I just want to comment that this is an excellent post !!! I agree with you 100% Mattingly would have been a clone of Torre, no managerial experience, and not strong in charactor which the Yankees really need, like they now have in Girardi !!!The players would not have respected him as much as they will Girardi! with Girardi winning 'Manager of the Year' in 2006 in the National League, with such an in-experienced team, of many young AAA players. Girardi did such an outstanding job with the young talent, and recieved nothing but praise from his players. His team became a breeding ground' for players to develope so well, they were used for trades.Your right about Mattingly's, off field marriage problems, when his recent ex-wife was arrested for 'public intoxication' on Mattingly's front lawn, citing that he stole her cell phone. Why is Mattingly living in the house, they both shared? hummmm!!!! usually the wife get's the home in most divorces. His off-field problems would have been a distraction, in what the Yankees don't need now, to add on to the Clemens steriod problem.I always endorced Girardi! as he always wanted to manage the Yankees, this is why he turned down three manager positions, before being hired by the Yabkees. I feel Girardi who has such a rigid, and tough work program, and is totally committed to what he does, will be the Manager of the Year in the American League this year!! as he leads the Yankees to there 27th World Championship..... Again an excellent post !!!

I want to answer your dis-like for the Yankees, and your comment in reguard to "that the young pitchers will peter out by the All-Star break" Your comment about the young kids as you call them, is so far from the actual truth in reguard to young pitchers. The reason i'm saying this is because it has been proven over and over again in all sports, that the younger the player, the more stamina and endurance they have. It is the older players who seem to tire out towards the end of the season. In fact on the Indiana College basketball team, there is an 18 year old player Gordan, averaging 18 points a game in his rookie year. Who came right from HS . The other day i watched him play the entire game, in fact even in double overtime. The announcer made a comment that because of his youth, he has no problem playing the entire game, and seldom needs a break. Also in the New York Giants team in winning the Super Bowl, they had 11 rookies, and 5 played the entire game. Two defencive linebacks, who were much quicker, and had more endurance then the older Patriot Offensive ends.Your statement has absolutly no merit!!!! As yes they want to bring the younger pitchers along slower, and possibly have an 100 pitch limit. But! i would guarentee that if either of the three were pitching well into the 7th inning, Girardi will keep him in. And the pitch count has absolutly nothing to do with endurance. It is only to get their pitch-count higher as they adjust to being starters. Seems to me!!! that you are worried that our three "High Profile Youngsters" will do much better then expected. As far as Posada, he will have another 'banner year' as he has his contract in place, and that will not be a concern for him like last year. So he now can consentrate on just playing, and also helping the younger more agressive players. Damon, in LF will not have to reliy on his throwing arm as mcuh as if he was playing CF, where Milky has an excellent throwing arm. Damon is in the perfect position where is throwing arm will not be as big an issue, as when he played CF.As far as your comments about having 7 first baseman!!!! The more the better. Now in spring training, those 7 players will be putting out their all to compete with the others. And Girardi will obviously see who will be the regular 1st baseman, and who will be the alternate. Personally i feel Shelley Duncan will be starting. How could you think for a minute that the Yankees on opening day will have 7 1st baseman on there rooster !!!! obviously you are the one who knows absolutly nothing about baseball. But! stick around, i might teach you a few things hahahahaha.....

TheRipper007: Day #2: Why I hate the Yankees...

Day #2: Why I hate the Yankees -- The fans. There's some guy who thinks that just because the Yankmee's have the same line-up as last year that they'll win this year. Right! This so-called baseball know-it-all thinks that Posada will have the same year as last year. Won't happen. Damon will play left field, but has no arm. The young pitchers will peter out by the All-Star break. A-Rod and Jeter still won't be talking to each other. Then, there are what, 8 or 9 first basemen on the roster?

firejoetorre: I was a supporter of Joe Girardi...

I was a supporter of Joe Girardi getting the managerial job from the beginning. I thought they needed a change and a different personality. I love Don Mattingly, but just thought he would be the same type of manager as Torre. I know a lot of people thought Mattingly should have been the choice and that he was snubbed.I want to know what people think now, in light of all of the family issues Mattingly seems to be facing. He already had to step down from the dodgers position he was originally given, instead taking a lessor role with the team. How on earth did he think he would be able to manage the Yankees (or any other team, for that matter) while going through these family issues. Things just don't brake down over night. He had to have been struggling for some time now.Man, if he were named manager of the yanks instead of girardi, what a tough position for him. He obviously wouldn't have stepped down as manager, but could he have put forth a true 100% effort? I believe the yanks have the best man for manager in girardi, even before all of this played out. But now, knowing all of this, I really think the yanks made the right decision.

There are co/cky fans who root for any team!! winning brings out the fan's co/cki-ness, not losing!!! But! there are different levels of being Coc/ky!! There is the fan, that brags about any team that is winning! they don't have the right! to be coc/ky!!! and there is the weekend fan! who just occasionaly roots only when his team is winning!! which that fan should not be coc/ky also!!! Then there are fans like me, who follow every season, every game, every player, and always believe we will win every game. Now! fans like me, when our Yankees win have a right to be coc/ky !!! It is being rewarded for spending the time and energy following your team thru-out the entire year. I know that i'm bad in my coc/keness posts when it comes to the Yankees beating their arch rivals "the red sox" but! as an every day fan!!! i have that right!!! and whatever team you root for!!!! of course it is not the YANKEES, Then you also have that right!!! as long as your an 'every day fan'So go for it!!! But! don't you feel we should wait until the season at least starts ?????? hahah
