Alex Rodriguez

Haven't been on this forum in a LONG time and can't find anything on this topic, so here goes: Remember a few years ago, when Steve Phillips, then-Mets GM, turned down the chance to sign A-Rod? He claimed Alex was a "one & 24" guy, who wanted his own exhibition tent, etc. Remember fans howling that Phillips was making a big mistake and holding his feet to the fire over it? So how wrong is he now? Between the steroids, Madonna, prostitutes, a broken marriage, and those narcissistic photos, Alex has definitely separated himself from the rest of the Yankees and made an exhibition of himself far beyond anybody's imagination. If I owned the team and didn't have to deal with the player's union, I'd invoke the morals clause in his contract and fire him. Derek Jeter may have the patience of a saint, but when the next A-Rod scandal arises, even he will have had enough. And if Cynthia has any brains, she'll keep Alex away from their daughters; he's a poor example of a father figure. Certain people owe Steve Phillips an apology.

Has anyone else been completely screwed over by the "relocation process?" I had a Saturday package last year, and requested the same package. Instead, I was stuck with a 12 game midweek package, with absolutely horrible seats (last row in main, last section of left field fair territory. A couple of my friends had the same thing happen to them as well, just wondering if this is happening to everyone with partial plans.

Brett Gardner dives into Center

http://www.prosportspress.com/baseball_news/brett_gardner_dives_into_center.htmlThe Yankees have a hole in center field, and according to reports they’re still interested in filling it with Milwaukee Brewers’ center fielder, Mike Cameron. After having the trade fall through on numerous occasions because of salary issues, the reluctance on the Brewers part to take Japanese flop Kei Igawa, and overall spite from the Brewers toward the Yankees,(they did steal CC Sabathia from them) the Bombers are once again trying to get a deal done offering Nick Swisher. Quite Frankly, I don’t want Mike Cameron anywhere near the New Yankee Stadium. Yes, he hit 25 home runs, and plays good defense, but he also hit a meager .243, and struck out more than a 140 times. It would be a mistake to add Mike Cameron to this line-up. The Yankees have better options to fill the position internally. Brett Gardner is one of the most impressive defensive outfielders in recent Yankee history. The man can literally fly. His willingness to sacrifice his body on top of being one of the fastest men in baseball equates to daily highlight reel catches. Yes, Cameron is a former gold-glove winner, but at these stages of their careers, Gardner has proven to be the superior outfielder. Gardner is also superior on offense. Yes, Cameron hit 25 homeruns, but Gardner’s game is built on what the Yankees need in their line-up. His average is expected to be around the .250-260 mark, but could possibly break out this year after being up-and-down the Yankees system last year. He has shown the ability in the minor leagues, but a .250 average from him at this point in his career is expectable considering all the intangibles he brings to the team. He’s a dynamo on the base paths, and creates better opportunities for players hitting behind him. With his explosive speed, and base-stealing instincts, it is very possible he could put together 50 stolen bases in a complete season. Being the everyday centerfielder also speeds up his development to be a possible replacement for the aging Johnny Damon. He’s an average hitter, but since when do you need .300 hitters on every position to win? The Yankee Dynasty of the late 90s didn’t have great hitters at every position, but they had great situational hitters. Scott Brosius, one of the most clutch hitters on those Yankee teams was only a .257 hitter for his career. In his short career, Gardner has shown that same propensity, having picked up big-hits for the Yankees in his limited time last year. He has shown the ability to play in New York, bringing high effort, intensity, and a desire to win. Some critics bring up the fact that centerfield for the Yankees has always been a premium position, and needs a bigger name than the humble Brett Gardner. Yes, Yankee teams in the past have had great offensive centerfielders, but how many of those teams had a 3rd basemen that hit 50 homeruns. It’s not about what position is producing what. It’s about that production coming together as a whole to create a potent line-up. Brett Gardner is the dynamic presence the Yankees have desperately needed in their line-up for years. They tried on numerous times to acquire a player with his skill-set bringing in aging veterans Johnny Damon, and Kenny Lofton. Not to mention they were defeated in similar fashion in the 2004 ALCS. We all remember how Dave Roberts gave the Red Sox the edge they needed to make that historical comeback. He is exactly what New York needs. Yankee fans and management have first-hand experience. How well have the last 8 years gone for them despite having great, all-star caliber players at every position. Sometimes we dwell to deeply in stats, Alex-Rodriguez being a prime example. It’s not stats, but situational hitting, intangibles, and heart that wins games.http://www.prosportspress.com/baseball_news/brett_gardner_dives_into_center.html

The homeplate umpire gave the Yankees their first run in the first inning by calling a ball to Giambi that was right down the middle of the plate [as the broadcasters remarked], and the first base umpire gave the Yankees a run on balks later on, and still the Yankees lost. What is this world coming to when everyone tries to help the Yankees win, and they still lose?????????

