Hi All,Well, the old Animal House Blog has been disabled. I had not been there in a couple of weeks or so and was saddened to see that today it is gone....So many memories, so much hope, tears and smiles written and followed....gone....no going back but I know that the contents of the site had been copied/saved by some of TeamVivi...thank doG for that! We will never forget the correspondence, the challenges and the emotion of the Animal House Blog and and we thank Denise F for allowing all of us to hijack her site.... for Vivi. For the animals needing us. But it was for Vivi. And all because of that beautiful whippet girl who still eludes us. Someday....I hope we can continue to meet here from time to time. Would be good to say hello to some old friends. VivaLaVivi

Hello Pam and Mila:)I called and the walk went well with no rain.:)I have to call Bobbi today to see how things went. It was supposedly raining the whole time. Unfortunately at 1 am the day of the walk I was in critical care for an asthma attack. They weere doing a lot of tarring the past week in the neighborhood and coal tar derivitives is one of my more minor triggers. Had an attack the saturday before and was on nebula treatments at home but I guess there was just too much expoxure. Was in 10 days; got home monday afternoon. So I have been trying to put something on my update but I am so sorry to let people down. On the upside I am still here. At least I got to use the pop machine rather than intubation. Each time it gets closer th that.

I guess I was wondering if anyone still hangs around on here. I do miss those old days when there was constant chatter all the time but as the old saying goes "Time Moves On."

