your positive mindedness about this team, it's time to face the facts. We are , a poor excuse for utility ballplayers. We are in this present hole, because we didn't put a good utility team together. While during the off-season, we strenghtened the bullpen, and ignore a few utility ballplayers that would have come cheap, where are we now ?Sure, no team could survive 3 good players going down, yeah right. While difficult, not impossible. I wonder if a team suffered similar injuries. I bet they did.Mid August, we get Delgado, Reyes and Beltran maybe sooner Maine back? Wanna do a miracle run ? The 69 Mets, (anniversity ) went 37-11 over 8/15/69 to win it.I'd like nothing more then seeing this team win it this year, but why do I think that will never happen?I'd like nothing more then to win next year, or next year, or next year, but why do I think it won't happen ?I'm begginning to see the early years of the Mara's , the Giant org.. They would fill the stadium and not care about winning. See the Knicks lately. Some owners just don't care about winning. For a few years, build up the profits in the interum. Don't worry about the fans, they will come !The owners thought they had it with Delgado, Beltran, Reyes , Wright and Santana, add up their salaries. The BUCK STOPS here. Wilpons take their profit NOW for a few years. They spend , look like good guys, then they take back. That's the story and I'm sad to tell it !

Just For Fun: Favorite All-time Mets by Position

Just something I was thinking about when I woke up this morning. Since it's a little difficult to pick one player at each position, you can pick TWO at each position (including pinch hitter) plus five starters and five relievers. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean the GREATEST players at each position - I want to know your favorites. You'll see what I mean when you see my catchers.....By the way, left field was kind of tough for me. Not a whole lot of winners out there unless I am forgetting a few. Anyway, here we go:Catcher: Jerry Grote, John Stearns 1B: Keith Hernandez, John "The Hammer" Milner 2B ; Wally Backman, Tim Teufel (of course)SS - Buddy Harrelson, Rafael Santana3B - Howard Johnson, Ray KnightRF - Darryl Strawberry, Rusty StaubCF - Lenny Dykstra, Don HahnLF - Cleon Jones, Mookie WilsonPH - Ed Kranepool, Rusty Staub (again)Starters: Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden, David Cone, Ron Darling, Rick Aguilera Bullpen: Tug McGraw, Jesse Orosco, Roger McDowell, Skip Lockwood, Bob Apodaca Special Mention: Danny Heep, Mackey Sasser, Tommy Agee, Duffy Dyer, Wayne Garrett

Ryan Church

I for one am not happy to see Church go. I think the way the Mets have handles him over the last year or so has been terrible. From the mismanagement of his concussions to Manuel calling a rookie with 130 something at-bats a better hitter than Church. (Gee, Manuel looks brilliant on that one alone based on how the two are hitting at the moment.) Then add to that all the times this year Church would seem to get hot and have a good game and his reward? To find his butt on the pine the next game. They NEVER gave him a chance to find a groove. Francoeur and Church from stats look like similar players, however, the perception is that Francoeur is more of a free-swinger with little knowledge of the strike zone. I wonder how Keith is handling this one, he has always been very vocal of criticizing Francoeur during broadcast of Mets-Braves games. Manuel can deny it all he wants, but for whatever reason he did not like Church. I for one do not like Manuel. He constantly says he is going to do things and then changes his mind and doesn't follow through. Some of his moves during the game leave a lot to be desired (See attempting to pitch around Jetter with Rivera on deck and zero chance they take him out for a pinchhitter. No business throwing him anything remotely close to a strike there, none)

Please pay particular attention to Crash Davis ( Kevin Costner) when they go on a 12 game road trip and , his pitcher, Nuke Laloosh (Tim Robbins) on the bus scene.Crash tells the team he spent 21 days in Majors, and saw pitchers who threw a fastball, change, curve and slyder. Please, look at what a real pitcher shoud be today. If you can't find them, teach them to throw 4 pitches, not 2.If you can't find good men to teach them how to be good ML ballplayers, please hire the CC group here, and this Met team will be the best ever for years to come.Spring training comes and Sandy Koufax shows up and they all want to learn how to throw a curve like him. Too bad they don't learn it. Too bad they don't take it seriously.Omar ! Talk to me ! Watch the movie, need a catcher like Crash on this team for starters.Respectfully, The cc guys, and gals, who know how to play the game.