If one of the girls relatives comes by a shoots that bastard...he had it coming to him. Sorry to say, but that's the truth....I am so embarased by Mr. Leyritz's actions that...I would have no problem having the 1996 Yankees hand the 1996 Braves their championship back...since they had no pathetic losers to my knowledge that got drunk and killed innocent helpless people on the road...I know its unfair to all the great Yankee players on that team....but they can all thank Mr. Leyritz and refuse to visit him in jail and let him rot in Hell...Just let you know....Before this incident....Jim Leyritz used to be of my favorite Yankees....now I am embarassed to say I ever rooted for him....You SUCK JAMES LEYRITZ

The Mitchell report was not biased. I was intentionally focused on a limited view. They only could get ex club house attendants from the Mets and Yankees to talk. The problem is that the report is being presented by the media as some nation wide MLB wide investigation that turned up a majority of Yanks and Mets. It wasn't. It's like investigating crime in NYC and then only talking to people in the Bronx and Queens.Unfortunately most people only read the head lines and think they know the complete story.

Matsui

So after reading several articles this morning in the papers and learning the yankees could be shopping Matsui, at first I liked th idea. I was never a fan of Matsui in the OF at all (to me looked lost at times and can't believe he played center in Japan) and loved Damon in left with melky in cf. But won't we sorely miss his offensive production?? I am just looking for other peoples' takes on this, as I am not a big Matsui fan, however he is a solid contributor on offense while going about his business in a quiet manner. Perfect DH, but that creates a log jam. What do you guys think of the yanks shopping matsui? Good idea or bad?

Hank Swallow That Pride For NY

Yes Hank you gave the Twins a Deadline, and you so boldly stook-to-your-guns and lived up to it !!! But! what did you accomplish ? Absolutely nothing. If you think for a minute that the Twins will come crawling back to you like A-Rod did! Don't hold your breath. So what did you accomplish with you standing firm with your deadline? You left the negotiating table with just two players the sox, our arch rivals, and the Twins. And as long as they are alone on that bargaining table, the chances of a deal being made for Santana will be a reality. Now! you just gave the sox a two time Cy Young Award Winner, to be above us (well! until our 'Dynamic Duo" get more major league experience) in starting pitching. When your at a negotiating table with many players to negotiate with, you don't fold your cards in one proposal, pack up and leave !!! Never! you use different combinations of players, like i mentioned Matsui, Damon, our studs in AAA, and whoever else, to convince the Twins that you want them to have a good offer for Santana. Always give your opponent the idea that you want to help them first !! You will win more deals that way, all the time!!!Why be stubborn and have pride ? Be Humble !! it has much more strength then Pride!! A new offer with different players is not going against your 12:00 Midnight take-it-or-leave-it proposal. It voids that first proposal out, because now your offering a New Proposal.Damm it !!! Be creative, we have enough talent and better talent then the sox to offer the Twins besides our "Dynamic Trio" to snag Santana. Now your so-called pride is safe !!! Go Hank ! Go Cashman !! get at that damm table and show your other cards. And Get Santana."What ever the mind of man Believes he can Achieve" This is our way to get Santana. Yes show the Twins we are interested, and offer other combination of good experienced players, and rookies. And live up to your plan in keeping our 'Dynamic Trio"If your going to be the new Caption!! Act like it!! Don't walk away from the table with your Pride! And give up !!!!! The results for never giving up : Santana, Pettitte, Wang, Hughes, Joba, and Kennedy.....The best starting pitching in Baseball = "A World Championship "

A Different Direction To Aquire Santana !!

When that square does not fit into the circle, with the Twins wanting two of our future starters Hughes and Kennedy! And Hank "Thank God" not wanting to part with them. We should not give up on acquiring Santana, as the sox will by continuing their negotiations with the Twins on different proposals. Now that we are considering trading Matsui, and teams have inquired about Damon ! Why not come back at the trading table, and offer a completely different package of players that the Twins really need. A center fielder, and hitting.Damon, Matsui, also a very quality AAA prospect that the Twins wanted, and another AAA quality pitcher. This way we can keep our "Dynamic Trio" to keep in our rotation along with Santana, Pettitte, and 19 game winner Wang !!!This will give us the best starting rotation in the AL, if not all of baseball. And now we can get back to how the Yankees won many WS !! with great starting pitching, and also not put the pressure on allot of innings on out youngsters. We need to swallow our pride, and not let the midnight alternative by Hank stand in our way, to get back in the mix. After all this will be a completely different package, so the midnight stand now is obsolete. If we don't! and allow just the sox to be sitting on the trading table for Santana, then soon they will make the trade, and put us behind the sox in starting rotation, and behind the Tigers in lineup. We need to get back in the trading mix for Santana, before it is too late. Then acquire Rowland (just cash) to play center, move Milky to LF. Now we will have two strong arms, and defence in LF and CF. Giambi and Duncan alternating as DH and First base."When things don't work out make changes! and like Jimmy V Say's !! Don't give up, don't ever give up!!

