I can honostly say that the Yankees seem to be in better physical condition then years past under Torre.Girardi is a fitness buff! and this is just what the Yankees need, to avoid injuries, and feel better about themselves.All the running the Yankees did in ST will pay off, as baseball must be at least 50% running. Also some of the regulars have stepted up to show that they will be very intricate in helping the Yankees realize there dream of another WS.It has been much too long, for us Yankee fans to wait eight years! and a change in Managers was just what the doctor ordered. As i always feel that 'If that circle does not fit into that square, then make Bold Changes' With Torre gone, and Girardi in, we have made those bold changes. And the team always immulates the man on top. And Girardi has shown, as Manager of the Marlins, that he is very serious in what he loves to do. Manage.The players who have 'stepped up' or like they say 'Bought their game to another level' are Robinson Cano, Milky, Giambi, Shelley 'The Enforcer' Duncan', Bobby A, Hughes, Joba, and many others. This year the motivation from the youngsters will rub off on the vet's, and there should be no shortage of celebrating in the Yankee dugout, after something positive happens on the field.I believe Duncan and Giambi will be in competition for first base. As Giambi is in his contract year, and he needs to have a steady position on the field, in order to look good in the free agency, at the end of this year. And Duncan wants the first base position, to be his only. Both will bring addittional power to the Yankees lineup, as will Ednsburg from Houston, who just two years ago hit 37 hr's.Also with the players who get on base, such as Damon, Milky, Cano, Jeter, Bobby, and others, with hits and walks, we should have a very productive year in run production.Our biggest question mark seems to be our 'starting pitching' especially with Pettitte's on and off back spasms. We might need to trade or aquire by contract a lefty ace in the market. Such as CC S. from Cleveland, who will be available this year. As long as Girardi stays with Hughes and Kennedy in the rotation, and gives them the chance to succeed, they will both be excellent starting pitches. Wang, seems to be prone from injury, and if he keeps his sinker and slider down, and hits the corners he could be in line to posibly win 20 games. What he missed the past two years in winning 19 each year.Our bull-pen seems to be a step-up from last year, as Farnsworth seems to be more like the pitcher he was with the Braves, under Girardi. For some reason him and Torre were never on the same page, and it showed in his inconsistency, last year. But! he has really 'stepped up' in ST and he could be a force to watch out for.Hawkins! was a gem in Colorado, and in ST he has shown why he will be a stopper this season. He is a pro, and has a strong desire to do well. I like him. Burney, and other relievers have also shown promise in ST. And Rivera is Rivera!!! he has lost nothing, and gained more experience.Now the big question mark? is where to get the most out of Joba Chamberlain !!! I always believed he should start !! But! who am i to overrule the Yankee coaches, and Manager who say he would be better off in our middle relief, like last year, without the pitch count.But! because of the usual injuries, Joba could very easily get the nod to start, sooner then the staff wants. The new Yankee AAA Pitching coach, is also a step up from Guidrey, as he has much more experience and confidence in the Yankee younger pitchers. Where he was even there pitching coach while they were all in AAA.The intangebles needed to win a WS should prevail this year, under the exciting managerial efforts of Girardi. He wants to win, and win bad. And what ever he brings to the Yankees plate, will surely rub off on all the players. As Torre was just too low key, with very little excitment for the game, and was even taped falling asleep on some occassions in the dugout.Also Girardi will fight more agressively for his players, unlike Torre. Which was evident in the Yankee and Tampa brawl, because of Shelley sliding in hard to second. He fought for his player, and backed him 100% what every good manager does. Yes! he was also fined, but he showed the Yankees, that he is for real, and is the man to lead us to our 27th World Series....So ! The Yankees need to learn by many mistakes in 2007, so that this year will be better. The first mistake is to never undermind the Managers decision, in order to play. Last year with Mike Mussina, Jason Giambi, and a few others felt they could play, even though they were recovering from injuries. With Mussina, no matter how many games he got 'shell-shocked' he still insisted to manager Torre, that It was just his mechanics' that were off, and his timing. And he