Omar makes first trade, Church for Francoeur

Well, Omar has started what may or may not be the last trade before the july trading deadline by trading Ryan Church to the Atlanta Braves for Jeff Francoeur. This is basically an even deal both in terms of talent and contracts. Oddly, I had mentioned this trade possibility before the start of the season, due to the uncertainty of Church's concussion issues and Francoeur's inconsistent play. I have no problem with this move, Church was not a favorite of Manuel and Francoeur is battling a season long slump. Both players will become FA after the season, so it's a move by both teams of wiping hands of each player. I liked Church and I also like Francoeur, both players are very similar with their game, with the exception that Church bats lefty and Francoeur bats righty. I hope both players can rebound and perform the way they are capable and both teams come out on top. What do the rest of you guys think of the trade. Also, do you expect Omar to continue with the trades or not.

Whether to break up the core

Many have sugested that it's time to break up the core. Well, we're getting a good look at life after you break up that group. Is Reyes over rated or is he the sparkplug that makes this offense work? Is Beltran the guy who finishes in the top 10 in MVP voting every year, a bum who chokes in big spots or a player you build around. The second highest scoring offense in the NL in 2008, looks pretty pathetic now. I have held all along that the core is what makes this team so close to a champion every year. Are pieces needed? Of course there are. Having seen life, or should I say lifeless, without the core, I hope I get to see Wright, Reyes and Beltran anchoring this team for a long time. Unfortunately, it sounds like they won't be back soon. Hope the season still matters when they get back. As it looks, we should not deal unless it's for a good long term addition at a reasonable price. One thing I hope they fix is fundamentals. Defensively, this may be the worst Mets team I have seen since '62.

FUNDAMENTALS

I BELIEVE WE HAVE SEEN SOME OF THE WORST BASEBALL IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON. I CANNOT BELIEVE A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM COULD MAKE SOME OF THE RUNNING MISTAKES AND MISCUES IN THE FIELD AS THIS GROUP HAS DONE OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS. THIS IS COMING OFF TWO BACK TO BACK SEPTEMBER COLLAPSES WHEN THEY SHOULD'VE CAME OUT LIKE GANGBUSTERS. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO HIT & RUN, BUNTING, ETC. THE FUNDAMENTALS ARE LEARNED IN LITTLE LEAGUE AND IT SHOULD BE SECOND NATURE AT THIS POINT TO THESE GUYS. THE LACK OF FUNDAMENTALS IS MIND BOGGLING AND EMBARRASSING TO SAY THE LEAST. YOU CAN ALL REMEMBER THE VENTURA, ORDONEZ, OLERUD, ALFONSO INFIELD! THEY WERE THE BEST IN BASEBALL. TO SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN TODAY'S GAME IS UNTHINKABLE. FUNDAMENTALS ARE CRUCIAL AND IT IS THE LITTLE THINGS THAT HELP TEAMS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS.