Hello I want to thank those who are sponsoring me as well as give you all an an update but spreading the word will help also. I have managed to raise $190.00 so far for Bobbi and the Strays. I know the economy is bad so believe me every little bit helps. Rescues are suffering also. Thanks to the support from people like you, Bobbi and the Strays has been able to rescue animals that need it most. Also many of you are sponsoring other walkers. My three girls are all seniors and with the weather change if it's hot next week I will have to leave them home They are good walkers and can do the mile and a half but not in the heat of the day. So I will take one of the shelter dogs instead.I am looking forward to this event. Bobbi and the strays works really hard at saving lives. I can't think of a better reason than that to sponsor a walker so they can continue to do so. I worked for Bobbi for a time and have volunteered as well as fostered a few cats and pulled 5 dogs out of the Brooklyn ACC. Brownie is my permanent foster pulled last year. She just turned 15. I am adding a few others we the Valley Stream crew have pulled to my photos. Also some photos of saved and adopted out to their forever homes through Bobbi and the Strays. The video on my page shows how dedicated to training and socializing the dogs Bobbi and the Strays staff are.http://www.firstgiving.com/barbarajeanlandspergLooking forward to seeing everyone next week. It should be a bast.Thank youBarbara-Jean aka B-J My girls and I will be participating in the Walk 4 Paws fund raiser for Bobbi And The Strays on May 2, 2009 at Forest Park. Please join us for this worthy cause. In October of 07, the Board of Directors of ACC hired Charlene Pedrolie, a business woman with not a shred of shelter or medical experience to run ACC. The Board has inexplicitly stood by and watched as mass resignations of key personnel and firings of long term, dedicated employees and volunteers have decimated the ACC into the nearly unrecognizable entity it is today. Despite recent ACC press releases claiming that euthanasia is down, the fact is, the ACC is contracted to kill animals and is also responsible for finding homes for them. This conflict of interest has resulted in the dishonest reclassification of countless thousands of animals from adoptable to unadoptable for reasons of sickness and temperament. More often then not sickness overtakes the animals in a matter of days and sometimes hours (Strep Zoo Oubreak) as they wait in unsanitary conditions. Witnesses have watched as Temper Tests are deliberately set up to fail terrified animals. Inexperienced, uncaring and untrained ACC staff bungling has resulted in an avalanche of documentation to the office of Council Member Tony Avella. E-mails and phone calls have outlined the worst cases of accidental death, negligence and abuse. Just last week Mr. Avella announced his office is seeking to obtain all records regarding euthanizations, length of stay for animals brought into ACC, physical examination, as well as records concerning owner notification. This was in response to the case of Angel the Collie who was illegally euthanized a mere 4 hours after admittance into the system despite a 72 hour stray hold mandated by New York City law.A number of ways exist to improve New York City's animal control system.
Guess they jumped the gun --- he didn't veto the bill - he sent it back with amendments ---- if they don't agree to his amendments, then he will veto it. Let's hope they don't like his changes and he vetos it...................Subject: Montana Governor vetoes horse slaughter billDate: Fri, 3 Apr 2009 April 3, 2009 The Honorable Bob BergrenSpeaker of the HouseState CapitolHelena, MT 59620 The Honorable Robert Story, Jr.President of the SenateState CapitolHelena, MT 59620 Dear Speaker Bergren and President Story: In accordance with the power vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Montana, I hereby return with amendments House Bill 418, “AN ACT AUTHORIZING INVESTOR-OWNED EQUINE SLAUGHTER OR PROCESSING FACILITIES; PROHIBITING A COURT FROM GRANTING AN INJUNCTION TO STOP OR DELAY THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN EQUINE SLAUGHTER OR PROCESSING FACILITY BASED ON LEGAL CHALLENGES OR APPEALS OF A PERMIT, LICENSE, CERTIFICATE, OR OTHER APPROVAL ISSUED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS; SETTING BONDING REQUIREMENTS; AND AMENDING SECTIONS 75-1-201, 75-2-104, 75-5-614, 75-5-621, 75-5-641, 81-9-111, 81-9-112, 81-9-115, 81-9-116, 81-9-201, 81-9-229, AND 81-9-230, MCA.” I begin by saying that my proposed amendments do not prevent the licensing and operation of a horse slaughter facility in Montana. My amendments retain those aspects of HB 418 that clarify existing law to ensure that a horse slaughter facility, if licensed to operate in Montana, conforms to Montana’s current laws pertaining to all livestock slaughter facilities. My amendments are focused on eliminating what I believe is the unnecessary and potentially harmful special treatment that would be granted to one particular industry under this bill. Before addressing my specific amendments, I want you to know that, like you, I believe horse owners must be responsible for the health and care of their animals. Like you, I believe it is unacceptable that any horse would be left starving or to die due to neglect. I also believe owners should have access to a legal method to put their horses down as necessary and appropriate -- due to age, infirmity, or other legitimate circumstances. While I understand the value in licensing horse slaughter facilities, it is equally important that any facility approved to operate in Montana comply with this state’s health and environmental laws. Therefore, a person applying to license a horse slaughter facility who wishes to do so in accordance with Montana law has nothing to fear from the amendments I propose. Specifically, my amendments address the limitations imposed upon a person seeking to bring a legal challenge to a license approving a horse slaughter facility. Those limitations are found in sections 1 and 2 of HB 418, which my proposed amendments would strike. I believe sections 1 and 2 of the bill are unnecessary, cast too wide a net, and suffer from potential constitutional infirmities. Section 1 of HB 418 would prohibit a court from enjoining the construction of a horse slaughter facility based on a challenge to a permit or license approving the facility under Montana’s environmental laws. An injunction is a remedy in equity available to litigants to preserve the status quo where a remedy in law would be inadequate. The remedy of injunction is not freely granted. It is my opinion that current statutory standards for the issuance of injunctions already provide sufficient safeguards to ensure the remedy of injunction will only be available to a party under limited and justified circumstances. For example, § 27-19-201, MCA, authorizes a court to grant a preliminary injunction only if it appears the applicant will be successful on the merits, a great or irreparable injury would occur if the activity were allowed to continue, when it appears the adverse party is doing or threatening to do an act in violation of the applicant’s rights, or for other similarly justified equitable reasons. In other words, I believe that the legal standards currently in existence sufficiently safeguard the rights of all parties, and, conversely, that the restriction upon a court’s power to enjoin construction of a facility unnecessarily tips this balance. Section 1 of HB 418 additionally would impose liability for “all financial losses” incurred by the facility as a result of an injunction halting operations of the facility if the person bringing the challenge is ultimately unsuccessful. As a practical matter, and I assume the bill was so designed, this penalty provision would have the effect of chilling any efforts to enjoin the operation of a constructed horse slaughter facility by a person challenging the adequacy of the permit, notwithstanding the real harm that might be caused by the continuing operation of the facility. I am unaware of any equivalent provision in Montana law, and I believe its inclusion in this bill unfairly tips the balance by discouraging a challenger from seeking what would otherwise be a legitimate injunction for the benefit and protection of public health and safety. Again, I believe the current, established legal standards relating to the issuance of injunctions – including the current standards pertaining to an award of costs and damages to persons wrongfully enjoined – are sufficiently stringent and properly balance the competing rights of litigants. I do not believe special rules are necessary or appropriate for this particular industry. Turning to section 2 of HB 418, I am concerned that this mandatory surety bond requirement, established in the bill at the high rate of 20% of the cost to build or operate the facility, and imposed upon any person who challenges a license granted to operate a horse slaughter facility, would effectively deny citizens access to the courts in Montana, in contravention of Article II, section 16 of the Montana Constitution. I am unaware of any other provision in Montana law requiring the posting of a surety bond as a condition to bringing a challenge to the issuance of a permit under Montana’s environmental laws. I also question the language found in subsection (4) of section 2, which authorizes an award of attorney fees and costs on grounds that the challenge was “without merit.” I believe the meaning of that expression is unclear and would, itself, lead to litigation. Current law already provides courts with well-settled authority to sanction parties or their attorneys who file pleadings in court for improper purposes. As with my other concerns, I see no reason to impose new, special, and undefined standards in this bill, applicable to this one industry, where current law adequately provides for sanctions in proper circumstances. In addition to the above amendments, I also propose an amendment to section 12 of the bill. As written, the bill requires “investor-owned” horse slaughter facilities to be licensed pursuant to Montana’s licensing laws. My amendment would require all horse slaughter facilities, whether “investor-owned” or otherwise, to be licensed. The remainder of my amendments are necessary to coordinate with the amendments to strike sections 1 and 2 of the bill. I recognize that HB 418 has stirred the emotions of many. As a current and long-time horse owner, myself, I understand those feelings. However, I have endeavored to make my decisions on the bill based on what I believe is the correct approach from both a policy and a legal perspective. I respectfully ask that you support my proposed amendments to HB 418. Sincerely, BRIAN SCHWEITZERGOVERNOR cc: Legislative Services Division