was ready to pitch in his next start in the rotation. He was thinking of himself, and not the team. As his next outing was worse, or as bad as the last one. Also, the Yankees have to give up on Betimet!! why Torre played him so much is beyond me!! he struck out many times with the bases loaded, his average was low, and his fielding was questionable. Then the "Joba Rule" implemented by GM Brian Cashman. This had to be one of the worst decision's of 2007. Why limit a young pitcher, when he had so much more to offer as far as his stamina and strength. Joba wanted to pitch more, and conveyed this to Torre. But! Cashman had to stand firm with his decision, then eventually changed the 'Joba Rule in amount of pitches' slowly. Until they went to him much more into the Playoffs. The benching of the Youngsters who were doing good. To me Shelley Duncan, when he was in his Home Run groove last year, hitting 7-9 Hr's in only 28 at bats, was one of the highlights of 2007. He added also much excitment to the Yankees, with his kid-like motivation, and his excitment for just being a Yankee. When Cano and Milky and Duncan, and even Joba were doing there dug-out celebrations after a Hr, or rbi, they were actually asked to tone it down by! Don Mattingly!!! Another big mistake in 07. You just can't tone down enthusium in the young players. Especially when it rubs off on some of the Yankee vets, who just sat on the bench, and clapped their hands if the team did something on the field positive. Also the lack of Motivation by Joe Torre. It seemed that after the 2000 World Series win, and the illness of Joe's brother, Torre lacked enthusium in the dug-out. In fact with constantly sitting on the bench, during the game, he looked bored!!! and not into the game. In fact a few times the media camera's caught him dozing-off during the games. This will be the opposite this season, as Girardi is a very enthusiastic man, full of energy, and full of love for the Yankees. He said "I always wanted to manage the Yankees, since i was so young".Another problem Torre had, that needs to be changed, is keeping in the pitcher too long, when the other team was hitting him, he was walking too many batters, or giving up too many runs. This was often the case with Mussina! he let Mussina stay in maybe 4-5 more batters then he should have. By then the game was out-of reach, and the Yankees found themselves playing catch-up. Another problem we had, was Torre alternating too many first basemen. Joe did not give Shelley much of a chance to prove he can play First base, by quickly alternating him for Giambi, Betimit, Mein. and on and on. We need an everyday first baseman, and in spring training, i feel the answer will be very obvious!!! This year Girardi will not make the same mistakes over and over, as Manager of the Marlins, he learned very quickly what was wrong, and he made corrections, to make sure those same mistakes did not keep continue.  The old saying is !!!! As there will be no one player that will carry the team, like A-Rod did last year, when the Yankees were in there beginning of the year slump.2- ATTITUDE: The positive attitude with the mixture of veterns and younsters will so very important, The Attitude that the youngsters will really help the Yankees, and the veterns will believe this. The veterns positive attitude will only rub off on the youngsters, so they can feel that they are very much part of the team. And the new attitude that the entire team must have that they will not only win there Division, but win in the Playoffs, and then The World Series. This Attitude must be in every player, not just a few.2-TEAM-WORK: As proven by the last three WS Winners, the Yankees under Girardi, will have more of a TEAM concept, then indivigual accomplisments. When the entire team is all playing as ONE, they will win many more games. That means if one hitter has to bunt, the baserunners over, hit to the opposite field, steal a base, or do something different in order to help the team. If he has recieved no pardon, less a sentence, or just probation for being a Drug Pusher (as he claimed he was not) Then why would he have to reveal Roger Clemens, his buddy and coach??? Did he do it for gaining nothing? In no way !  