PATHETIC MANAGEMENT & OWNERSHIP

HERE WE ARE AT THE ALL-STAR BREAK WITH ABOUT 82 GAMES REMAINING. FREDDIE "COUPON" AND OMAR "THE TENT MAKER" HAVE DONE NOTHING TO IMPROVE THIS CLUB. WE ALL KNOW THAT THEY AREN'T WINNING ANYTHING WITH THIS LINEUP. WE ARE STILL UNBELIEVABLY ONLY 4 GAMES OUT. UNTHINKABLE ESPECIALLY WITH THE POOR PLAY AND INJURIES TO ADD TO THE MISERY. THE METS ORGANIZATION DOES NOTHING IN THE INTERIM. OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE GIVEN UP ON THIS SEASON AND HAVE THROWN IN THE TOWEL. THE FANS DESERVE BETTER AND THIS SITUATION IS GUT WRENCHING. WHY SHOULD THE FANS HOLD OUT ANY HOPE AT THIS POINT. PHIILLIES FANS AND THE REST OF BASEBALL CAN LAUGH AT THIS ORGANIZATION. FROM THE DROP BALLS TO THE OVER RUNNING OF THIRD BASE.THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND EMBARASSING BASEBALL. THE SCOUTING IS A JOKE AS WELL AS THE COACHING. WHO NEEDS A HITTING COACH(HOJO) ON THE PAYROLL IF HE ISN'T EARNING HIS MONEY. THERE ARE FLAWS IN TATIS SWING AS WELL AS WRIGHT AND HE OBVIOUSLY HASN'T ADDRESSED THEM OR DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE IS DOING! I KNOW THE VENTING HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE PAST TWO SEPTEMBERS BUT THIS SCENARIO TAKES THE CAKE. IS MANAGEMENT REALLY GOING TO HOLD ONTO F-MART THE SO CALLED 5 TOOL GUY? THIS KID IS HITTING .170 AND CAN'T CATCH A FLYBALL TO CENTER. HOW ABOUT A PROVEN PLAYER LIKE MATT HOLLIDAY? THE TIME TO WIN IS NOW AS THE WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY IS BASICALLY CLOSING. OMAR BUILT THIS MESS AND IS TOTALLY ACCOUNTABLE. WHY DOES THIS MAN STILL HAVE A CONTRACT/JOB? IS THIS THE BEST GM WE CAN GET TO RUN THIS ORGANIZATION? I'M OUT! DOES ANYBODY HAVE A N.Y. JET SCHEDULE HANDY?

Victor Martinez

The Indians are reportedly listening to offers for Victor Martinez and word is they want pitching. Would you guys consider trading Neise/and or Parnell plus lower prospets for Martinez. I am not sure I would make the trade but I would have to consider it. The reason I would consider it is that if you have Martinez bat in the line up the Mets may be able to afford to go with a platoon (at least in the beginning) at 1B of Murphy/Evans. The power drop-off from Delgado to Murphy and Evans would be made up for with Martinez/Santos over Schneider/Santos. Martinez is a switch-hitter that can also play 1B. I like Parnell and not sure if I want to include him in any trade but Victor would be a nice addition to this team. Your thoughts.

JOHN FRANCO CALLS OUT METS

JOHNNY FRANCO HAS CALLED OUT THE METS IN A N.Y. POST ARTICLE. HERE ARE SOME OF HIS QUOTES: John Franco blasted his struggling former team in a radio interview this week, saying there is no leadership in the clubhouse and "too much individualityYou know, there's still something missing there," Franco said. " I don't know what it is the last couple of years. Watching them almost every day, there's no leadership there. Nobody wants to step forward and be a leader. Something is missing, and it's hard to put your finger on it.Playing in New York, the pressure cooker here, so I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on them, but they need to relax a little bit and look like they're having fun. It kind of looks like they're not having fun and everybody's on their own page." Thank God the Phillies aren't playing as well, otherwise they would be a lot further back than they are right now." DAVID WRIGHT REPLIED: "With all due respect to Johnny, he doesn't know what's going on in this clubhouse," Wright said. "I don't feel the need to have to defend myself as a leader. If these guys in here respect me and think of me as a leader, then that's what I need. I don't worry myself about outside people saying what they're going to say, because it doesn't matter to me."I WENT TO ST. JOHN'S WITH FRANCO AND HAD HIM IN MY ENGLISH CLASS. HE IS A TRUE NEW YORKER AND VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS BASEBALL. HE SPEAKS FROM THE HEART AND I KNOW HE MEANS WELL. HE BASICALLY TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH AND I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS ALL ALONG ABOUT NO LEADSERSHIP AND SOMETHING IS MISSING IN THE CLUBHOUSE.