WS not won on paper

In the last 15 years only 3 teams have won more than one WS. The Yanks, the Marlins and now the Sox have finally won another. A little early to proclam them the new Kings of of AL much less MLB. As I recall we heard the same from the Mets the last 2 years. The Sox have beeen called the best on paper the last 8 years. Six times they most of year only to fall to 2nd near the end (3rd in 2006). Without a WC entry 2007 would be the first WS win. Annointing them team of the decade should probably be postponed until they mange to defend a WS title ONCE. The last time they won a WS in 2004 they followed a WS victory with 2nd (2005) and 3rd place (2006) finishes. Now the 2nd place finisher in the AL East is no longer guaranteed the AL WC. Fortunately the games still have to be played and we know at some point Manny will be Manny

Are we still paying this knucklehead??? I thought he was off the books this coming season, however the impression i got from a daily news article made it sound as though we are still paying him til the end of this season, and that he would come off the books when giambi's contract does, next year. can anyone clear this up for me?

Mattingly follows Torre

December 4, 2007, 2:10 pm Donnie Baseball Emerges as Donnie DodgerBy Jack CurryTags: Don Mattingly, Joe Girardi, Joe Torre, Preston MattinglyJoe Torre, the new manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is not in Nashville at baseball’s winter meetings. But Don Mattingly, the Yankees’ icon who is now the Dodgers’ new batting coach, is here. Not long ago, Mattingly hoped he would have been here as the Yankees’ manager. But that position went to Joe Girardi. Mattingly says he is here to learn as much about his new organization as possible. He is studying videotapes of the Dodgers and videotapes of National League pitchers. Mattingly compared the learning process to how he felt when he returned as a Yankees coach after being out of baseball for several years. When Mattingly, who spent his entire career with the Yankees, was asked if it would feel weird to wear a different uniform, he said: “It doesn’t feel that way right now, not with the way it played out. It happened. I took a shot, and it didn’t work out. Now I’m doing this.”Before Mattingly would agree to the job with the Dodgers, he first asked his son, Preston, a Dodgers’ minor leaguer, to sanction it. Preston scoffed at the question.“He said: ‘Dad, I’ve been dealing with you my whole life. This won’t be any different,’ ” Mattingly recalled.

As you all know by now, my mom and I like to kick back and drink Colt 45's all day since I'm not working these days. One of our favorite topics is the above. Mom says Jeter is better but I strongly disagree since he choked in 2004 vs the Red Sox and was a complete no show last year against the Indians.Reyes has speed and power unlike Jeter who is a punch and judy hitter. In fact Both mom and still think he was nots for not marrying mariah Carry

No more Complaints about Payroll

I never want to hear Cashman talk about how high the payroll is and how we have to grow young players in our own organization to get payroll back to a reasonable level. GIVE ME A BREAK! The Yanks never take a tough stance in negotions with anyone. They just throw buckets of money at folks needlessly, then complain. I'm glad A-Rod is back but why a 10 year deal for $300 million? There was no competition , he crawled back wanting to play here. Surely he wasn't going to turn down 8 years at $225M. Then give him a $15 million bonus when he passes Bonds. Now trade Melky and Hughes for Santana. Santana will make more in one year than the two of them combined in the next five years. Plus now they have to go sign Rowand to play CF --probably for something like $10 million per. Plus since he is a Class A free agent , we give up our first round draft pick next yr.

Why is everone willing to give up the store for Johan Santana?

I just don't understand it. Now I hear the Yankees are ready to give up Cano, Hughes and Melky for Santana. I wouldn't give up that much for him. Do we have another 2nd baseman as good as Cano? Who will play center-field, Johnny Damon? We've seen Hughes pitch and in my mind, he's a keeper. Santana is 29. Prime athletic years. Phil Hughes is 22 with the demeanor of a well seasoned veteran. Andy Petitte is going to retire and I say good riddance. He's hemming and hawing again, just like he did the last time and when he goes, the media will blame it on Cashman and Hank Steinbrenner. We need to keep an eye out for a catcher who can throw out a man at 2nd base and hit at least around 290. Posada will have to be rested more or he'll wind up on the DL. We also are in bad need of a quality first baseman. Someone like Tino Martinez. This is Giambi's last year and I expect him to do well in his contract year, but they should not give him an extension. Above all, I just don't see what good it does to have Santana if he doesn't have the defensive players behind him. The Yankees haven't been losing in the first round of the playoffs each yearof late because they are not hitting, they play terrible defense. Hopefully that will change with the new management.

Yankees Baseball

Hank Steinbrenner’s Yankees know by now what they will do regarding Santana and I’m beginning to think they have studied a few probable scenarios.Due to the enviable position the Yanks are in i.e. a group of talented young pitchers, enough cash and the will to go after the right players makes it less risky to go after Santana whether for a year or multiple years and still be able to remain very competitive for the next few years. The sux had a great team this season but nobody has repeated since the year 2000 for a reason.Let’s trust Hank & Co knows what they are doing. Or let’s look at it this way: If there is a Santana on our future by design there will be a Rowland in CF as well.

This war over Santana is getting way out of hand. It is almost as if the team that gets him, will be a dynasty, and win the WS this year. With a 14-12 record, this don't impress me.Maybe we should re-think our priorities, and keep the three youngsters, as they are the Yankees future, not Santana.