As you have seen lately - so many states are trying to get slaughterhouses opened on a state by state level --- we have to stop this otherwise every state will be slaughtering our horses.

URGENT - PLEASE HELP! I received this e-mail from my daughter in PA and I'm assuming that's where these two sweet dogs are from. If anyone is interested contact Kelly Wilson at the address below: > From: WILSON, KELLY KELLY.WILSON@gopmg.com> ?> > If anyone knows of anyone interested in adopting 2 dogs pls> let me know.?> ?> > ?> As many of you know, we are moving in just 2 weeks.> Unfortunately, I have still not been able to find a good> home for Cookie and Coco.?> > > ?> We're not able to take our beloved doggies with us and> I've been desperately trying to find a home for both of> them 'together'. They were raised together and pine> without each other. The Lab rescue has already said that> they would> probably separate them, so this is my last resort. > > ?> Recently I tried to take Coco out in my car alone and she> TOTALLY refused to even get into the car without> Cookie.....!!!! She absolutely pulled back on her haunches> until Cookie was by her side. Both doggies are in great> health, have been spayed and have ID chips implanted under> the skin.?> > > ?> Cookie turned 3 December 10th and Coco will be 3 April 1st.> Cookie is my mellow-yellow, and just loves her tummy rubbed.> Coco is adorably funny and lives for her "ball".> She also loves the water..... Cookie loves lots of> attention. Both doggies are loyal and love to walk. They> have been raised with my 3 kids running around all over the> place, and have survived Sammy's constant hugging and> love of 'dress-up', so they are fantastic family> dogs. > > ?> This is by far one of the most difficult decisions I have> ever had to make, but under the circumstances I have no> choice.?> > > ?> Please, please forward these pics to all you know and help> me find a great home for these fabulous doggies. They are> just adorable and it's heartbreaking to let them go. In> a perfect world, I hope that we could find someone local so> that we can still keep in touch and visit them.?> > > ?I pray that someone somewhere can help us keep Cookie and> Coco together, and love them just as much as we do. Thank> you all from the bottom of my heart.? A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Cookie_&_Coco.jpg