Please, put this team out of its misery. A team that is two games under .500 has no business being less than 10 games from first place. The longer we remain in the race, the more likely it is that Omar makes a stupid trade to get us "over the top" - like the Kazmir for Zambrano and Isringhausen for Billygoat Taylor trades in 2004 when we were "only" six games out. Please Philly, put it together quickly and just BURY us before the July 31 trade deadline before we do something stupid like trading for Matt Holiday. We are pretenders.
Why Omar Must Go

1) His record is of depending on aging players to play and perform at a high level (El Duque, Moises Alou, Pedro, Delgado) and then having to scramble around the junkyard when - surprisingly - these players get hurt. I am tired of Omar always getting a pass due to injuries. Granted, the injuries have been extreme this year, but Omar cannot receive a free pass because he is responsible for the product on the field.2) Every offseason, he goes for that one big name player that he thinks will put him over the top (Beltran, Delgado, Wagner, Santana, Rodriguez) but he doesn't do a good enough job with the other 80% of the team. He is building a skyscraper that is wide and top-heavy and building it on top of a too-small foundation, and the building is collapsing. Every year, he frantically grasps at straws instead of building a solid foundation for the long term. He plugs one hole in the dike with his finger but at the same time he is letting water through two or three new holes. The team is weak outside of a few big names. Look at the rotation. We have a #1 starter - followed by four #5 starters. You can't win with four #5-quality starters.3) Similar to #2 but stated in a different way. Omar is all sizzle, and very little steak. He loves the big splash of a free agent signing but cannot put a whole team together that fully meshes. Quite simply, he does not know how to build a TEAM.4) Too much of a fascination with international players. I'm sorry, but is it too much to wish that when the Futures All-Star Game is played that maybe there is some representation of Met players on the U.S. team instead of always the World team?5) Spends money like a drunken sailor. OK, he held the line (and I didn't disagree) at 3 yrs, $36 mio for a 36-yr old Derek Lowe - but just because he got more money elsewhere doesn't mean you leave the SAME MONEY ON THE TABLE for Oliver Perez. And of course four years, $25 mio for Luis Castillo, who at age 32, was headed for DOUBLE knee surgery in the offseason. Brilliant move.

Well, when a Manager puts a scrub like Argenis Reyes in the leadoff position in his lineup, ya know things have hit rock bottom. Omar mulling a deal, huh? Why, is a rival GM interested in any of the prized gems in the system? I would prefer to hear that Jeffy has mulled and is about to make the decision to dump Minaya and Jerry. Put Manuel out of his misery already. Neither Minaya or Manuel have been winners anywhere so why expect them to turn this thing around even if all injured players came back tomorrow.

Did the Mets medical staff miss another one? Here is a note about Beltran on my Yahoo fantasy baseball team: Beltran, as expected, sought a second opinion on Monday on his ailing right knee, but what will raise red flags is who he saw, the NY Daily News' Mets blog reports. Recommendation: Assistant GM John Ricco says Beltran's second opinion is with Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail, Colo. They specialize in microfracture surgery, but Ricco said not to read into that. It was just Scott Boras' preference for a doctor to render an independent opinion. Any time you hear microfracture surgery, it is cause for concern, but more will be known once the results of that exam are revealed.(Rotowire.com)

If your not a New Yorker, you may not understand this. You would think that Castillo's error in the Yankee ballpark would be inspirational to this team to be fired up to beat the Yankee's at home. Not to mention, but I will, Santana's horrible defeat in their ballpark. So it's just another game we can put in the records, (it's 7-1 ). Noone will admit , this team is going south.
Citi Field Effect

Here is an article about the effect of the different dimensions when comparing Citi Fild to Shea: http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/flb/story?id=4284640 Here is an excerpt on how it has affected David Wright: Wright, though, has also lost the most homers due to the differential between Shea's and Citi Field's dimensions. According to Rybarczyk, six of Wright's batted balls at Citi Field would have cleared the fences at Shea; those plays instead resulted in one single, three doubles and two triples. Not that I have any right to suggest baseball games might play out the same if individual results are changed, but just for fun, if we rerun Wright's numbers awarding him those homers (and alter his other stats accordingly), here's how his 2009 pace might look: Sans homers: 108 R's, 51 2Bs, 7 3Bs, 9 HRs, 90 RBIs, .953 OPSWith homers: 114 R's, 43 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 23 HRs, 103 RBIs, .994 OPS2006-08 per-year average: 108 R's, 41 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 30 HRs, 116 RBIs, .933 OPS What do you guys think?

