Suffolk County Boys Swimming

At Senior Mets this weekend, several of us in the stands were remarking how stunning it is that NEWSDAY does not cover Suffolk County Boys Swimming, especially considering the excitement following the Olympics. We had some very exciting races at Leagues and at Counties. How about that crazy race between Zach Coleman and Al Catano? Wow. How about the story that SayBayBlue was slated to win Leagues, but didn't. Wasn't reported. How about Al Catano qualifying for Junior Nationals this weekend? Recently NEWSDAY listed winter sports with who was leading what sport and swimming wasn't even included. Bowling was and should have but where was swimming after Sports Illustrated named Michael Phelps athlete of the year?NEWSDAY PLEASE COVER OUR SPORT!

States predictions

March 6,7 will be the date everyone will be thinking about for the next month. I'm interested in any feedback for predictions....Think about it...... who is going to be the dominant swimmer? Any potential surprises? Is there anyone who can beat OJC? Any team that can beat GNS? OJC and the gang look too good to beat.

County Results

County results just came out. I must say the times were very impressive, there were more All-American times than I expected. Both OJC and Cabasino splitting a 20.9 in the 2 free relay and OJC going a 46.0. If Section 8 was a bit deeper, I would say they have of beating Section 5 or 6 for the state title.

As we all have been expressing our ideas and beliefs about what each team will do and whose fast in the county/state. What do you guys think is really going to happen when these meets arrive? So come on, Leave your predictions here...This is how I feel Nassau County Champs will end up:Left to right: 1st, 2nd, 3rd200 medley- GNS, Jericho, LB200 free- Cerra/Spinella/One June - I'm sorry this race is way too close to call200 IM- Samuel Mo, Daniel Mo, and Kevin Ling (Herricks)50 free- Kowalsky, Cabasino, SmithamDiving- I feel that LB's Nick Smith will finally come around and give Wantagh's James O'Neil a run for his money...Smith needs to get LB points to even give them a shot at 3rd place. Smith, O'Neil, Castaldi100 fly- Cerra, Kowalsky, Yang100 free- One June, Cabasino, Adam Chang500 free- Lennon (nobody's going to challenge this kid), Heinemann, Nickey200 free relay- Jericho, LB, Plainview (GNS will not do this relay...take easy points in the 400 relay)100 back- Spinella (County Record Time!), Solomon, Adam Chang100 breast- Samuel Mo, Yalim Okkan, and Didi Peng400 free relay- GNS, Jericho, Bellmore-Merrick

boys season

So Newsday.................boy season has been under way now for almost 1 month. The first 2 weeks of meets are over and nothing....you blew it during girls season.....please do not blow it now. Can you PLEASE switch over to boys season! There are some great teams to look out for this year. Can Long Beach win or will Jericho finally break their streak. Is there another team out there to look for? What about Suffolk. Will HHH be able to win without their top seniors they lost last year?

Long Beach swam great...

I'd like to congratulate Thomas Luchsinger and Jack Wagner on their achievements at the state meet. Both were terrific. I would also like to congratulate the Long Beach team, which finished second overall even though they only had four swimmers and a diver competing. All of their individual competitors made the finals: Timmy Corrigan (3rd place in 100 fly). Kyle Swan (4th place in 50 free), Tim Cabasino (9th place in 100 free), Adam Winerip (20th place in diving) and Matt Weiss swam three great relay legs. They won the 200 free relay in an AAA time of 1:26.8; they got second in the 400 free relay in an AAC time of 3:12.8 and they placed fifth in the medley relay with an AAC time of 1:38.5. They also broke three school records and two county records. This was the culmination of a magical season for Long Beach in which they extended their unbeaten dual meet streak to 52 meets and won their fifth straight county title. Kudos to Coach Woody Davis, Assistant Coach John Skudin and all the dedicated boys of LB. Your parents are very proud.

latest poll question

Great poll question about independant swimmers. But how will they decide what school to swim for? Imagine Nick Cerra on GNS...what a 1/2 punch that would be. Or on Jericho, the one dominant swimmer they were missing. Whose decision would it be?