Hi Everyone,Yes, today is sad, remembering what happened 3years ago. I'm keeping the faith also, Mila, that we will bring our Canine Girl back home to her family. My thoughts are with Jill and Rick. You found Sniffles, Mila, and others have been found and rescued by this group of animal lovers who came together for one beautiful Whippet. Her miracle will come.

Yes, it has been three years ago this AM that someone at JFK let this little dog loose...what a heartbreaking and tremendously agonizing 3 years it has been for all of us.But, so many animals have been saved during the course of the search for her and many more will be rescued as we continue to pray that someday we will know where Vivi is. This is Vivi's legacy....and it is a wonderful tribute to the beautiful whippet who captured our hearts. With every dog saved, a thank you to Vivi is silently spoken. One day, little one, we will know where you are. It "aint" over. We are Keeping the Faith and it is "VivaLaVivi!!!

Had to check in and say hello. I miss the old Animal House blog, but I guess this will do. I wanted to let everyone know I moved my blog to WordPress because I liked their formats better. Here is the new link (http://tinkerbellsmommakat.wordpress.com). Please visit us often.BTW, a nice young lady needs some votes for her blog (HENIE). I have a post about it on my blog. Feel free to go there and vote for Henie. Be sure and check out her blog also. She is amazing person and photographer. Chow for now! Speaking of Chows, I must tell you I have two partners in crime now. Bo (the cat) knocked a package of crackers off the top of the refrigerator, and Onnie ate them all. She greeted me with the empty wrapper in her mouth, and not a crumb left anywhere.

Hi Everybody!! It's me, Betty. Here is our prayer. Thank you daddy God for keeping us together. Our hearts stand strong in faith for Vivi's safe return. We are counting on you and depending on you with all of our hearts. Bring her out in the open Daddy God and show your soldiers exactly where she is. Lead them and guide them to her. We know she is in the shelter of your love and perfect care. Thank you for keeping her safe and healthy. Thank you for surrounding her with your Holy Angels as they lead her to rescue. Give us your strength and your wisdom. Help your soldiers to hear your voice as you guide them to Vivi. You are our commander in chief. You are our leader and our friend and our Father. Hold all of us in the palm of your hand and draw us ever closer to you with each passing day. Help us to feel your presence and to hear your voice. Help us to accomplish the missions you have sent us out to do. Keep Vivi in the palm of your hand and watch over and protect and prosper all of us as we serve you with love and faithfulness. We praise you!! In Jesus's Name.

Hey all! Trying to stay warm here in MI and it is a losing battle....I have heard from Charlie Sniffles Mom (yesterday)who says he is doing very well. They love him dearly and say he is such a happy fellow now (his happiness can be measured in his excited youthfull prancing and kisses and snuggles). He is healthy and no longer shakes from nervousness. I cannot express how elated I am that he is in such a good home and will never want for anything ever again. He is such a love.We all think of Vivi every single day and pray that someday soon we will hear news about her. And it will come. We are a patient group and will never give up on this lovely little whippet who captured our hearts.

Hi Everyone!Happy New Year. Glad to see more Vivi people coming here. Hi Mila, B-J, Kay, Sue G. I've also been to Kathleen's and Renee's websites which are full of interesting stories and information. How is Sniffles doing in his new home, Mila? Vivi's miracle will come. We are all a persistant bunch and will never give up until we achieve our primary goal that brought us all together. Because of Vivi's story, our family became involved in animal rescue and issues pertaining to their care.