Very poor preparation for this, very poor offseason when we could have had " a few good men ". Namely, Juan Rivera, Felepe Lopex, Orlando Hudson. wait till Sheff and Cora break down. They weren't expected to play everyday. All these players (FA'S ) cover all except catcher, maybe CF. Cheap investment, could we have been a better team , especially with the recent injuries ?Lack of preparation like this is inexcusable. Can anyone spell spell Alou ?Play 158 every year and not be prepared for fallout ?Go Mets, next year . Build a solid team.

Don't turn Bobby Parnell into another Aaron Heilman.

This team has a history of putting round pegs into square holes. Bobby Parnell has pitched as a starter all the way up through the minors and now, without even giving him the chance to see if he could succeed as a starter, Manuel/Omar turned him into a reliever where he's had mixed success to say the least. It's too late this year (they should have made him a starter when Perez went down - and I'm pretty sure I'm on record as saying that back then) and there's no telling how much they have screwed him up already. You don't take a young kid who has been a starter and throw him into the bullpen just because the team has a need at that particular time. It's so short-sighted and potentially damaging to him both physically and mentally. It takes a long time to re-adjust to being a starter after being converted to a reliever (see Joba) while it takes just two off days to convert a starter into a reliever. Mets management decided that Aaron Heilman would be a reliever even though he had begun to show potential as a starter (threw a complete game 1-hitter) and never gave him that shot again despite a ton of injuries. They kept Heilman in the pen (which he hated) while giving starts to Chan Ho Park, James Baldwin and Jose Lima. I don't want to see Parnell pigeon-holed as a bullpen guy before he gets a legitimate chance as a starter.

Didn't play ML baseball, but did play the game.In the summertime in NY, kids played fast pitch baseball with a spaulding and a stickball bat.Understand at this level and playing talent, it's alot more difficult, a skinny bat, a small ball, etc.....I was 34 years old, and faced the best talented kid I ever saw. His name was Ziggy, he was the best talent I ever seen. He could score 30 in basketball, bowl 200 plus, awesome in baseball and softball. He was talented. Football, he was great.I played fast pitch baseball against him this summer. My age is stated, and I was losing to him 0-4.I threw him the hardest faseball I could throw. He saw me rear back.He creamed it ! He hit it so hard I was demorilized ! If a hardball, it would have went 500 feet ! I had alot of pitches, I learned them while playing this game and knew I couldn't win if I didn't have other pitches.I knew I couldn't throw another hard fastball at him. He would cream it. So, I threw him the knuckler sinker, I threw him the Knunkler curve, I threw him the sinker , I threw him the slider, , the curve... I threw the fasball , but high and away, I got him on the other pitches. This was all at 90 feet, 6 inches. I beat him over the long run. What did he throw ? A fastball in the 90's , maybe a changeup. You know , his arm was hurt that summer by September !Mine didn't. My point is, pitchers today, think they can get by with a couple of pitches. Thats wrong. You need more. Young pitchers coming up should resort to learning a new pitch from a vet. They need to learn how to throw more pitches to fool the batters.Does anyone get this ?Go Mets, lets send a couple of guys down to the ML and see what we can teach these kids.

THIS TEAM DOESN'T HAVE IT

OK, we are Met fans,Alot of questions on how we improve this team. Tough questions these days and times, not easy to make deals. You want Holiday? He'll cost 120m or better next year. How many 100 m players can we have ?You want Peavy or Holiday ? We are talkin alot of $$$.I look back at all the talent we gave away.......Nolan Ryan, Hubby Brooks, Rich Aqularier, Kenny Singleton, Jason Bay, Jeff Reardon, Amos Otis, Kevin Mitchell, Tom Seaver , Jerry Koosman, after there days were numbered on this team, or , you think Tom and Koos should have been dealt?Heath Bell, Bannister, Melvin Mora, Jay Payton, I'm missing some people here, I did a decent job, but there are more.Had we kept them, would we have been a better team? Trades ! Usually bad ones.I say now we quit on this present Met team, in terms of expecting a WS. I say, bring up the kids, NOW, lets see what we got.Go Mets, bring them up. I'd rather see a bunch of kids try, then see this team, a good one , fold so badly, AGAIN !

Now that Beltran is on the D.L. this season looks more and more like a M.A.S.H. episode than ever. There are more Mets on stretchers than in the line-up!