Then he mentioned he knew that the conversation when Roger called him was taped!! Yet he said he only acted after Roger had that tape played to the media. He said with the mention of his son, in that interview, angered him enough to want to take a more aggressive stand against Roger. Yet! he was the one who constantly mentioned to Roger about his son's illness, not Roger !!! How more of an aggressive stand could he take, holding physical evidence! that was 6-7 years old? Because he didn't trust Roger? What did Roger do to him? to make him feel he could not trust Roger ?, but take him into his home, get aquainted with his family, and treat him with only respect. Not to mention the money he earned coaching Roger. So! that to me, is just evidence he fabricated to have more on Roger, to again keep him out of prison. The Yankees want to give him $4 Million for 2008 and that's it, as they say 'pitchers are injury prone, and because he cannot become a Free Agent until 2011 the Yankees don't want to take the risk I don't see any logic in the Yankees decision, as it appears this will soon go to Arbitration, and then Wang could easily get more then what he wants, four (4) years. And he is acking for 4.7 Million per year.Also the Yankees are using the excuse that in the two games in the playoffs against Cleveland, he had two very bad outings, with his ERA in the double digit's.My contention is this !!! Without Wang's 19 games the last two years, the Yankees would not have even made it to the Playoffs !!! And he was the Starting Pitcher that they depended on for the last actually three years, when they needed a Starting Pitcher to 'step up'So does two bad games, make him not worthy of a four (4) year contract ? No!!! The Yankees have to look at the positive's with Wang !! Not only does he have a devistating sinker, he also reported to Spring Training two weeks earlier (shows how dedicated he is) to work on a chang-up sinker which will add to his four pitch repature. A sinker, low curve ball, slider, and his new chang-up-sinker pitch. He is not a hard thrower like Hughes or Joba, so his chances of getting hurt are less. Then again! the Yankees have no crystal ball, to know who of all the players will get hurt !!! even in Spring Training, and all the Pre-Season games.I feel the Yankees need to sign him to four (4) Years, not only to make him financially stable, but! to show Wang that he is much appreciated by his success.Then with that said: You will see Wang have another very effective year, to add to the Yankees very Young Rotation.In another note!!! I don't know why the Yankees are considering starting Joba, in the bull-pen ??? He was a very effective starting pitcher in AAA, and that is where the Yankees want him to be for the future. The Yankees sometimes don't use there Talent to what will best serve the team. And with Joba being in the Starting Rotation, the Yankees could be looking at another Becket, at least a 17-20 game winner. By the success he had last year.I thought the Yankees had newly aquired Hawkins, for Rivera's set-up man, who has proven himself in the past to be very worthy of that position. They are putting allot of work into Joba to hopefully start the season in the rotation. And it would be great if he even started opening day !!!!!! This will be very interesting, considering that the sox have taken off Jon Lester off the trading table. So i would say the Yankees and Mets would be the front-runners in any trade. Or some other MLB team, could jump into the mix, which will be highly unlikely, due to the large contract Santana is asking for 150 million over six (6) years.Now! about today's topic!!! Girardi is considered by many to be a young player's Manager, in that when he discovers young talent, he will play them, and give them the time needed to adjust from the minor league level to the Majors. With the Marlins in 2006 when he became "Manager of the Year"proves this is true.With the Marlins he had six (6) starters with under a year of experience in the Majors, and his team became a 'breeding ground' for highly talented young players.The reason i'm bringing this up! is because with the direction the Yankees want to go now, with youth!! he is the perfect manager to lead the team. In his first limited season, he was second runner up for the 'Rookie of the Year" with outstanding numbers in batting ave, runs battered in, and even home runs.Then in his second year, he was second in the American League in Batting Ave, batting 340 with over 80+ rbi's and over 20 Hr's.Truly a "Banner Year" for only a second year player.Last year he started off slow, but! so did all the Yankees, then mid season he built up momentum, in still batting over 300 and over 80 rbi's and respectable in Hr's. His defence has improved every year, and so has his confidence. And we all expect Robinson to have a 'Banner Year' in 2008.This is why the Yankees, have went against there policy of financially compensating Robinson, as a young player a 30 Million Dollar Contract for only three year's. This might seem low according to MLB financial compensation, but considering the success he has had in only three years he certialy deserves it !!Robinson adds many Intangebles in the Yankee Line-up. He is a positive force, very friendly, his constant smile is contagious to the other players, and his friendship with his long time friend Milky Cabarra is very obvious on and off the field.
